I’m also 41 with a 6 year old boy with autism. He’s non-verbal as well. I love him so much but I worry about his future. I pray to God for a miracle everyday.
@@ryebread105 Alongside praying, take the time to learn about autism and how to deal with it. Learn this from the side of the parent as well as the side of the one with autism so that you can give help and tips that are specific for those circumstances. These parents are beyond their time. I love how they said they cannot expect the siblings to take care of him because they dont want to stress the other kids out. Appreciate that so much.
Why do you appreciate that? That his siblings won't help is not a good thing. You really think workers will treat him as good😂 His quality of life will free fall and if God is good, he will follow his parents shortly afterward. If not, then he will be neglected and given rudimentary care until he dies....that God his siblings don't have to help.🙄😒
@@moosepatil5946 You clearly don't have any empathy for the siblings then. They didn't choose to be born into a family with an autistic sibling. The expectation on them would mean they lose their right to live their own lives to the fullest. How do you know if they don't check in on him at all?
@jiaminsee283 So what. They are a part of the family. No one gets to choose their family, but if he was more able bodied, they would find a way to help. But because he requires a higher level of care, his siblings get to opt out? Shut up, your empathy is exclusively for the siblings and not this man who will not have a quality life once his parents die. His parents did it for 40 years, and his siblings can figure out how to help him, for his end of life care.
@@moosepatil5946 I empathise with everyone. And if he were more able bodied, they further wouldn't have the obligation to put him before themselves. I voice out for the siblings because they are almost always expected to take full responsibility and care for their disabled sibling to the point, they prioritise the sibling before themselves. Which isn't wrong, but so sacrificial. I hope siblings who see this video and stumble upon this comment, realise that their willingness to help care for their disabled sibling is a very admirable and selfless act, not obligatory.
“That’s the beauty about my boy,” from the father. “It’s good for us,” from the son. “In my old age, it’s a joy to have a son like him,” the father. The mother respecting that the siblings have their own path and recognizing an autistic adult is very difficult to care for, and making sure she has contingencies so her son can have the best options. So absolutely touching and beautiful.

If you died TODAY, where would you be spending eternity? Have all your sins been forgiven or are you still hoping that you're a good enough person to earn a spot in heaven. The reality is that no one can earn a spot, our sin disqualifies us. But the God news is that Jesus paid for our qualification by dying on our behalf taking the punishment that we deserved. Get right with God today, for tomorrow very well might be too late. We invite you to REPENT and accept that Jesus Christ is Lord of your life by praying this simple prayer out loud right now... 'Heavenly Father, I turn away from my old life and repent for my sins. I believe that Jesus came for me, that Jesus died for me and that Jesus rose again for me so that I can be forgiven and receive eternal life. I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life from this day. Through Him and in His Name, receive the gift of eternal life. I ask you to fill me with the Holy Spirit and lead me for the rest of my life. In Jesus name - Amen. 🎉

But even so, you have the power to choose to not let your father's actions determine your future, because then you are allowing him to continue hurting you.

I don't agree. Duane's siblings should help. Otherwise it means they are very selfish people. That's the case in my family. Since my parents died, I have been left alone, coping alone with my depression by my mean, nasty sisters. I don't understand Duane's mother. I prefer his father who seems tender with him.Duane is not such an autistic case. That’s true, however, not all autistic people are low functioning like the man in this video. I just feel that too many (especially in the USA) still think that all autistic people are like that man.
Depends on the family. It's been relatively easy in my family, because most of us are autistic. That includes me, my sibling, my father, my grandmother, and probably individuals further back. It was actually the neurotypical ones in the family that were a struggle to deal with, and they oftentimes ended up getting rejected from the family for causing issues. Other families have an opposite story, but it varies. Same goes for families with ADHD, where it's usually the case that most immediate relatives don't have ADHD but almost half or a little less do, and so there's oftentimes a lot of conflict between the neurotypical parents of ADHD children and vice versa. Point is that it doesn't just go for families where autism is present, it becomes difficult for parents when their child has even the most common of neurological/neurodevelopmental/mental conditions. Whether it's autism, ADHD (or anything else), point still stands. Autism is not unique here.
There's no telling how much struggle he has watched his son go through just to make it to today. I would be insanely proud of my son for making it that far in life with the world stacked against him.

