The 1994 Toybiz line got the heroic proportion so locked on like the Blob and Random figures. Hasbro ML has been one big disappointment after another...sigh.
This is my biggest complaint as well. Nowadays only some figures feel like getting. In toybiz days though not all figures looked nice but their proportions sculpts paints and superhero shape is what actually made them so nice. They felt like collectibles nowadays these figures look so cheap. Just occasionally they make nice figures. It's such a shame🥲🥲
@@ayan31_08 I was so looking forward to US Agent, only to be disappointed with the small buck they used. He is even smaller than Cap. Look forward to Avalanche only to be disappointed for the same reason. Look forward to Firelord only to be disappointed with the color being way too orange. At this point, I stop looking forward to the fig I want them to make. I just let them surprise me every now and then, and I will buy the fig. On the bright side, my wallet is thanking me!
@@hasbrosucks6033 yes I agree 100%. I started collecting in 2021 and at that even Hasbro put some effort. But since 2022 I have getting toybiz figures they look like adult collectibles actually. It's like nothing more from hasbro impresses anymore. Whichever impresses are hasbro pulse exclusives. 😐😐 I had wanted to get the retro venom and vhs cyclops but for the prices they are going for it's like "forget about it" 😅😅
Random needed to be a BAF, maybe a retool of strong guy
Strong Guy is way bigger, the proportions on Random are bad, but he’s only supposed to be like 6’1”. Strong Guy is 7”. But they sometimes look so much bigger.
Yeah I honestly disagree with that, strong guy is a giant with overly sized proportions 🤦🏿♂️
@@Hilltopperpete No way he is 6'1, I'm 6'2 and I'm not that huge
I was feeling the same exact way I don't think you should have been a retoo of strong guy because they are shaped differently. But he should have definitely easily should have been a builder figure.
Is this possibly the first Negative Cake rating we’ve ever seen?!
Hasbro's box sets are the epitome of Hasbro. 5 all, or mostly, reuse figures with no accessories, at a slightly higher price point.
Like would it really cost them that much to throw in some alt heads, hands, or any of the billions of overused blast effects that they have lying around?
I remember Random and was intrigued by his figure in this set. I get the feeling that Strife was A-lister in the set and everyone else got the short straw. He should have had at minimum 3-4 accessories, an extra arm, a blast effect, and a different shape-shifted weapon.
Hasbro being lazy at its finest.
Again, thank you anthonyscustoms. You've helped me alot. I'm so glad you're honest about the figures.
Happy to help
I'd be fine with obscure characters if the figures were great. I only binge your Legends review for your insight & Darwin photoshoot now 🤣
I like Random's character design for the same reasons you mentioned. The figure looks like a person doing cos-play.
I like that the title of the video makes it seem like the box set is an assortment of random x men villains, which… yeah.
When you said he looks like those videos on CZcams where there like " i dressed up like a man for a day and this is how people treated me" I lost it🤣 cause the accuracy man and the fact you know about those vids lol. Ya this does not look like the source material at all really oh well Hasbro
it looks so dopey looking 💀
I need a company to get the marvel license and embrace the 90s craziness. The 90s in comics were so cool and wild
I wouldn't mind Todd to get it if he can get over his obsession with only doing variations of main characters and if he can get his guys to iron out some of the articulation and proportions issues like the diaper situation and limb lengths.
Neca needs the license
If the figures keep warming at pegs and the retailers aren't happy, Disney will get the news, and probably the game of Hasbro is over. At this point is the best, they aren't even trying anymore.
Thought this guy looked terrible in photos, let's see what Anthony thinks
That bandanna looks cool on elektra 3 pack
“Accessories none “ 😂😂😂
I think the upper legs, and pelvis are also from the modern Hercules figure. They look too small on that figure as well.
Instead of one fixed gun arm I reckon they should have done the same as they did with retro Sandman. Regular arms and hands with swap out overlays and weapons.
