In this snowboard video we attempt to hike Mt Yotei, which is one of the most iconic mountains in Japan. We attempted this hike last year but failed at reaching the summit with our snowboards. This time around we're hiking the volcano with snow shoes and getting an early start, so hopefully we can reach the summit. If we can manage to summit the mountain we'll have one of the most incredible rides down snowboarding through powder and pillows. Well done, I've been up there too, such good memories. So worth it! We even boarded into the crater, 2min down and 25min back out, but worth it also :D
How safe is snowboarding down into the crater? Id be keen on doing this whole hike. Planning on going to japan in February
@@angusbruce6475 well no issues when I was there. Whatever you do, go with a guide! There's some sketchy terrain traps you don't want to catch an avalanche in

This year has actually been oretty bad for Japan. There isn't enough snow at most of the resorts. I am glad to see that you found one that has managed to barely escape that. You made the most out of it, and thats good.

Crazy how there’s no snow in Japan this year ! You still manage to get decent powder but it’s not japownuary this year ! Hope you still have a great trip !
It's a pity the 19/20 season had the worst snow in decades. We were there Feb 20, and there was hardly any depth of snow compared to our Feb 15 visit.

I was really stoked on the snow shoes! Easier for hiking in variable terrain compared to the split board. I'm going to look into buying a pair in Whistler.

Would you pick snowshoeing over splitboarding ? I haven’t gotten into splitboarding because of the investment but I didn’t know it was as possible with just snowshoeing... or are there limits? Sorry for all the questions just very curious
I think snow shoeing is better when the snows not too deep and fresh. Snow shoes are perfect when the trail through the snow has already been made.

We rented snow shoes. How long it takes depends on your fitness. Most summit in 5 hours avg
