- Ever wanted to build your own synthesizer but unsure how to start your DIY journey or just don't really have the time? Then look no further as KORG have announced the ARP ODYSSEY FS KIT, a faithful re-issue of the famous paraphonic classic in an approachable assembly kit for you to put together yourself and immerse yourselves in the deep sounds of this analogue beauty.
In this video, we unbox and assemble the Odyssey from scratch before plugging it in (and not blowing anything up) and seeing how it sounds. While a bit more hands-on than other build kits from KORG, the instructions were very clear and easy to follow with no soldering knowledge required and as expected, it sounded AWESOME.

Korg Guy 1: "What do we do with all these left over parts for the Arp Odyssey we no longer have the funds to assemble?"
Korg Guy 2: "Sell it the customers for similar or more money than the original and call it a "Kit". "
Korg Guy 1: "Genius! Sheer Genius!"
very smart from Korg , you have to pay for making the assembly job
Very cool brother 🙌 🥷
First the MiniKorg reissue and now this. What are they smokin'?
Yeah ok I need one.
Lachy can build it for me tho.
@@binofski_music6037 He is onto it now
Nice video! What cables did you need to connect the Odyssey to the Korg Oscilloscope?
Hey, You can use a 1/4inch TS to 3.5mm TS or XLR to 3.5mm depending on which output you are using on the Odyssey
@@Noisegate Awesome thank you!
@@smokey5100 Cheers, anytime
@Noisegate So you tune VCO to whatever note/sound you want, then if I press a C on keyboard it will be a C? Im confused. So the tuning of the VCo is for the "sound/pitch" only, then the keyboard is a regular tuned keyboard?
Because the Odyssey has 2 VCOs it can play 2 independent pitches duophonically. To play the Odyssey like a regular keyboard you'll have to tune both VCO 1 & 2 while holding a C Key down using a tuner. Korg actually have something perfect for this called the NTS-2 Oscilloscope which you can see in the video. It lets you visualize the Odyssey's output signal and has a tuning function for tuning oscillators. Hope this helps! Check out the NTS-2 here www.korg.com/au/products/dj/nts_2/. Hope this helps!
Thank you lots. Cheers!
Where u buy
Available in stores at the end of March
Price uk ?
Hopefully the keys are better than the previous FS reproduction
They feel great!
lol €1,899
Haaaaaaa
Bro how tf you build it though
You just build it! Jokes, its a simple plug and screw build, no soldering or electronics work involved.
I looked at the price... i laughed for about half an hour..... i looked at the price again... and laughed some more. Yeah no thanks, THIS IS INSANE!!! Especially when there is a Behringer Clone available that is fantastic and costs wayyy less. This thing here is only for rich Synth Snobs with toooo much money. Sorry..
what's the name of the behringer clone?
@@jacopocinelli1410 Behringer Odyssey
The Behringer version also has a sequencer and effects. I have the Behringer version and the Korg desktop and if I could afford it I'd buy this one. Just for the fun of putting it together with the kids. I've obviously listened to the two side by side and there is little to no difference in the two. Unless you have tons of money to spend, I highly recommend the Behringer.
Why am I seeing Korg arp’s for $500 used and this pain in the ass is $1,800
:)
Unless someone reanimated Allan Pearlmans long dead corpse and got him to reissue this, why would you buy it over the Korg reissue made with the blessing of Dave Friend?
Why bother when you can get a Behringer Odyssey with a sequencer and effects cheaper and ready built.
Sorry, but to me, a synthesizer "kit" should involve, at the very least, some soldering. Buying a box of pre-made parts that have to be screwed and plugged in together is not what I consider a "kit." And looking at the components that make up this synth, the price they are charging is outrageous.
Indeed you have a point. I sometimes look at kits and if they're the same price (almost) as a ready built version then it's no contest.
Totally agree, it’s not even a challenge ….super stupid like this
Finish off the manufacturing for us yeh
No soldering? Boring....
My first synth was a Korg MS-10. This kit and price make me sad for Korg. WTF
Why would anyone buy this? You realize that you can get an original for considerably less and they look, sound, and feel a lot better? I think I paid $1300 for a completely refurbished mk2 with upgraded sliders. Prices are also dropping on everything. This product is a terrible idea and the price is way off.
2000 Euro ????
