  • Today i visited Collingham Newark and Fardon to take a look at the floods from the River Trent and also had a birds eye view from my drone, to see how devastating the flooding is being cursed by the floods and all the people who are affected who houses are under water, and will take months to get back to normal.

My prayers of hope and peace fill your hearts abundantly. I cannot imagine your heartbreak at this time, I am all the way across the ocean in the US (Virginia) and I only wish I could be there to hold your hands and give you a shoulder to lean or cry upon. I work for a construction company just 4 miles from Newark, we have a flood defence system in place. All the fields and roads are covered with water, the new houses have been in no danger as the flood plain has worked. No politicians or local officials have received any monies. OFWAT and our government have a lot to answer for. Simply passing the drainage design responsibility on to the planning department and the privately owned water utilities is not going to solve anything. Floods occur in all the known locations every other year. All of this is preventable, but requires investment. Should we invest? Yes we should because that is farmland which provides us food to eat.

    • @GrrMeister
      @GrrMeister Před 7 měsíci +1

      EU Directive Extract
      The conclusion with respect to dredging
      operations in relation to the Habitats and
      Birds Directives is: their effects will be
      mainly indirect but not insignificant.
      The effects of this legislation can lead to
      significant delays in project approval and
      also to important increases in costs caused
      by extended needs for impact assessment.
      Of particular concern to the industry is the
      fact that impact assessment for ecological
      effects in marine waters may be very
      difficult, since the environment is so
      dynamic, and thus lead to further delays
      in the approval process.

    • @dazt5831
      @dazt5831 Před 7 měsíci +1

      most rivers actually clear themselves during floods, the issue with dredging is the complete destruction of the river habitat specifically for fish and the extreme cost of not only dredging but also transporting the dredged sediment to landfill, A great example of why dredging does not work would be the mississippi river in the US where dredging occurs almost non stop everyday and has done for over 50 years (including flood defence walls and concrete channeling) but that river still very easily floods and they have the advantage of being able to dredge using barges which would not work in our rivers (too narrow and not deep enough) and evidence from those dredging operations shows a significant impact to all species using those stretches of the river from fish to plants to birds and it also causes significant sediment pollution during dredging which releases more sediment downstream, the easiest way to prevent property flooding is to simply not build on floodplains

  • @michaeld5888

    So much of England is a flood plain so expect more as the chronic overcrowding on this island increases without control and cheap housing is thrown up at minimum cost. I doubt if there is much money left in the national kitty to do anything about improving the drainage so expect more of it. In 1875 where that mark is probably they did not have much of anything downstairs let alone carpets, expensive electric utilities or chipboard furniture so not such a problem then. Just swept the mud out and carried on with life unseen and unnoticed unlike now.

      @SpencerHartley Před 7 měsíci

      @@colingathercole391 River maintenance occurs naturally when habitat isn't built on, however many groups like the environment agency are not receiving the money as higher ups within the group are giving the cashflow to shareholders. Water companies are also in the same issue, but because they refuse to pay for sewage treatment, they dump it into the river which then fills the river up with crap and destroys habitat that maintains the river. This is what happens when the government gives the private sector control.

    Re 1795 flood mark.
    Certainly severe floods have happened in the past but they were rare. A once in a hundred year event happens once in a hundred years. When your "once in a hundred years event " happens every year 🙃 or every couple of years, you have climate change.

      The Trent has always flooded regularly, with records going back to the 12th century. People who buy houses with a river view, can expect to be flooded out more than once in their lifetime. The river has completely changed its course in the past, owing to flooding.

      No that's wrong. Floods have always happened and the reclaimed land for housing has made things worse.This is nothing to do with man burning fossil fuels .It is bad use and husbandry of land mainly

    You're questioning whether these floods results from global warming? But you're out there supposedly commiserating with the victims whilst in reality you're looking for clicks. Nice one pal.
