Gorgeous and so silky smooth, a performance with grace and subtle power. The more I study Stravinsky, the more amazed I am by his talent. Thank you much for posting.
At last! At last I've fallen in love with this piece! Thank you Mr Harding and Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France: I heard the phrasing and the general sense of the music so much more here than when I listened to it - quite a few times - years ago. ❤
One of my favorite ballets of all time, from a horribly overlooked musical period of Stravinsky's career. Great that they got to play together in the middle of this pandemic, unless this was from a prior time.
I agree with all the other commenters - THIS is the performance to beat! Many thanks to the players and Maestro Harding. Radio France Philharmonic, please visit the USA!
I only recently discovered Harding with his 2019 Europa Konzert. His style is remarkably unique. His Wagner so completely without pathos and yet enormously powerful. His Debussy crystal clear yet as if from another world. And this performance is wonderful, too. Even if neoclassicism is not my favorite style.
It is a romanticized version of the piece, apparently a result from the idea that 'expressive' can only be 'romantic'- i.e. 19C style. But this piece is classicist and expressive as well, only in a different way.
@@notaire2 I should have said he is the most well known neo classicist, indeed not the inventor. His neo classic period started in 1920, and he began Apollo 7 years later. Stravinsky has always been considered an anti-romantic composer. Wiki: Appolo is a neo-classical ballet. Yes, I have heard Apollo played in a romantic way,. and it sounded really wrong.
@@renep9968 Thanks for your detailed reply. But I don't think it totally wrong to play Apollo in a romantic way. This work still has an element of romanticism, which Stravinsky couldn't totally get rid of.
@@gorankatic40000bc Thanks for your detailed and suggestive reply. I will search the combination of Stravinsky and Columbia S.O. conducted by himself on CZcams, when I have enough time.
Sloppy performance - the punctuation is played carelessly. If anything, all Stravinsky scores demand very clear rhythmic articulation. Here, the approach is romantic, instead of classical as clearly intended. For the rest the playing is beautiful - just not the right approach. This is the responsibility of the conductor, not of the players who do a really good job.

One of the best interpretations of the Apollon heard in recent years...👏

Thank you very much for posting this exquisitely performed piece. So soothing in these turbulent times.

Waouh! I've never heard this before! This is Stravinsky??? Incroyable!

Primo violino eccellente!! BRAVA!!!!
Great conductor

Its not "spätromantisch", late romantic. This is neo classicism, a style invented by Stravinsky.
@@renep9968 This work belongs to something between late-romanticism and neo-classicism. Besides, Stravinsky is not an inventor of neo-classic style.

Lancinante
👏👏👏
Real Music. But this piece is SO DIFFERENT TO OTHER BY Stravinsky .
If you liked apollo you may well enjoy Stravinsky's ballet Orpheus which has the same classical beauty.
Yes, because it is played as a 19C piece.
18.15 j'ai eu peur pour lui lmao,bref c'est beau !

interpretation: too romantic for me

There's always one critic in the comment section no matter how great the performance is I've noticed.
