    Now that Epiphone, Squier, and other larger brands are boosting prices to be closer to their expensive brands and models, companies like Firefly, Harley Benton, Sire, Cort, etc..will dominate in the affordable guitar market.

      I bought a $400 Cort, Honestly an absolute shred machine, action is through the floor with no string rattle, FR holds super well and the EMG pickups give you that compressed metal sound.
      Genuinely unbelievable for the price, better than any Squire or Epiphone i've owned or played.

      Yeah, it's crazy that Epiphone is selling many of their guitars for like $800! I bought my full gloss Gibson lp special brand new for $700 about 10 years ago. Inflation is horrible but these companies can do a lot better. They don't even give you rosewood fretboards. Got a 20 year old epi g310 that blows away modern epis afa quality is concerned.

    I have one of these. I got mine when they did the run last year and they sell out really quickly. The only problem I had was without ordered the Sunburst and got a white one like the one you have. when I complained they offered to take it back because he didn’t have any more sunburst so I kept it, I’d rather have a white one, then not have one at all. That’s it the finish is impeccable.

    I picked one of those up awhile back. LOVE IT! I found though that to restring it with the stock tuners I had to order Stringjoy strings because nothing I could find on the rack at any of my local music shops the low E won't reach to the tuning machine. I put Hipshot locking tuners on mine, they worked perfectly with the Ernie Ball baritone string set I can buy off the wall locally.

    If you want B-standard tuning on the cheap, put 62-13 strings on a 25.5" Fender scale guitar. You have to file the nut slots a little, but otherwise it sets up normally. Intonates perfectly. String tension is comparable to a set of 10's.

At risk of lowering my chances of snagging one, they said at the start of February that they would be dropping more at the end of the month (which didn’t actually happen). The question is how is it possible that this guitar is making Firefly a profit? I have no idea what their business model is, nor how they source their materials, nor how they manufacture these… the hotdog stainless steel frets and the binding work is not easy to do… especially not on mass production unless they’re using some new technology or something… how is it this cheap price wise?

  • @DirtyDirkDiggler
    @DirtyDirkDiggler Před 2 měsíci

    I would be VERY WARY if you are someone looking to potentially buy this guitar. You simply cannot get a high quality guitar at that price - not even in the ballpark, let alone with “Stainless steel frets”. Sure, it might sound fine the first couple weeks, but over time-cheaply made guitars are just what they are. I remember buying into the hype surrounding the J Mascis Jazzmaster. Everyone was hyping it up as this super affordable JM that sounds and plays like something well above its price range-turns out the thing plays just like a $350 guitar would. There’s nothing wrong with playing a cheap guitar (that’s how I started, as a lot of people do) but if you’re expecting something higher end out of a $169 you’re going to be severely disappointed.

    • @NorseLax07
      @NorseLax07 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Sorry, but I completely disagree with you. I don’t know when you got your J Mascis, but my 2017 model is rock solid and my go-to guitar, and I have a lot of them of varying qualities and price points. Sure, cheap guitars usually use cheap parts, but as long as it isn’t made of plywood, which the Firefly, Harley Benton, etc certainly are not - with a proper set up and maybe upgrading the tuning keys you can have something that feels, and sounds good to play. These videos aren’t geared towards people who can afford MIA instruments. They are for guitar enthusiasts who want to get the most for their hard earned money and enjoy playing music.

The first 2 were perfect the last one I need to get around to 2 high frets but has great sounding "Filtertrons " good "bigsby" good tuners. If your not a luthier, like mysel, could be problem but heard many folks say they had no problem returning...of course they have short runs so may be a problem. Guilt free? Well... Maybe there's another facet of that which we should consider, meaning the guilt of a First-world consumer reaping the benefit of economic differences between our economy and the Third-world economy where these instruments originated. Is anyone laboring under the illusion that the luthiers in these Chinese factories are earning a good living? Or that these factory owners are in the least bit concerned about environmental impact? How about the whole trade with China factor, not supporting US workers? True, it's just another commodity like so much else we purchase from overseas, but any of those factors and more should give us pause, or thanks perhaps, when we consider the actual costs of these cheap products. Hey, good for us and all, but let's not fool ourselves that it is anything but dumb luck that we live in a stronger economy and we get to take advantage of that situation. What has happened with the guitar market in recent years would absolutely dumbfound a time traveller or coma patient who had awakened from a 30 year slumber. These guitars are breaking the mold: cheap AND good, which was at one time against all logic. All that being said, I've gotta say you've made an impressive video and kept the tone very chill, so kudos.

    • @valueofnothing2487
      @valueofnothing2487 Před 2 měsíci +3

      Yes people should think about if you really want to support Chinese slavery at the expense of perhaps our own people's jobs. And that's true in anything today.
      At least try to buy Indonesian. Japanese if you can.
      The question is What is the price we are all going to pay in the future if China owns all our manufacturing?
      What will it look like?

  • @Markleford
    @Markleford Před 2 měsíci +3

    Well, given that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, offshore factories are potentially more exploitative than the USA, and the global manufacturing system (along with subsequent mass shipping) causes environmental problems... so maybe just a *little* bit of guilt? 😹
    But no more than consumer electronics or cheap household goods or corporate farming -- That [container] ship has already sailed!
    Love me some cheap guitars. People who say "Why not just buy a quality expensive instrument?" don't account for the ability to buy many affordable guitars in different styles to help figure out what you like!

      China is officially called the People's Republic of China (PRC). It is ruled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) which is described as a one-party authoritarian state or dictatorship. It has likely the worldwide heaviest restrictions on freedom of the press, reproductive rights, free formation of social organizations, freedom of religion, and limited access to the internet (except for their cyber-warfare department). They have 1.4 billion mouths to feed on a daily basis and the world's largest standing army. Everyone there is happy and loves their great leader. No slave labor exists in the PRC, either real or imagined (according to the Party). You might want to check out "China" in Wikipedia and give extra attention to the "Sociopolitical issues and human rights" tab.

      So I get what you are saying. I have multiple custom guitars that play amazing! I ordered a firefly ffst and got it last week. Tbh it should be illegal for me to like it as much as I do. Surprisingly plays great! And the qc on it was great as well. I have no complaints at all.
      Btw I got it so I could have a guitar I could beat on and not have to worry about it.

      @@deaneriley awesome I’m not against lower price guitars I’m in my sixty been playing sine I was 8 just thru the years I have filtered down to the guitars I mentioned and they just became my keepers some of my guitars I have owned for 40 years it’s awesome to here there tone change without any mods. Anything that keeps you strumming is a beautiful . Side note I own some very expensive USA fenders and Gibson guitars that kinda suck never played that well at all.

    Its all cool...but: bone nut? bone is sooo variable. Its usually cow, but might be dog (being from China)...anyway one animal has good health and the bone is uniform..another has bad nutrition...so variable.

    You gotta stop with the audio garbage man. It's nauseating with the left right panning
