NCL Dinner Buffet 150+ Food Items from Garden Cafe

- Check out more than 150 food items from NCL's Buffet for dinner. The buffet restaurant on NCL cruise ships is usually called Garden Cafe, though on the Star is is named the Market Cafe. The offerings shown in this video are from the Norwegian Escape in December of 2016, and we found them to be quite similar to the Garden Cafe food on most other NCL ships we have been on (Well, except the one on the Norwegian Spirit). Norwegian Cruise Line offered several theme nights such as Prime Rib night, Mexican Food and Seafood Night. Some of the best food were:
* BBQ Braised Short Rib
* Garlic Shrimp
* Mocha Butter Cream Cake
* Opera Cake
* Prime Rib
* Pork BBQ Baby Back Ribs
* Seafood Fritto
* Tiramisu Cake
There were some vegetarians offerings as you can see in the photo slide show, plus some no-sugar-added desserts. The Garden Cafe usually opens until 11:30 PM which is great for cruisers who catch a late show and want to try out some of the offerings from the buffet. Officially, buffet dinner ended at 9:30 PM, so after that to closing they may take away some of the items. For late night snackers there is also of course the option of going to O'Sheehan's restaurant as well which is 24/7.

What is the best buffet food you have eaten on an NCL cruise?
I would always bring these foods/drinks back to my room: a huge plate of fries and pretzel rolls from the garden café, ice cream from the garden café, shirley temples from the mixx bar.

I was recently on the Escape and, to be honest, I found the buffet to be better than the main dining rooms. But the restaurants are where it's at on the Escape. They are very good and worth it.

This is just what i was looking for...I was thinking of dining more for dinner at the Garden Buffet...and this to convinced me! Time to go raid my pathetic refrigerator and watch it again!
Yeah there were some very good food there. You can also check the main dining room menu ahead of time, and if it looks very good to you, eat there early and then head on up to the buffet to "sample" the best offerings there. That's what we do sometimes :-). Thanks for watching & commenting!

I've Been on many NCL ships including Breakaway. Note that not all those food items are on the buffet at the same time, although there is always a wide variety of choices. My preference is their dining rooms for dinner.

Since I am an early riser, what are the best times for breakfast/lunch/dinner to prevent standing in line?
In the morning, the buffet will not be busy from around when it’s opened (6 or 6:30 am) till about an hour after. You can also eat breakfast at the main dining room, or at OSheehan’s which people usually don’t realize serves breakfast. For lunch or dinner at the buffet, to avoid the crowd, you want to go right when it opens. This goes for dinner at the main dining room as well- though you’ll want to be outside waiting 15 minutes before opening (typically at 5:30pm) to get the fastest service. Have a great cruise!

We are working on main dining room food video (Savor/Taste/Manhattan Room)- should be out in the next few days. Same with an OSheehan's video (highly recommend that place). On the Escape we did try the improved La Cucina (Italian) & Le Bistro (French) and will have those videos as well. Both of those specialty restaurants are now a la carte. Thanks for watching!

You're very welcome! Definitely you should make reservations early for the specialty restaurants to get the time you want- otherwise you may be left with 9:30 PM and later times only. That is especially the case since you have the dining package. For the main dining rooms you would usually just show up, but they also do take reservations as well. If you want a good seat next to the dance floor at the Manhattan Room Main Dining Room, be sure to do reservations or show up 15 minutes before they open.

We're going on the Western. There doesn't seem to be enough posted videos on Western Caribbean excursions. :/
We went on the Eastern Caribbean (St Thomas, Tortola, Nassau). As for the Western itinerary, as you probably know Cozumel is a really common port. We've been there numerous times- Chankanaab National Park was probably the best excursion. You can take a $10 taxi to get there from port.
We've been to Roatan twice. First time we just had a local taxi gives us a 2 hour tour of the island ($25?). Second time we were with Carnival and we just hung out at Mahogany Bay which was where the ship docked. Harvest Caye is a new port and I've heard nice things about it!
Wonder if a year on, it's still as good? I'm on ncl spirit. 3rd time. And the foods DRAMATICALLY changed in variety and quality since last year.For the worse.
We were on the Spirit a couple years ago- great Mediterranean ports, but the buffet food quality & selection were not as good as the other NCL ships we've been on. Sounds like it's even worse now- wow. Thanks for taking time to share your experience!
@@TravelTouristVideos Yep! I told our head maitre . As one night I had to leave a meal I had ordered. It was terrible. I said it's the first time in my 18th cruise, that I've EVER rejected a dish. I said I had noticed a huge change in the food quality. He said in September of last year, head office did a change round. I said I can tell. He reported back our dissapointment. We got 12$ each o.b.c. as an apology next night. It might be in USA and just for us on NCL in Europe? But if I was a U.S. citizen, paying for a trip of a lifetime to Europe, I would be EVEN MORE dissatisfied.
OMG! I am about to loose my mind! I never realized all the good things at the buffet before for dinner! I always eat at the restaurants because I like being served. LOL I love the no sugar desert section! I do need low sugar orange juice to mix a powdered medication (ex. Trop 50). Do they have that available?

Dinner time is 5:30 I believe, so I would line up 10 minutes beforehand for the main dining room to get the fastest service and be able to watch the 7:00 PM show. Breakfast can be very busy at times, but note that O'Sheehan's (the 24/7 casual eatery) also serves breakfast so you could have a less stressful and quicker eat in the morning. Also on embarkation day everyone will likely be rushing to the buffet for lunch, making things possibly very crowded and a table difficult to find- try asking if the main dining room is open (it usually is) for lunch and go there instead for a nice and relaxed meal after coming aboard. Most of all- have fun and enjoy yourselves!

Yup it is free- this is true with all other cruise line buffets as well.

Last we were on board with NCL in 2017, they no longer had lobster in the main dining room for free. I think you can pay extra for it, or eat it at a specialty restaurant (extra $ of course). Royal Caribbean, Princess & Holland America still have the free lobster night.

Yes- we have been on nearly 30 cruises with various lines.
Wow the only cruise lines I have been on was Norwegian and Carnival and i went on 1 cruise each, so I hope to be doing a Disney Cruise
We liked Disney as well- the cabin was fantastic. Although dining-wise the service was slower than other cruise lines, and the buffet closed way too early. It does offer lots of other cool perks such as Disney shows and taking photos with characters (though you do have to spend a lot of time waiting in line). So if you have kids, it'd be a lot of fun for them.

You are right no lobster at the NCL buffet, though they did have Prime Rib one of the nights, and shrimp here and there.
TravelTouristVideos absolutely LOVE all the seafood!! Cannot wait! We haven't planned ours yet-- but it will be a tossup between Hawaii, Alaska, or Panama Canal. I've been to Alaska (my first husband worked the Trans-Alaskan pipeline). My present husband went to Hawaii. And he and I really want to go thru the Canal.
lobsters are only in specialty restaurant on the ship.
a gastronomic, gluttony nightmare....hopefully there's a heart surgeon on board.
