    I'm still nervous. I like to ham hand my setting, and the softest thing I've set is Garnet. "Know when to quit" resonated with me. I like to see NO gaps.

      I don’t want gaps either! Keep on with the harder stones until you can learn to dial back your force. 😃

    Totally excellent video on setting opals wow I learned a lot from this video. Love how you are so "real" while teaching us makes me feel comfortable like I am right there hanging with you in the studio.

    I do find that good small doublets are easier to set because they’re tougher than pure opals. The resin/quartz backing on a doublet helps to reinforce the opal.

      @JewelryArts  Před 2 lety +1

      True! The top is still fragile but the reinforcement helps. :)

    Great tutorial. I worry about the cardboard though, if the ring gets wet. I have used a small amount of super glue under the stone before setting it that helps cushion it too.

      I know the cardboard seems weird but we have used it for enamels, etc for 30 years and nothing ever happens. :)

      @@bluefernlove In a closed bezel setting we use cardboard to raise it to the right height for setting. :)

    Great tutorial and sharing of info Jeanette. Loving your style. Looking at the bezel on this I'm curious what gauge it is as it looks a little heavier. Thanks!

      So glad you enjoyed it! The bezel is 26 gauge. :)

    I would be worried about the cardboard getting wet.

      You would think that but it doesn't bother it. :)
