    I've seen it and enjoyed it. It's hard to get younger generations to watch a western movie. I'm pretty sure that the viewership for Yellowstone are probably older. But even in the theaters I'm a 55 year old who grew up watching spaghetti westerns with my father and grandfather. The other issue is that for me AMC theaters in my area had extremely limited time slots for it which made it much harder to watch especially for a 3 hour movie.

    I saw the film and there were many aspects I loved such as cinematography, Costner's character the major action scene, but there were many parts I didn't like, the wagon train and general structure of the film. I'm a big fan of westerns and a big fan of Costner but was slightly disappointed in this one. Currently it is ranked 7th out of the 13 2024 releases I've seen this year, but I'm still on board for part 2 as we haven't seen the train shot from the trailer yet and every movie is better when it has a train.

    I saw this story Horizon on the big screen and call it a masterpiece!!! It brilliantly introduces all of the characters and sets out the storyline of each of their lives so much so that in the end it leaves you with the anticipation of what is to come in the next installment. Mr. Costner did a fine job at capturing, in the very beginning, the harshness of the times and how it had a very profound and in some cases fatal outcome of the lives of those characters/people who as I saw it, had very similar struggles eventhough they came from different backgrounds and cultures. Horizon had such an impact on me that I went back to see it again and can say that the second time around I found that I absorbed more of what was taking place with each individual character. Where I see Mr. Cosnter's brilliance is in the subtleties throught the story such as the young son who made the brave decision to stay by his father's side in a brutal, fatal battle which displays "courage" and "loyalty" someting we do not see much of today, or what will be the ultimate effect on another young man who witnessed such brutality at his young age when he and his family and other's were surprised by a brutal attack on them, he escaped but I am curious to see how this will have a long term effect on this young man-will he make the decision to grow to be honorable or take a turn for the worst? And not to mention all of the various, intriguing lives of the women, some very strong and some you immediately know will be forced to grow stronger in order to survive the times they are in not only as women but as protectors of their lives, their families and loved one. Hope people take the time to see this, its as if you are intrigued by a fine piece of art, that when you stand in front of it and view it, you began to put all of the pieces together in your mind of its brilliance!

    This might be like Dune part 1 that not everyone was a fan of and not everyone was all on board, but it gave people the exposure to the franchise when it went on max and when Part 2 came out it blew everything out of the water. It’s not super uncommon to see the first installment of a franchise not do well and the subsequent parts explode in the box office. Where I think I would be more concerned is the release date. Give it some time on a streamer so it can marinade and I think it’s subsequent parts will make some money.

It slows down just enough to draw some emotional buildup inside but you won’t be blubbering. The action is good, because t it’s the realism of circumstance that shines through, how people might act or react to these situations.

  • @intothezombieapocalypse
    @intothezombieapocalypse Před 17 dny +3

    I had this arguement when the movie was released. I knew it was going to digital. People had no clue what this movie is about so obviously it wasnt going to do well in theaters as these types of movies, unless its a Christopher Nolan movie, do not do well at the box office. So with people not knowing what a new franchise is about that isnt a huge cgi buffet or marvel movie, no one is going to go see it. I told my friend that was the problem and since it flopped at the box office, they will put this movie on digital as marketing so that people will watch the movie at home in hopes of getting people to theaters for the sequel. The only thing bad that i have heard about the movie is that the 4 stories do not merge at the end and line up and people were mad about that. But this is a world builder film that sets up a quadology. There will be more overlap in those 4 stories in the sequel which is why they were made back to back, which explains the $100 million budget for both films. Which is very ambitious for not just any franchise in any genre.... but a western. These types of movies dont do well at the box office these days, which is why they are rarely made for the big screen.

Kevin originally signed on to 2 seasons w/ a possible 3rd. he gave the fans more than what he originally agreed to. He said he waited and waited and waited for a script from Taylor all the while pushing back all his other projects and what people don't seem to understand is he employes a lot of people and those people are waiting around like Kevin not making money... Kevin told Taylor hey I need a script or I gotta go. Taylor didn't have a script so he left. But what got me was reading some of the reviews, and realizeing that he made this almost like a mini series. There were three different story lines, and no conclusion. I think had he released it on home video first, and then the second one out in the theater, that might have worked better, which I think that the above gentleman is suggesting. I have 3 things to say...
    1) WTF... Wasn't I just listening to another CZcams video stating that movies do better when they hit theaters before going to streaming, and now people are saying that this should have been made for streaming? Pick one.
    2) I thought that this was a great beginning to a movie franchise that is going to be probably the last great epic western. Would it have been better received as a miniseries? In answer, please refer to comment number 1.
    3) If it's true that modern audiences don't like westerns, then I am deeply saddened to think that we may not get more westerns in the future.

    • @daveclark8337

      For starters, you have to Make a Good Movie. That was Kevin's first issue ....of many.

    • @VariantShades
      @VariantShades Před 16 dny

      1) It's a 3 hour western film that's R rated. It was never going to do well at the box office. There's a reason a lot of the studios passed on it. And the whole strategy of releasing Part 2 so soon is very bizarre to me. Because Part 2 is certainly going to do even worse at the box office now. And the fact they're releasing Part 1 on streaming so soon, so people would go to the theatres to watch part 2 - this is only going to undermine the box office of Part I even more. It's apparent that they really didn't think this through, I mean maybe it should have been released on streaming then. Or maybe make it into a limited TV series. But in my opinion, they should have waited releasing Part 2. It's possible that Part 1 could've had legs and do decently in the long run and through word of mouth, but they've pretty much undermined any chance of that happening now.
      2) They've should have made it into a miniseries with a manageable budget. Of course it wouldn't have been as cinamatic, but the Yellowstone prequels are very good. So it can be done on TV.
      3) This is nothing new. I find it amusing on social media that fans of the film and even one of the actors are blaming the tik tok generation. I'm sorry to say this, Westerns have always been a niche market for several decades. Some westerns have done well at the box office, but these movies also had much smaller budgets so they were able to make a profit.
