      Yup. Dangerously incompetent. Which just makes them accidently make everything worse. Not to mention that they are quite naive to think that teaching those that have known nothing but violent survival how to better themselves couldn't go wrong. The game wasn’t trying to frame the fireflies as benevolent. You were seeing things from Abby’s point of view. The same way you don’t see Joel as the murderous raider he was…because you played with him and Ellie in the first game. Joel was not a hero, the fireflies were not heroes, death creates a constant cycle of death. That is what these games are trying to say.

    • @joshrosario1269
      @joshrosario1269 Před 13 dny +3

      @@seaberry11except we did see Joel as a murderous raider even in his point of view, we start the game with him being a odd jobs man doing criminal smuggling work, his own brother admonishes his past actions during the earlier days of the apocalypse, and even he views his actions as abhorrent albeit necessary for survival. Abby was a wilfully ignorant idiot that was willing to kill people who killed in self defense, especially considering the fact that the fireflies already tried like 8 different times with 8 different immune people and just killed them all without getting a cure, which is what was gonna happen with Ellie. At least joel kills out of necessity, in our playthrough and in the way they talk about the past, everything he did was for survival, abby had nothing to gain, there was no positive in what she did, just negative, what I'm trying to say is the second game sucked

    • @seaberry11
      @seaberry11 Před 13 dny

      @@joshrosario1269 no, Abby was a child. She didn’t know the inner workings of the Fireflies, she just knew Joel killed her dad. Y’all only think the game sucks because she killed Joel. Which storytelling wise was the only logical conclusion after the end of part one. The story is great, the only problem was the way they setup the telling of the story. They should’ve did a back and forth between Ellie and Abby’s levels to tell the story. It would’ve given it a better cat and mouse feel. Saying Abby was “willfully ignorant” is weird. A child whose father was murdered and is looking for revenge…she doesn’t know, or frankly should care why Joel killed her father. It’s funny how you could make excuses for the way Joel lived because “survival” but call Abby ignorant. Joel had a place he could safely stay, he didn’t have to murder people, he could’ve went with his brother…who left him because he became so evil. Joel didn’t do those things for survival, he did them out of spite because his daughter died. That’s willful ignorance. That is also the point of the game, revenge is a never ending cycle.

    I knew The Fireflies especially their leader Marlene were villainous long before TLOU's final act in the hospital especially due to hearing how they massacred whole groups of innocent people simply because they refused to bow down to Marlene as their dictator queen, and then there's the revelation of "spoiler alert" of Marlene more then likely being the one who murdered Ellie's mom when Ellie was a baby. And then there's the whole Ellie being the key to a vaccine/possible cure right first as Joel when you're going back through the hospital on that violent rescue mission you find notes revealing that there were other immune individuals put through the same surgery and it didn't work which meant they died for nothing, meaning there was a 99% chance that Ellie was going to also die for nothing.
    And even if it worked given the other villainous crap the Fireflies especially Marlene pulled there was a high chance that Marlene was going to hold the cure to saving humanity hostage and only give it to the people who bow down to her and become her slaves.

      @davidtitleman8743 Před 15 dny +1

      Actually, in the show, Marlene did kill Ellie's mom, but it was a mercy kill. She was infected while giving birth to Ellie and would have turned. That's why Ellie is immune; she was literally born with the cordyceps, becoming a symbiosis rather than a parasitic relationship. Neil Druckmann worked on the show and said Ellie's backstory is canon to the games.
      On remakes, they took out the recordings that said the operation would have failed; I've no idea why they included that, guess it was a big mistake. The directors of both the game and the show said that if they did the procedure, they'd have the vaccine. Kinda railroading but . And In real life, doctors said they would never, ever do the procedure. Which I agree with.
      Where did they say they executed civilians, I must have missed that part? Even then, I agree with your last paragraph - the cure wouldn't help anyone. If the Fireflies wanted to help they should have learned from Jackson.

