The idea of a Metro Manila subway was first proposed in 1973. Fast forward 45 years, construction finally began in January 2019. This 35-kilometer line, connecting Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City, will cut travel time to just 40 minutes and accommodate up to 1.5 million passengers daily.
The project, part of the Duterte Administration’s Build, Build, Build program, had its groundbreaking ceremony in Valenzuela City in February 2019. Phase one is expected to be completed by 2025, with the entire project finishing by July 2027.
The Metro Manila Subway features disaster-resilient strategies and is financed through a Japan International Cooperation Agency loan. Upon completion, it will significantly reduce travel time, cut traffic congestion, and revolutionize transportation in Metro Manila.

CORRECTION: This project, including the loan from Japan, was initiated and was already in the initial phase of preparation during the administration of PNoy. It was during the time of Duterte when the project was formally inaugurated, and now the actual physical works are being done under BBM. Lets give credit to every president involved. Mega projects like this take several administrations before it can be finished. Do not politicize this. Again, give credit to everyone who was involved in this project.

Our leaders must prioritize the well-being of their constituents; otherwise, the country will stagnate. Education is an important aspect in promoting national growth, and our government must invest extensively in educating the public. We need more scientists, engineers, doctors, and other professionals to help our country move further. Unfortunately, we are losing outstanding persons on a weekly basis because they are not compensated adequately to stay and work in the country. This brain drain causes a huge loss of potential and impedes our advancement.
Countries such as South Korea and Singapore have demonstrated how investing in education and retaining people can result in rapid economic growth and technological advancement. If our leaders do not prioritize this, we will continue to fall behind on a global scale. It is critical that we foster an atmosphere in which our greatest minds may stay and contribute to national growth. This involves offering competitive compensation, better working conditions, and possibilities for professional development. Only by doing so can we hope to secure a bright and innovative future for our country.
