- Oregon Ducks faced Ohio State Buckeyes in the National College Football Championship in Dallas, TX. Here is a recap of the events on campus and Duck fans' reaction to Oregon's loss.

Now you're sounding like a wimp. Your Ducks were heavily favored. Cardale Jones is not the same as having a healthy Braxton Miller or JT Barrett. Oregon did not make it to the title game with a lack of talent. Quite the opposite. Stop making excuses. Oregon choked (dropped passes). The Buckeyes had 4 turnovers (3 lost fumbles and 1 INT). We were far from perfect. We made the plays when we needed to and Oregon didn't.
one of he best quotes was made during the post game conferences. An Ohio State defensive end said "honestly, I don't know why Mariota won the Heisman, I mean, he is not as good as some of the other QB's we faced this year, he was not difficult to trap & sack & he looked rattled & confused most of the game. We knew we had him because you could see it in his eyes, plus, when he went to the sideline right after we hit him after they scored their first touchdown he screamed at his coach that those guys are all over the place I cant see anything downfield. Once he got rattled we knew the game was ours. Now you wanna talk about who SHOULD have won the Heisman? Well, it should have gone to the best player in America, Zeke Elliott. Who looked Heisman on that field? Mariota or Zeke? Mariota didn't do anything. Nothing. Because he is just not as good as everyone thinks he is. Must be the lack of decent competition out there on the west coast." And, most of America saw that as not so much bellicose blustering, but pretty much truth. Mariota laid a turd.

I told my friend I was watching the game with that it was over after that hit.We both jumped off the couch screaming oooh shit he just got blasted.

To the Oregon Ducks: I am also an Ohio State alum and fan, and I have to say that it was an honor to meet many of your fans and family in Arlington, TX. I have to say that many of us have enjoyed Dallas week with your folks, and it was also pretty cool to even hang out with a few of you. You and your alma mater should be proud of your progress, and we are thankful to have seen such pretty awesome talent. I believe that your program has the ability to continue to do well. You're all a class act.

Lol i will never forget we will always be the first winners of the 2015 national championship playoffs. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES. Even thou we lost to Michigan state this year we still the first winners. We had a bad game that day i think. If we were in the playoffs this year again we would win. We have way better talent than any team in NCAA today and last year.

I'm a Buckeye fan and I want to say I love Ducks fans they are very humble, and don't make excuses and really don't talk a lot of trash. They seem like good people. Good game, hopefully both of our teams will be in it again next year.

Oregon fans shouldn't want a rematch - The 2015 Buckeyes will be faster and more physical than the 2014 Buckeyes, with 4 Heisman hopefuls coming back (Miller, Barrett, Jones, Elliott).
Well we got a rematch in a few weeks and I think we got a good shot at taking them down

As a buckeye fan I have to say Oregon played a GREAT season. Thank you for beating FSU! Although my buckeyes won it all, I am happy to see Oregon do well. Mariota is a class act that deserves great success in the future. I hope to see Oregon next year!

Having twenty different uniforms is a waste of $$$$$$$. If the Nike dude wants to help his alma mater, build a new weightlifting building if they already don't have one. Speed kills, but not if the other team has speed and strength. I like Oregon, but other posters are right in that USC is coming back, and to a lesser extent UCLA. If Arizona improves, the Ducks will be very lucky to even win another Pac 12 title, much less make the playoff.
I agree Tom, that uniform $$$$$$$ needs to go into a new weightlifting facility. Oregon couldn't hang with OSU in the trenches. Same result would have happened if Bama made the title game. Both Bama and OSU have speed and strength.
Robert Bruce Believe it or not, those uniforms play a big part in recruiting. Kids now make their college decisions when they are 16 years old, and to kids that young, the uniforms mean a lot. Both Ohio State DT Adolphus Washington and Oregon WR Dwayne Stanford were close friends in high school in Cincinnati. Washington tried to get his friend, Stanford to go to Ohio State with him as both players were highly recruited and Stanford was being recruited by Ohio State as well. In the end, Stanford chose Oregon over Ohio State. The reasons he gave in interviews mentioned those UNIFORMS. Stanford is the WR that dropped the second dropped pass of the 1st quarter. Stanford is a 6'5", 205 lb. WR....and he redshirted at Oregon. If he had gone to Ohio State, he would be a senior in the upcoming season, never would have redshirted, and would most probably be a top round draft pick at next season's end. Now, all he is known for is being the kid that dropped that wide open pass from Mariota in the National Title game, but looked really sharp doing it. That s what a dozen different combinations of uniforms can do for you. Thank you to Adolphus Washington for being a Buckeye...
maybe uniforms do bring recruits in to some extent. but a reputation as a national title contender, a serious one, does a lot more. nobody likes having their team known as the one the big boys of college football push around like rag dolls except Oregon fans it seems. Oregon fans would rather see an "entertaining" game & lose by getting steamrolled than play a more "boring" type game & doing the steamrolling. Im in Oregon & here the fans are still saying they would rather their team be like it is than be built & play like Ohio State. Like unbeatable Ohio State that steamrolled the Ducks while taking the championship. Buckeyes didn't beat Oregon. They took them to the woodshed & abused them.