Basically $30 for two tats......I'll pass. Thanks for the video AC. I do not know much about the character, but what I do know is that Toybiz made better action figures 30 years ago.
maybe not thirty, but twenty? most definitely, and anyone who disagrees is kidding themselves. regardless of what you think about the sculpts or the articulation cuts or whatever, the fact of the matter is that each and every one of toybiz's releases was at the very least worth the money when it comes to sculpted details and amount of point. with hasbro that only happens once every few waves, if that.
1994 to 2023. 29 years ago
@@AnthonysCustoms Grade 3 math. Toughest 5 years of my life.
@@chataclysm2112 Thanks for saying that. I missed out on Toybiz but I can say that I still have my Baron Zemo because Hasbro refuses to read a comic that was made before 2015.
Sounds like we have a reverse Tootsie situation here
X factor 71 onward will always stand out as excellent comics and o really was looking forward to getting a Random. The box has not been released in the UK yet, however i did order it and am disappointed by this figure. the Stryfe look good and I look forward to your review of Pretty Boy. the other two are just basic repaints so not expecting much from them. They work for what they are.
for the price of this set i would have expected more, hence why i have really cut back on my order. especially when you look at the Jada Street Fghter Ryu at £23. when we get it in hand it may disapoint but the images seem to show an excellent figure. Hasbro need to wake up and get there house in order.
Bushwacker could change his arms to suit more weapon styles, Random could change both of his arms to be cannons so Hasbro should have at least included another arm or alternate head at least
I pretended to be Random for a day and *this* is how Anthony from AnthonysCustoms treated me!
I used to have that old toybiz figure from 1994. That brought back memories.
I had the 1994 one, so when I saw this coming out I checked the promo pics. They couldn't even make him look good in those, so I figured it'd be a disaster. Hasbro knew people wanted Stryfe so figured they needed to put about 1.5% effort into the other figures in the set.
Honestly, he should've gotten the BAF special treatment like Strong Guy
what a random assortment of reused parts
Thanks for the review, always interesting and insightful even if I don't always agree with everything. For example, I found your lady pretending to be a man bit pretty funny, even though I respecfully disagree. I even kind of like the head except for the lipstick. So for me, overall, the figure isn't so bad, I like the clothing, but could have been better. Lack of accessories is a damn shame. Putting the belt up higher does help a bit.
When I see that guy, I do think Random. Sure, I would have liked chest proportions closer to the comics, but beggars can't be choosers I suppose. So that five-pack I won't get until it's heavily discounted (patience is key), and then if I ever get it, Random will probably go on the X-Factor shelf.
Question of the day's answer. I read all of Random's appearances in the 90's X-Factor comics, and I did like his design back then.
Kinda looks like mrs doubtfire.
Wanted a better Random. I think that I had a trading card of his that I liked as a 90s kid. Was looking forward to this.
As someone who has absolutely no familiarity with this character, I saw the video title and thought Anthony is so fed up with Hasbro's bs that he is using a place holder name just like many of their figures.
You nailed the head description
Random was so dope when he first came on the scene! He was bad ass
I would love to see you go back to custom figs. Seeing you do customs of all these lazy repaints and attempts would be great.
Hey Anthony. Love your reviews, thanks for putting the time in.
Just wondering if you’ve got the DOOM Figma yet?
Still waiting on it
@@AnthonysCustoms me too. Slow shipping! Looking forward to your thoughts when you get it.
Looking at the 5 pack online the only figure they put some effort in was Stryfe. Never heard of these villains so after looking up images the figures don't do them much justice. Vertigo could have gone with the more psychedelic design of orange/green. The rest aren't worth mentioning since they're so basic in design but Hasbro didn't even try to bring them to life. Not worth 100+ dollars in any sense of reality.
Thanks again hasbro for saving our wallets😂
If they're required to reuse a certain amout of parts, what body would you have recommended? What about the Captain Britain body? I know it had issues, but itd have to be better than this?
If they have to reuse the main body, omega red despite it's flaws
I wanted a Random figure but this is not what I wanted....
