I mean , it really would not work, because that would create a paradox and an alternate timeline, since if he saves his parents in the past, then he would not have a reason to travel to the past to save them in the first place. The only reason the time travel to " save sirius" in the third book /movie works is because they don't actually change anything, everything they do had already happened that way, they just didn't know it was themselves from the future doing it.
