This is incredible to watch, I was 15 or 16 at the time and absolutely loved all aspects of paintball. I was lucky to have played for a few years back in 2005 - 2007 but just didn’t have the money to continue to play. I started with a Spyder Imagine and eventually got a Smart Parts ION that I ended up trading for a Smart Parts Impulse. I wish I still had all my gear. What amazing times those were. At 31 I would like to get back into it. I remember buying cases of Evil paint for like $80. No clue how things are now.
you can buy the HK Sabre for $109, a HK Speed loader for $30 and a HK tank for also $30 i think. Its a simple cheap full mechanical build with a double trigger and its a good budget gun. Cases go for about $45 in the Columbus OH area
still have all my gear from 09 and its funny when you go to field with all of that gear and the new kids are like "holy shit where did you get all that retro gear hahaha". just never quit playin
I'm in my mid 30's. Got back into paintball about 2 months ago after being away for 20 years. I found a team and played in a tournament a couple weeks ago. I should have never quit. It's so damn fun. Like you, it was too expensive for me as a kid, so I stopped playing.
What a time to be alive and watching this live and other NPPL events on ESPN. Wish paintball had evolved with the times but it hit a wall when US market crashed in 08/09.
I remember watching these videos dreaming of becoming a pro at some point. Wish the sport didn't tank the way it did.

@@dominiclicata7634 This sport has a lot less player today all over the world than before the 2008 crash, it's an expensive hobby and many players can't afford it any more. Look at the rise of airsoft who is cheaper and how paintball is almost dead today.

i played world cup this year, it was pretty good... 75 teams in Division 4 xball alone... tons of teams from cental and south america.
over 200 teams in all the divisions of Xball, like 150 teams in the in the 5 man divisions, plus the 3, 7, 10 man...
you just quit playing.
The heyday of paintball, imo.
Not staged, but only Smart Parts sponsored teams played/were invited. A lot of teams picked up players from non Smart Parts teams and rostered them. The dogs picked up Colt Roberts and Josh Davey for the event.
XSV was there and were a PE team at the time

All you need to do is answer when was the height, when did it start taking a dive, and when did most of the companies started going under. Economics acts as a butterfly effect instead of being blatantly right out in your face as the culprit. To disagree with the 2008 crash is fine, but to offer the alternative that ESPN killed it? Come on
@@illmuskyhunter3313 It's def the 2008 crash who killed the sport world wide, in Europe there was no TV paintball yet the number of fields and players became ridiculously small. Saying ESPN killed paintball is so stupid, I can't understand how you got this idea.
@@damienfavard2971 ummm I've played since the 90s. Here in America paintball try changing every aspect of the sport to try and make it a sport that's watchable on TV and it's never been a sport that bodes well to being on TV. It was never going to be good on TV but they changed every aspect of the game to try and make it good on TV. At the exact same time smart parts sued pretty much every company out for patent infringement and the two things at the same time killed the growth of the sport. That's a lazy excuse to try and say the market crash killed paintball there we're just as many companies out after the market crashed and there were before