I loved Random in the 90’s. Still got the original figure
I picked up Darwin for like $10. Figure wise he’s garbage, I have to say he’s pretty fun to pose around. I’ve been leaving him in weird poses in spots around my house to see if my wife notices.
Good stuff
this is what happens when Hasblow keeps laying off their talented employees and keep all the garbage ones
this could be such a good figure... they just half assed it.
I have zero nostalgia for this character ( I actually thought he was a Dark Horse or Valiant character) but I am genuinely sad for you that he is so badly put together. I had both of the ML Hercules figures that used those hips, and sold them off because I couldn't stand how ridiculous they looked on my shelves. At this point, unless ML does a spectacular job on a character I absolutely can't resist, I might not be buying any Legends for the rest of this year. The bottom has truly fallen out of this line.
Wanted a Random, but will be selling this off. With limited collection space, the quality on this guy keeps him from earning a spot.
This was a Random fig in that five pack, HA I made a funny 😂
I was looking forward to Random and yeah this figure just looks so half assed aside from the tattoos
Hasbro really said, "for a $150 figure set, we can't give them two deluxe action figures... give them just one".
#facepalm... with this guy's awesome comic design, how do you fuck it up so bad? Only Hasbro.
This is figure is the exact representation for the phrase “putting lipstick on a pig”.
Comic/Cartoon Random is Tychus from StarCraft while Figure skipped leg day
At first I thought I recognized the Screen cap but then realized I'm thinking about Rogue Prime from Ultraforce. I can't decide if Super Skrull or Omega Red would have been a better base. Probably Omega Red cause he definitely wasn't going to get accessories with Hasbros business plan.
He needed a new mold
Maybe. It looks like Omega Red could have worked to give him a more pronounced V. Insult to injury they have a better jacket vest from the 2 pack Havok
Looks like Random lost a 1,000 pounds
Same here, man. Was looking forward to Random, and I’ve been collecting since series 1. Super disappointing with what they did to him.
I actually really like this figure 🤷🏼♂️ Can’t really judge size on a couple 90s artists, Random was often drawn about this size
He was often not this side. He was this size sometimes.
@@AnthonysCustoms fair enough
The face *does* kinda look like a Drag King
Yes I wanted a Random fig but not so much this mold. Have to accept it thou.
Reminds me of lobo
I was never that big into the character design
The legs look SO weird! What a letdown 😢 excellent review Anthony 👏💯❤️💋
I feel like hasbro could have used the sgt slaughter body it’s still not big enough but I feel like it’s closer
Omega red buck would've suited it 5x better 🤦🏿♂️
Watching your Blob review the other day when you were talking about how he just looks like a regular fat guy I kept wondering if you were going to get to this one. I think this is the worst offender yet as far as looking like a guy in a Halloween costume instead of the source material.
It would have been better to see comparison pics of Random with X-Factor instead of...Darwin?!
why? what's wrong with Darwin? He's the best.
@@AnthonysCustoms ya got me there lol!
This Random is a huge let done only good enough to hide in the back of a shelf
I don't mind reuse of parts but when it hurts the figure its a rip off.I enjoyed the content.cheers.
Pretty much my most wanted figure and yes very disappointed, so skinny, bad proportions, not bulky at all, animated cyclops looks stronger lol, no accessories, really expensive 5 pack, and it just looks horrible (i bought it cause i don't think they will redo him tho)
Remember seeing this and thinking it's way too small for the character design
So disappointing! Especially considering Hasbro might not make another Random figure, so we're stuck with... this
I wanted that 5 pack to be good but all I'm seeing is strife looking good but that's just a new headsculpt
And no sword
holy, why won't they use the Omega Red buck so often? damn, it looks disappointing especially those hips
Nah. Can't say I ever cared for Random, or most of his 90's X-Men brethren, come to that. Not particularly looking forward to the figure, but he was on X-Factor for about five minutes, so he'll go on the shelf at the back of that team, in their resplendently stupid neon yellow uniforms, a tribute to an era with much, much laxer fashion crime ordinances.
