2019 Ducati Hypermotard 950 and Hypermotard 950 SP Review

- If you get the impression I was having more fun on the new 2019 Ducati Hypermotard 950 (specifically the new Hypermotard 950 SP) than a person my age should be allowed to have, you’d be exactly right. I felt like with another day or two to work out all the possibilities the addition of the new Bosch six-way inertial measurement unit provides, I could maybe someday learn to ride like the big boys. It’s fantasy, but it’s fun.

Sir John Burns - I was reading your magazine articles in the mid 90's. Same with Jimmy Lewis and Nick Ienatsch. The fact that all 3 of you are still moto - journalists / instructors is fantastic, thank you so much for doing what you do.
Liked because this man can do no wrong. I want him as my cool Uncle
expensive but looks good though.. and nice drifting by Ruben & Xaus at the end
Great content!
Ducati Desert Sled or Hypermotard 950 feels taller?
John Burns is the ultimate CZcams personality
Isn't it 4th gen? 1100 Aircooled era, 821, 939, 950? (Not counting the 796)
821 and 939 are same gen. It is another engine but same bike. 939 was introduced as 1st facelift of 2nd gen. 6 years for a gen, 2 years for each facelift.
How is it that Ducati can make an 1100cc V4 weigh less than a 950 hypermotard.. What did they cheap out on that makes this bike so much heavier in comparison to the rest of their lineup?
I don't think they cheaped out with the 950... they threw a bunch of cash at the 1100.
Lighter engine, lighter wheels, lighter frame.
CC != weight
V4 is twice the price
the V$ is twice the price, not because they needed to make it that expensive to make any money off of it but because they knew people would pay that much for the bike.
@@JK-tu1xx When I interned at Ducati, an employee showed me the total cost of the V4. The cost to make it is $15,000. Which is a lot considering Ducati only sells 50,000 bikes a year so they need the higher profit margin to survive.
We're giving this video a like because John Burns is so likeable! 👍
So if you're 5'8 are you out of the running for these bikes in terms of the seat height?
Anything you can do with suspension adjustments?
i am 5'6 and i ride a 2014 hypermotard... fun bike, but never two feet planted on the ground at stops...
I'm 5'8 and can flat foot one my foot easily on this bike. It's as easy as my CB650f which has a 810mm seat height.
John's quirky comedy stylings
Wow.. Mr Burns don't be so hard on yourself. We still appreciate MO.
And the Hyper is one bonkers machine that rewards the hooligan like nothing else (except maybe a custom suspension MT-09).
Not a very long video for a review.
Price in $ seems fair. Why are these bikes so damn expensive in the Philippines?
Government Tax mate
Is this worth the money?
Has good looks
Well the 939 was worth every penny and seeing as the upgrades included with this model and the barely noticeable price difference.... yup.
Well, from reviews, it seems like a supermoto with a stunt bike engine.
Good bike, however still have high price tag
If mr. Burns says to like the video , you do it
I think they should properly restyle the hypermotard and plant the V4 desmo in it tuned for low torque, the chasis and idea of the hypermotard is still a class of its own but needs a new lease of life imo..
The current twin has all the power the chassis needs and then some. I can lift the tire at fast highway speeds anytime I want, I've never felt like I needed more power.
You are 1,000,000% correct- Its too Fucking HEAVY!!! It feels like all that tubing is packed with Lead !!!! Go on a diet Ducati!! Why I always choose my Husky701SM over my Hyper-939-SP.
*Mr. Xaus
"the engine is all new" wtf is he talking about. Its almost exactly the same engine as last year.
He is right and there is a new piston head that redesigned to deliver more power and meet the strict emission.
Many parts were changed, look up the parts numbers. The 950 is euro 5 ready where the 939 was euro 4. Euro 5 has quite strict noise restrictions too which means the parts have to rattle less as well. It's part of the reason why the 950 went back to an undertail exhaust.
OMG this crazy uncle of a reviewer seems to be a bit clueless about... Everything. Hard to take seriously.
KTM SDR 1290 is all you need
Totally different riding style, feels more like a naked street bike where these feel more like a big supermoto.
@@WilliamStewart1 True. But would a 2013 KTM SMT still give it fits--and ride a pillion better? I'll wait for the next year SMT 790 and compare.
@@tomtraynor5384 I'm interested to see how the proposed 790 SMC will turn out, might be a real winner if they do actually make it.
44 teeth were there at the same time
Yeah and their CZcams vid was actually a review of these bikes - unlike this useless shit.
I never thought I would ever say this. Till now ktm had the crown for being ugly but this definitely beats it.
Its so expensive!
The KTM 950SM still beats this 12 years later lmao
Now, that was a bike!
1990 that’s why I plan on getting the 950SM and the 990 SMR😪🙏🏾 75 degree LC8 V Twin torqueyyyy affff wheelies everywhere lmao that’s what I want
Pretty rare to find one tho
Siv Vinod I saw a 990 SMR on Craigslist for 7,500$ and a 950 Sm for 4500$ lol
@@NudaMan damn. The last time I looked I found 3 total
What the fuck did I just watch??
Hahaha I have ridden many bikes never mentioned about the butt in my life😆😆yo old man stay home and watch TV
That rear end is a crime. It's the ugliest hyper to date.
Rumor has it that if you drop some corn in front of it it will finally transform into a full blown 🐔 and peck at it.
Hideous thing, got a face that only a mother could love.🤢🤮
I love it
That bike should have been cheaper and without electronics, it should be raw bike as the first gen, newer models are for posers
I like the way it's going, eventually you get old enough to appreciate technology and what it brings. You kids can still have fun on the older more affordable models if you so choose.
I got no issue with money, but its styled and advertised as hoon bike at price which is not affordable for younger riders and you definitely don't wanna drop it so in most cases it will be bought to make a statement that you're something that you're actually not
@@themarenda I've never worried about dropping mine, if it happens it happens. I'm not going to let something as mundane as that get in the way of me having fun. Also, in my opinion this bike is very much a "hoonigan" bike. I've gone off truck loading docks, jumped stairs, it will hold a wheelie with your eyes closed for as long as you want, has great balance for bringing the rear end up etc etc. Yes my 690 was easier to do things on, but these will still do everything a full on super will do.
If you buy toys and beat the piss put of them, expect them to break or for you to get hurt. That's the risk involved when having fun. When it gets tires you sell it and buy the new model, rinse, and repeat.
Lacking performance, bloated weight, odd looks (for better or worse), overpriced, all from an unreliable company. Nope.
So you're suggesting I should invest in Polaris stock?
Spectolux not at all haha
