- This week Ping is joined by of the true pioneers of motocross in the US Gunnar Lindstrom started out racing in the 60's in Sweden and soon became an engineer at Husqvarna. After coming to the US as to race he was one of the top guys in the new AMA National series. He started his own successful aftermarket company the the Gunnar Gasser throttle housing and later became the Team Manager for Honda HRC. He's seen all the advancements in our sport from introduction of the mono shock to disc brakes to 4 strokes. His memory is fantastic and his enthusiasm for the sport hasn't diminished, sit back and enjoy one of the best history lessons on Motocross ever!
Best show in a long, long, long time.
Legendary figure in the sport
I just want to say that riding for over 50 yrs now that I new very little about Gunnar and his accomplishments. I was familiar with the name, having raced during the 70's and 80's but it was great putting a face and voice to his stories. I'm glad you give credibility to these pioneers of our sport by having them on your show. I don't know where the sport of motocross would be without their involvement in the early years. Thank you for recognizing these humble heroes of our sport.
The Gunnar Gasser throttle in the 70's was awesome, thanks to Gunnar Lindstrom..
These kind of ground breaking Moto legends seem to be left out by other podcasts. Hopefully you understand what you’re show is doing for our sport, even being 64 and a rider/racer from 10 years old the details you’re guests about the turmoil of getting it off the ground in the USA is mind boggling, from the outside it seemed like the manufacturers had a well thought out plan but the more guests we hear from seems like a little Devine Intervention through some first class people was also involved. Please try and get some more of the Trail Blazers from the development side.
Great Job Ping these flow like beautiful river ❤🙏🇺🇸🗽💪
An epic interview with an industry legend. Excellent!
I just called Marty to let him know he was being spoken of in a very endearing fashion...he was pleased
Absolute legend!
This was great. I love this stuff. So much we can learn from our elders and many do not listen or even give them the time of day. Mr. Lindstrom has so much knowledge about this sport and bikes to share. Thank you Ping for this Video!
You do fantastic interviews Dave!
You probably hear this alot dave, and I know you don't know me , I want to say thank you for having the heart and the passion to keep plugging along, you are a true ambassador to the sport and to me most important thing is it's rich history and the people in it. Thank you for being you.
great interview but what’s happened to riders meeting and the other one
I absolutely agree ' a good guy.
One of the most interesting episodes ever, I'm glad I got introduced to Motocross in the early 70's and now I get to hear these stories from people like Gunner and Roger, thanks Ping
This was so unexpectedly good. Very fascinating to listen to.
What a terrific interview. Gunner attends a few vintage mx events and he always has great stories. He is a true legend.
Man, what a great episode. One of the best!
Another excellent show. Great job Ping. I started riding in 72 and racing in 74 so all of this really hits home, especially the Husky history. Keep up the great work
I am more interested in this history than any other history.
Holy crap, a name I recognize!!
Great Stuff WTM!!! Thank you!!!!!
Great interview! I'm of both Norwegian and Swedish heritage and grew up in an area that was something like 60/40. The rivalry got so bad at one point that when we had a Norwegian Independence Day parade, the Swedes got mad and threw firecrackers at the float(s). So then the Norwegians got mad, lit them, and threw them back.
One of my favorite shows to date. Awesome guest and great interview. I’d love to see a Roy Turner show at some point.
Sweden represent 👌🏼.
Lars Larsson would be another great interview. He was there at the beginning when the Euros came over in the late 60's.
Another epic guest , l remember Gunnar as a racer & Honda team manager in the 1970's but had no clue of his past history at Husqvarna or where he went after managing Honda , very interesting man . I listened to both Gunnar & Scott Burnworth today while driving , both were great , the 70's & early 80's were my mx racing years so any guest from this era has my attention . Keep them coming Ping ❤
Crazy how different the Japanese approach was, being top-down vs bottom-up. Gunnar was right on the money for envisioning a job in the racing industry that operated that way, it’s just wild that it took a Japanese brand to do it rather than his hometown brand of Husqvarna.
Super cool show.
Very interesting , a great interview !
Hey ping .... Gary Bailey would be a good interview , I believe . 👌
Great interview. Motorcycle history is so much more interesting than the history you learn in school.
Malcolm Smith's shop was the first moto shop I'd been to when I was a kid. Never forget how awesome it was going to the shop checking out Metzler tires and Preston Petty fenders. Better than Disneyland for sure. Malcolm was my first sponsor. The service and sales mgr at his shop knew my parents, so naturally I got a sponsorship from them and got a new yz80.
Motorcycle history is definitely more relatable and interesting....truth be told, and a great deal more accurate
...and not prone to wokeism.
Helluva man. Great interview.
Side note, I do miss “God dammit Donny” it would be cool if he popped on for one. Maybe interview some MXA guys. Woah! The suspense! Enemies becoming frenimies!! James, RC, and Reedy did it! You Jody and Davy can too do it for America! Show us the way!
Great show. Interviewing these legends from years past not only give us a great insight into the early days of motocross, but their personal lives are also days gone by of working hard to get your success, which seems much more rare these days.
I was kinda surprised Honda was using solid swingarms way back in the day to stiffen them. You don't get much strength/stiffness by going solid. It's much more efficient to simply increase the outside "diameter" of the piece, but maybe that wasn't an option for them.
One thought on how to level the playing field of electric vs. 4-stroke vs. 2-stroke is maybe to calculate the area under a horsepower to rpm curve? That would take into account the wider spread of higher rpms vs. the limited rpm range of a typical two stroke. And, an electric bike's motor could possibly do the same. Not sure this would work, because that's really not a relationship like T x rpm = Power.
🔥🔥
Top 5 interview. Too 8 for sure. Thanks for keeping working on something goes. Super interesting to hear their story call pray for you to get Ronnie James Stewart Kevin windham, josh grant, maybe some euros, you’ll probably have to go to James place and be on his cast to get him kind of dual sport it up with bubba, but that will still be awesome
Great show fascinating 👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ping.....you gotta get Rick Sieman (Super Hunky) on WTS. The guy is a legend and the stories he can share. He'd be better than Hannah...and Hannah was awesome. Great interview with Gunnar too. Keep em coming.
Amazing.
I just thought I'd acknowledge the passing of Tim Gibbes , who Gunnar mentioned when recalling his trips to New Zealand.
Motorcycle prices haven't changed, only the purchasing power of the dollar as devalued....sad
annoying ads flashing on and off ruins this show unsubbing
What ads? We purposely do not monetize this show so that doesn’t happen. We have ad reads at the open, middle and end of the show and that’s it.
Are you referring to the sponsor logos at the bottom of the screen??
