I do believe some of Peteâs jokes are way too far. But the comments on his father is definitely a coping mechanism. I had a friend in high school whoâs father committed suicide in their drive way while they were home. He would always make really dark jokes about it and point out the spot every time someone new came over. It was just his way of finding a way through that trauma.
My dad committed suicide @ 15. I was the same way for awhile until I felt like I was healed enough to stop. Sometimes one slips out here and there.
@@zoemack1903 and you had a right to that. I find it more offensive that he's taking issue with how someone's dealing with the trauma of HIS loss. I think the only people who would have a right to discuss their offense to his comment would be his family who are also dealing with the loss.
My dad committed suicide when I was 6 and I have a VERY dark sense of humor. If I didnât joke about it, I would have never actually dealt with the trauma. I feel like anyone who canât understand this has never been through it and shouldnât judge it.

Yes this. I appreciate Sloan, but he doesnât understand living in the dark. If you go through something really traumatic, itâs like the pain tries to obliterate you, and the only way to keep your grasp of reality/sanity is to take on a very dark perspective. I love dark humor and I actually laughed at a joke or two in this video, but I genuinely cannot look past or excuse away the child SA joke. As someone who has been molested their entire life and I now have a child of my own, it was very disturbing and I felt that disturbance to my core.
Right? I know someone close to me who lost their mom a few years ago. She was cremated and they make occasional jokes like how she's going to "make a flurry" or if things are warm "She's already baked."

Just a note - my dad died when I was 6, and I have grown up making a lot of âdead dadâ jokes that make people uncomfortable. Itâs a coping mechanism and while some of the stuff he says is problematic, we shouldnât be judging a single thing he says about his dad, especially if youâve never been through something like that.
I lost my mom to suicide 5 days before my 22nd birthday and I can seriously relate. Making âdarkâ jokes about it is sometimes the only thing that keeps me from crying about it . I donât expect others to understand but I get tired of people judging me for it.

I would like to hear about Peteâs mental health struggles. It might shed more light on his behaviors. Being a therapist, I know that a diagnosis of borderline can certainly explain his humor and behaviors. Most people who have personality disorders have gone through terrible trauma: His substance abuse would also compound his borderline condition. It sounds like Pete needs legitimate help and I hope heâs in active, regular therapy.

When I was 14 I was SA'd, didn't want to talk to police about it because I didn't want to re-live what my uncle did to me. I wanted to try to forget about it, never see him again, and move on with my life. But I was made to talk to police, made to re-live it, and then further insulted when the officer asked what I'd been wearing when it happened. A grown adult in law enforcement asking a barely-teenager a question implies that the victim was asking for it. I believe I called them out on it, or was like "What does that have to do with anything?" They gave some "standard protocol" bs and I was like "No wonder so many girls don't even bother reporting these things if this is how they're treated."
Hopefully things have since changed. That was back in 1997.

So the other day I had a medical emergency. I was fainting over and over. I'm lucky because I was going to the ER anyways for a separate issue. Anyways. All the energy leaving my body at once was a horrible feeling. It was terrible fainting. I've never felt worse. And it makes me think of the poor souls who fainted AND DIED AT THE ASTROWORLD CONCERRT. LIKE this stuff is clearly distracting the media from the lives lost at Astroworld (half of then where Hispanic btw.) And it makes me so mad. I've never experienced anything like that but you do that in the middle of a concert with people squished together like sardines and yea it would have killed me for sure. It was such a terrible feeling. Then people where walking on people who had fainting. It makes since to me how they lost there lives cause of that reason alone. But Travis is known for having people rage and pushing the crown to their limit all cause he doesnt have to be in the middle. He watches to poorer rage from the comfort of the stage looking down at everyone. Goodness I'm so pissed y'all.
Oh me too. When I first heard I was heartbroken, then I was watching footage of what happened and completely freaked out. One of the people caught on video fainting looked exactly like my ex and my heart completely sank. Iâm from New York and I noticed the guy didnât have any tattoos after multiple views so I knew it couldnât be him but just thinking about hearing someone you know die in such a unjust way killed me. Iâve worked in professional theatre, in stage management, so I know how many people on the backend fucked this up and that adds to my fury

Weird because for me from the age of about 13 to 21 i had experianced what i would call "blackouts" like id be doing something and all of a sudden this blackness would sort of cloud my vision, next second id be unconscious. Now whats interesting is that there were varying degrees of how bad it could be, best senerio would be like a mega headrush where you cant see until it passes, (like less then 10 seconds) or worst would be lose of consciousness.
This showes up for me just as suddenly as it stopped, like i altered my life because of it never learned how to drive... and how the op described this feeling of having no energy and the life is being sucked out of you, yeah same.
Im 35 now, it happens once in a great while for me now. Doctors never gave me an answer and i have no idea if i have any heart issues, but i suggest yall look into mitral valve prolapse syndrome jic, and theres another one but i cant rememeber the name rn.
@@mayflower5193 POTS : postural Orthostatic tachycardia can cause fainting , also Dysautonomia which is a hole syndrome. Also a lot of hillness causes low Blood pressure. Thatâs not normal tho. A lot of things can help. Seek advice if anyone experience fainting. Take care

I tend to agree w/ you Sloan. As someone with bpd (like Pete) the trauma you mentioned is NEVER an excuse for damaging actions, at the most an explanation. Seems like comedy is his coping mechanism for really bad things that have happened. You typically are diagnosed with bpd after a lot of childhood trauma but if that becomes an excuse to say toxic things than people like us would never even come close to recovery. Plus it becomes a whole different thing when you're exposing others to your coping mechanisms in a potentially damaging way. This is not to diminish his trauma or write him off as a bad person things arenât just black and white, I cannot imagine being in the public eye with borderline. However that does mean he has to know he's going to be subject of criticism.

Edit: I will say the sort of glossing over of bpd wasnt great just because it plays such a HUGE role in his behavior and would give more insight to people who don't understand it as it's a VERY stigmatized and misunderstood disorder. There's a lot of resources on it but if you do research please look at it form the perspective of someone with bpd not a victim because those sides are very different. I am both so I'd be happy to help if you'd be interested in that. I really hope to help share info to destimatize without enabling the toxic behavior.

She handed me a mason jar of ashes and I naturally gave it a little shake and then asked what it was. Both my partner and his sister said in unison âmy father,â completely dead Pan. Mother in law admonished them, it was actually ashes from their fireplace, but this was a joke they had done to various people for 20 years.
People cope in many ways, and after 20 years death is hard to still be emotional about. Calling Pete disgusting is a reach.