    Another point against the Fireflys, killing Ellie for a "cure" is pointless because that not how you get a "cure" for a fungal infection. Fungus doesn't work the same way as a virus, their 2 completely different kinds of infection and can't be cured in the same way as the other. So yeah, if they killed Ellie, not only would they have killed the only person immune to the fungus, they also wouldn't have a cure for it either.

      But you can kill fungi, and find ways to stop them from taking hold, or releasing spores. From what I’ve heard it’s easier to cure a fungus because unlike a virus they don’t evolve constantly.
      That’s why C19 was so hard to get a hold on. Every infected person is a chance to evolve. Which is why people not taking full courses of antibiotics makes viruses more resistant to treatments. There’s no way to get a “one size fits all” type of treatment/cure.

So, given the premise of The Last of Us, they'd just need to take our modern anti-fungal drugs, as well as the knowledge we have of what can kill fungal infections and mushrooms, and combine it and apply it. The Minutemen became too powerful to keep the corruption in check and lead to its own demise. It stopped being an army of the people, by the people, for the people. Now that’s not to say there’s no good people in the Minutemen nor that the idea of the faction’s existence isn’t a good cause. Okay, several of these are a stretch, biggest one being the Alliance and The various Fallout factions. For the Alliance, they've literally been at war for generations against invading races, and yeah, splinter factions happen, it doesn't make the Alliance itself evil, it just shows that they're, y'know, human. For Fallout, everyone not a Vault Dweller from a control vault has serious issues because Fallout. I mean, it makes sense, several CENTURIES of horrible crap is going to have some folks not particularly becoming the paragons of virtue. And again, a theme that keeps coming up is 'Oh look, a splinter group within X faction did Y, and that makes the faction evil'.

    Also, the fireflies in TLoU, their "doctors" had mostly veterinarian experience and not actual human doctors and Ellie was not the first immune person they found, but since they had no clue what they were doing and were looking blindly for some sort of cure, all the other immune people they came across died on the operating tables and they were no closer to a cure for it, meaning Ellie would have died for absolutely nothing.
    if you do a video of games where some factions or races are experiencing peak irony for their own actions you could look at the Elves in the Witcher series, how they were driven out of their homelands, abused, killed or treated like lower worth beings by the humans, you may look to what the Aen Seidhe did to a species of reptilian people that were there even before the elves were, the Vran. If you side with Iorveth in Witcher 2, you will hear him point out some of these things when you reach Loc Muinne.

    Think about it.
    Nuka World Raiders only take settlements which YOU the player choose to them.
    But at the start of the game, you get Sanctuary as your own private settlement. Then Preston come, march in, and take the settlement for the Minutemen even without asking if you like it or not.
    Then he just give random orders to you to take settlements by force.
    Worst of all, if you destroy the Institute with the Minutemen, even if you turn on the alarm for evacuation, you basicly do what the Gunners did in Quincy.

Yeah, he's an evil despot tyrant, but he actually forces the dwarves of Orzammar to be more progressive, destroying the caste system in the process as he allows the Casteless into the military (And turns various undesirables into mindless golems when he's not assassinating them) and pretty much allying with his neighbors above ground.
    Harrowmant, meanwhile, dies on the throne some time after the game, failing to do anything because he's too old and weak to force the other nobles to do anything.

    I disagree about the Minutemen, at least when it comes to the timeframe the player interacts with them.
    My biggest one was from Dragon Age 2. You spend the whole narrative learning that the mages are basically treated like expendable slaves by the city and the Templars.
    Yet, if you support the mages in the end, their damn leader gets desperate enough to use blood magic and turn himself into a raging demon which is exactly what the Templars were constantly warning everyone could happen. Yeah, you could argue the whole ‘self filling prophecy’ line, but still.
    That jack ass move by the NPC really stabs the player in the back and makes you look like an idiot.

Only elf faction that kept it real and stayed allied with the horde and their elven and merfolk brethren were the blood elves. I like yall videos but yall need to do deeper dives and explain better if you're going to cover such nuanced topics
