its because theyre more folksy than rocking. rock was way more popular than radio pop and folk pop in the 90s in canada. notwithstanding that situation 5440 are an incredible band with a huge catalog of amazing songs :)
and every time I hear this sing I cry... damn. Even 30+ years and hundreds of listens later... live, radio, video, Spotify, no matter. I think it's that because I have seen all the fuss and it's no big deal... no big deal. Grateful for 54-40.
When I die. I will have a 5440 song picked to play at my funeral. You can be god-damn sure about that. Seen them 4 times. You guys are incredible. Please for god sakes, release a blueray live concert. I'll donate a 100$ to any charity or organization you pick.

Just saw them on Friday night...some douche bag stole their guitars, they have had 5 of 7 returned but had to borrow equipment for the show, they were great. played till 12:15 and the new album sounded better live than recorded...Keep on Walking

Their music is so timeless - I have introduced 5440 to my kids and now they listen as well.

Saw them a few times at Wild Bills in Banff, early 2000's. Always a great time having drinks and chatting with them while they were packing up.

I was driving north to Watertown, NY today and heard "I go Blind" on the radio. I have probably not heard that song by 54-40 on the radio since 1986.