Just came across this three years after the fact. That was a great game! To the Oregon fans... I am sorry about all the boastful comments from some people. Its unfortunate that they, most of whom never earned a credit at The Ohio State University, can be so crass. Oregon is a great program and a great school attended by some very kind and intelligent people. They'll be back in it again. Would love to see a rematch.

what's so funny about this is that 99% of Oregon students think it was just bad luck or fate why Ducks lost. They fail to see how much stronger, bigger and just as fast Ohio State is. They fail to see that if these 2 teams played 100 times Ohio State wins it 100 times. Oregon looks like a junior college team instead of a big time program. All of daddy warbucks' money & they still cannot get anywhere close to bringing the national championship trophy to Eugene.

When I was at the 2010 rose bowl they were assholes. Rolling in groups and blowing their duck whistles in people's faces. Who does that to strangers? At halftime I went to piss and came back to beer poured on my seat. Worst experience with a fan base I've ever had. Was so sweet watching Ohio State win that Rose Bowl, but this one was sweeter.

Oregon fans are some of the worst I've seen. Arrogant and full of themselves. They got what they deserved. They will never be national champs because they do not play defense. Chip Kelly is bringing this same brand of football to the NFL with the same results. Its not championship caliber.

TCU lost to Baylor and Baylor lost to Sparty. I'm a Buckeye fan but the Ducks were the toughest of the 4 teams going into the playoffs in my opinion.
Oregon's offense was built on speed but when they came up against OSU's faster,more physical defense then the "tempo" didn't work, Oregon had nothing to fall back on.

Oregon cannot beat teams that have good defense. Oregon fans can brag all they want about the Duck's offense but when it comes down to it, defense wins Championships. This game proves my point. When Ohio State's defense adjusted to Oregon's offense in the 2nd quarter, Oregon was dominated. You can't win national championships with just an offense.
I agree. Especially with those diminutive offensive & defensive lines. Every Buckeye player played better than the ballyhooed Mariota. Mariota is no boss. I'd say Elliott is boss.....or maybe Bosa.....or even Cardale Jones.

And then there's the arrogance of Oregon fans that added additional motivation. The Ducks and their fans got what was coming to them with all their cockiness.
agreed. Meyer did not have to do much in this game to outmaneuver Helfrich. Meyer's work was done long before this day.....he is a master motivator, recruiter. No matter what Helfrich did, Oregon was going to get spanked. Because of how Meyer sets his teams' mindset long before championship games are played. Meyer also did not build his team to have only speed but no strength. Helfrich did. And we all saw how all speed & no strength/size does when they meet on the field. The stronger team rolls over the smaller one. Meyer will continue to win national titles at the rate of about 2-4 per decade as long as he coaches at Ohio State. Another title could likely come next year. And the result under Chip Kelly or Bellotti as Oregon coach would have been the same.

I said it before the game started that Oregon was facing a team that has hands down the best or at least one of the top 5 best programs in the nation and we have just added our 8th national championship even though Oregon had great talent and speed hard work beats that any day and the thing about ohio state is that we replenish our roster that fast for the future but great game go bucks.

Except you no longer have Mariotta. Oregon will be competitive next year but they won't make the playoffs. The PAC 12 is getting better. USC will return to prominence shortly as much as I dislike them. Oregon's window for a title may have closed.
