Hey Rich, audi tech here. There is a contactor in the 12v battery, you need to apply a voltage of 14.2 to 14.4 volts to get the 12v battery to take a charge again
^
@rich rebuilds

You want an intelligent charger
Hi Rich , FYI here are the modules you will most likely need to replace the following
OBD2 diagnostic module
KESSY module (most likely located near the blower fan)
Instrument cluster
HVAC control module.
MIB infotainment module
Every sine LCD module in the car
Power seat control modules
Tailgate module
Blower fan control module
Passenger and driver door control module
Audio amplifier module
.
There are some modules that are water sealed hence not mentioned.
I have extensive experience repairing Audi/Porsche/VW flood vehicles.
I am 100 percent you will get this vehicle up and running with 100 percent of the functions restored because Audi/VW will sell you every piece of that car from their online store unlike Tesla.
You might have to spend close to $5000 on the modules .
Fingers crossed I give you good 1 month and this car will be good as new. Wanna bet on it ?
$5,000 or $50,000? I'm not trying to "troll" or anything like that. I'm legitimately concerned & curious. I have 0% faith in any vehicle built after 2010ish (besides Honda and Toyota).
I WANT to believe these newer....um...things can last or that they are actually serviceable, but knowing the way the automotive industry is moving I don't see that being an even remote reality whatsoever.
@@RothBeyondTheGrave $5,000 total i assume, all the modules arent $1000

🤣😂🤣
The hook tool in the frunk is actually the tool used to pull the charge port doors off if they are stuck closed. I have had to use on a Porsche Taycan when I used to work in house. Also, note that if you remove both port doors they will not open. If only one is removed they will both still function. They have a magnet on the back of them to complete a circuit. They are held on with only 3 metal push clips.
@ʀɪᴄʜ ʀᴇʙᴜɪʟᴅs gtfo scammer
great design. not
The corvette is looking pretty good now isn’t
Taycan tech here. Tool is for removing charge port doors if they get locked closed not trunk release. 12 volt battery should make an audible click when 12 volts are applied to it. If it's a good battery and the contacts closed due low voltage. It show stay on and show voltage. Way off on H.V. battery price, you are looking at 40k plus if you can a new one from Audi. Probably should have stayed away from this one, many of the damaged electronics are component protected and need to be locked to vehicle with Audi/Porsche system testers linked to the manufacturer.
Jesus locked liked technically bricked jeesh that down right brutally stupid
I believe they already have access to VAG ODIS or may be able to register as an independent garage and get access to it and reprogram every single module they replace in the car. That is something you will never be able to do with a Tesla.
Definitely time to call a locksmith to code a new key
German cars in general can be electrical nightmares. Let alone being flooded and ALL electric. You guys have a lot on you’re hands here. Best of luck and I love watching your videos!!
And it's an Audi! Hard 2 get to anything in those cars.
what car is not an electrical nightmare nowadays ? the lada or what ?
Yeah the only thing I really know about Audi is they have electrical problems.
The moment I saw an Audi all electric car I was just laughing. Now I will extract joy from Richard's great humor from pains like this
There really is NO WAY to escape this trunk if the seats are up and the power is dead.
Straight from the E-tron manual...
"Mechanically unlocking the "luggage compartment lid" aka the trunk.
Fold the backseat on the rear bench seat forward, (can only be done from inside the cabin)
REMOVE THE MECHANICAL KEY
Pry the cover off the trunk lid trim panel
Press the lever with the mechanical key in the direction of the arrow to release the trunk."
HOW IS THIS LEGAL? I'll tell you!
"As of September 1, 2001, auto manufacturers were required to equip all new vehicle trunks with a 'glow in the dark' trunk release inside the trunk compartment."
They never said this release had to be a MECHANICAL release. It can be powered by a battery. Which can go dead. And lock your child in there.
*Just EV things*
Thanks for that. I watched that part and was thinking that wasn't legal. Sad when manufacturers choose to obey the letter of the law, not the spirit. Now I'll remember to check the battery before I put the kids in the trunk when I'm babysitting.
Audi really did not think this through, did they?
I guess they assumed that because it'll take a while for the car to fully discharge, it wasn't a risk. Owners could access the boot still via the rear seats. I guess the biggest risk is if there's an accident or fault that cuts off the electronic lock. Then Audi might face a big law suit for the sake of not having a mechanical safety override.
@@dekkerlundquist5938 more like the legislation didn't think it through... probably got lobbied to hell and then put on the floor as a token in consequence to something
@@brolohalflemming7042 There is no guarantee any manufacturer will allow the EV battery to top up the 12v when parked, but even if they do, the 12v can still fail which would prevent anything on the car from working.
you two are absolute goals for comedy, wit, and ingenuity.
The Wu-Tang sweatshirt is amazing, I actually LOL'ed
When Rich asked if he had the key and Stevon handed him a banana! 😆 That shit totally caught me off guard! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My side are hurting! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
1:12 they tried to hide the price but it literally says it there 53% of retail value $110,990. which is $58,824.7
1:15 And it's a Certificate of Destruction 😨
Paying $60K for that is not a smart idea
It’s ok, I pressed Like on the video, that will help pay for it
$37k for a new battery pack. Maybe he can find a donor car!
Hope Rich is making plenty of commission from those ShipStation ads! 😄
I’m extremely excited to see this run
Seems it's going to take a tall hill.
It doesn't run it sits silent, or moves silently
"I shouldn't" said the guy who tried water from the puddle on the floor... lol
The first thing I would check is the Fuse panel/relays. The car may have a shut off circuit when exposed to high water in the cabin of the car.
Right to repair is why I started watching this channel 😁
Shouldn't the first thing to do with a salt water damaged EV be to disconnect and isolate all the batteries, strip down chassis completely, and power wash all harnesses, motors and connectors with purified water to get rid of the salt and then troubleshoot when completely dry?
Step 1) walk away
A fresh water flood car could still have a long life. Salt water flood car? I wouldn't want to own that for even a few months. It will corrode from the inside out.
The thing with so many electronics, even if the car is still working, with time all those modules will eventually rust. Turning it into a Tech lawn ornament.