Looks like a not so well made random custom figure 😅
Does it scale with 3.3/4 better? 😂😂😂😂😂
No
Jiminy Christmas, that lower body/glute area is absolutely atrocious. 🤦♂️
Cancelled my pre-order. Have to find a major discount to get two nice figures, one bland basic body, and two garbage ones. Vertigo is among the worst translations (cheap repaint) of a comic source to figure ever.
I wanted the five pack solely for Random and Stryfe…then I saw how bad Random is. A five pack with, IMO, just one decent fig, no thanks. Hasbro continues to disappoint.
Q of the Day: I did like Random’s design in the comics, and I would like to have a ML Random, but from the first time I saw the promotional pictures, I didn’t see Random, I saw a disorganized mess. They’re not going to be able to give this box set away after the initial wave of devoted ML/X-Men fans buy it.
Probably true
Just not enough paint anywhere else on the figure for me to see the painted lips as anything other lipstick. Hasbro's been stingy as hell, yet they're making the deliberate choice of spending more money on a paint app that actually makes the figures look worse, especially on Wolverine and here. That there are people who unironically think it looks acceptable really makes me want to say something unacceptable.
mhm
This is a shockingly bad figure just based on basic proportions. It's insulting to us as consumers that someone (probably multiple someones) saw the sculpt at multiple stages in production and OKed it knowing it didn't matter because those of us who collect Marvel Legends are just "marks" to will buy the figures regardless. This is the figure that really angers me because it's soooo glaringly bad at all levels and didn't have to be.
The 1994 version of him was much more better.
This is one of the most aesthetically displeasing figures Hasbro has done. It's more terrible cosplay of a character that really needs some stylizing to drive the point home. A new low for Hasbro when a Toy Biz figure from '94 (which I had and thought was pretty cool) does a better job of matching the source material. If only it scaled with Legends for those who want a Random. At least this isn't a McFarlane release that would suffer further embarrassment by receiving a negative cake rating.
I wanted Random,Pretty Boy and Stryfe but this is just trash. The Marvel Legends design team needs a shakeup. Too much weird, lazy crap is getting released and couple that with the price hikes,it’s no wonder more and more collectors are passing on characters they would’ve bought before.
He desperately needed an angry headsculpt. Oh well 🤷🏾♂️ And his signature plasma blast projectiles. Nah you get ZERO accessories
I wanted a Random for my X factor team,but this ain't it 🤦🏾♂️ FAIL
Darwin evolved another point compared to that dude!
Supporting comment
The head is very bad, the overall proportions are way off (the chest, shoulders, arms and hands should be disproportionately big) the hips and legs are a complete garbage... in fact this is a piece of crap!!! I really liked Random's comic book original character design, I wanted one but this is not him.
Hasbro spewing garbage in the collectors face and charging money for it as usual.
I agree with all your critics Anthony, thanks for the review.
I take it that left arm is a new mold, why the pins still? I know you don't care either way but I have to wonder if Hasbro even cares anymore, my money's on no
Because the elbow and bicep are old molds
The legs look like a barbie doll’s 💀
He should have been a BAF instead of this goofy figure.
You are saying he looks like a lady pretending to be a man. Do you know that he is a teenage boy pretending to be a much taller and older man so he could join his favourite superhero-team?
Do you know we can see what he looks like in the comics so there's no justification for what hasbro did?
@@AnthonysCustoms I didn't expect such a toxic reaction. You said he looks like someone posing as an adult man and I confirm that this char is indeed posing as an adult man.
It's also a shapeshifter who can be bulky or slim.
But the crotch and hip area does not look good. I agree to this point of yours.
Anthony, I have the '94 figure and really wanted to like him..dubious with promo pictures ....could of been a great update like Spiral....half assed🙄. Disappointed.pass.👍✌️
this was disappointing. never ask for a half assed figure... which marvel legends have been sending out for a hire price. naw im good on not getting this pack
It's all bad..
Hasbro is soo dam lazy
1st
That face perhaps looks like the first transgender Marvel Legends lmao
Have they not done that yet? Sheesh. Marvel is slipping.
Disappointing figure.