I like how Rich tasted the salt water/overflowed sewage water from the floorboards. Smart man. Also, you can pop the wipers off if you remove the nut and just press on the lower part that connects to it. you dont need a gear puller or anything. the angle of it when you press on it should pop it right off
Surprise!!!! Cancer!! 😂😂
saltwater and ev vehicles, a match made in heaven .
Porsche generally has the fuse box red post (emergency power pin) connected to a relay - probably the one above the red post. I think the relay allows you to bypass the 12V battery and directly power some modules with your jump box but I have not tested that. Maybe the relay is bad but more likely multiple modules are dead.
4:45 “why would you do that”…. Exactly what everyone watching this video thought simultaneously 😂😂
You can see the enthusiasm drain as the video went on. I've bought a few cars sight unseen but my limit is about $6k.
Thank you uncle Rich for this project ❤️
Rich I always loved how you bring up the pros and cons of owning, repairing and figuring out how ev's are. My favorite part about your videos is the humor and comedic editing
Rich idk if you follow louis rossman but he's become an advocate for right to repair... i think your channel does similar work in a way.
We really need to be pushing for regulations that force manufacturers to build these vehicles in end-user repairable/serviceable ways... i'm concerned of a future where no one can repair their vehicle without taking it to a stealership...
anyway, just rambling, nice video. cheers
Should Rich get Louis on board for the PCB repairs?

the more I see of EVs the more I'm convinced that I'll never drive an EV that I didn't convert myself. Give me a 100% hobbyist built car over any of the production EVs.
Looking at a coupe for an EV conversion. The only thing I need is the drivetrain that works in a chassis that works.

Your ad segues are so good I’m ALMOST tempted to watch through them.
So there is a positive point in the interior fuse box, once that’s powered up you just press the button on the key and the hood opens!! Obviously not so simple on a flood damaged one tho
So, nearly 60.000$ for it and it's a "Certificate of Destruction" title. Yikes.
But I'm excited for this new video series!
I hope the 12V system will power up, that would be a good starting point, and I hope the HV battery and the motor have a better waterproof casing than the Tesla ones, fingers crossed 🤞
This sounds like a horrible idea
I think this car is CLEARLY DOOMED And I would only pay current scrap value but I'm not sure they got many people willing to try to figure out how to recycle the valuable materials
"Certificate of Destruction" title doesn't mean jack. That is only in the state it is issued in. They can take the car to another state and apply for a salvage title and rebuild it.

Dude, after watching the JRE podcast episode about cobalt mining in the Congo, I don't see how anyone could buy an EV after seeing the extent of literal blood, sweat, and tears going into a battery.
Steven was reading a manual manual?!
Going to be near impossible to get this one going again. Even rarer than Teslas, so getting any kind of parts is going to be near impossible.
Except I think Audi sells parts.
The higher voltage range opens a new chapter in the importance of leakage current, condensation, spark gap, insulators, etc. What works at 300V won't work at 500V.

If you can’t get a new battery for it, perhaps you could try building your own hybrid with a generator in the frunk?