Thank you for sharing the video of your son. We never heard autism in our childhood. Came to know about it last 6-7 years. This video is good to spread awareness of autism and to treat those people with love, patience and care.
A big thank you to the parents for being brave and willing to show a small glimpse into their and their son's lives (talking about mental health and developmental issues in some societies can be much more taboo). We need to further de-stigmatize ASD. It comes in many, many forms with various challenges. However, working with or raising a child with ASD also brings a lot of rewards. Sending them much love from Canada.
Autism is not a disorder, it’s an alternative neurotype which is supposed to exist alongside the atypical mind. I was refused a diagnosis as a child because I’m not mentally disabled like the man in the video. I am also wondering if that man is learning disabled as well as autistic but is only diagnosed autistic for meeting the outdated male stereotype. Especially in the past, most of those who got diagnosed were autistic people who were suffering, non verbal and “low functioning” like that man.
It broke my heart to hear them say it would be a burden to ask the other siblings to care for him. I grew understanding that family is everything. If anyone of my siblings or parents suffered with a medical or mental health condition, it would be my honor to care for them as best as I can. I wish we all felt that way. Duane deserves to be around family and what’s familiar to him.
@Fineapple Felicity it’s easier said then done. Trust me our hearts are in the right place but it’s the work that needs to be put in that’s the hard part. Sorry to seem negative but it’s the truth. It is quite a journey guiding and mentoring my now 20 yr old son with autism. He has breakdowns, loses his temper, gets very frustrated. I try to push him towards socializing with others his age. He is taking a full schedule at college, but does not socialize with others. However, when he masks, he speaks so intelligently to anyone and they are impressed. He becomes exhausted after his encounters with other people. All I want is for him to be able to make a living and take care of himself. This clip is very enlightening.
Really true. Many children fade from their parent lives but autistic children really love their parents with a pure innocent love that they never grow out of.
I'm 36 & mildly autistic. My mom said that having me around at her age (67) is wonderful as I still act the same way around her as when I was small. Never go to bed without a goodnight kiss
Duane seems to be like my brother a lot. My brother started off non-verbal, he went through speech therapy to become verbal although he does not always speak properly, he does most of the time. He is super shy and has extreme social anxiety but ironically he was always the most popular kid at his schools because he was very considerate, helpful, and acted as a guardian to others. He has a self-less personality. Even the vocational school/day care center we have him at now says that although he keeps hiding from people and refusing to engage socially besides activities, they love him so much that they are willing to let him stay despite the fact he hasn't made progress in his social issues in a long time. The BIGGEST worry for people who care for special needs people (whether it's physical or mental disabilities) is what happens when you're not around. How will they life when you're not around ever again? Will people abuse them? Will patient and open-minded people treat them human and not confuse them for some violent drug addicts or creeps just cause they happen to yell and throw a hissy fit in public? One of the blessings of this time we are living in is the "MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MOVEMENT" that spread like wildfire on social media especially. For people with mental health issues and mental illnesses to share their experiences and try to connect with people. There is a popular yt channel by a guy that interviews people with various special needs and rare conditions to show to the world that they are human and not to be feared. We need more understanding for people with Autism and down syndrome because us who love them and live with them at home are tired of being in a society where they are treated as people who cannot feel or connect. Like they are empty husks with no emotion and cannot understand your words or actions in the slightest. Like they cannot learn and grow just like the rest of us. Please, if you don't know what it's like to have a loved one on the spectrum. Treat them like normal people, do not be scared and do not think they have 0 understanding. If you see a person talking to themself and hitting themself on the head frantically, don't automatically assume it is drugs or that they are a violent schitzo. For some people on the spectrum that's just what they do and they are acting out an impulse like some of you impulsively check social media every 2 minutes. There is SO much to learn. And we need to make a lot of progress so that these people can have brighter futures and live independently without fear of being mishandled and ignored. My brother is aware he has autism, and he is aware that most people think he is just crazy or on drugs. He's said to me before that even his teachers - the people who he is supposed to trust don't believe him or listen to him when he tries to tell them something important. Because they think he doesn't know what he is talking about. Honestly the best school my brother ever attended was his high school. The staff there were all perfect from the school security to the principal. They really helped those students grow and I wish more facilities and schools meant to deal with special needs kids were like that. Anyhow. I want nothing but the best future for Duane and his parents. And for those of you who deserve it.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

@@moosepatil5946They didn’t say the siblings aren’t willing to help. They just see it as their job as parents for as long as possible.

I just feel that too many (especially in the USA) still think that all autistic people are like that man.
@@The315fan fair point. Similar to how some think autistic children are 'less intelligent than their peers' when the opposite is in fact true.

Youre obviously not a parent or you'd know it's unconditional that's what a parent is.
TheOtherWhiteBread0 there’s some parents who aren’t capable of doing that though, which is why adoption exists. So no just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean you can do that.
Imagine if we all had parents like these?!!! The world would be a much better place.

This is so heartbreaking yet so beautiful. I have an autistic nephew, I rarely get to see him but I often pray for him. This video teaches me so much about autism making me learn so much about my nephew too. May all the parents with autistic children be blessed abundantly. Nothing but love 💙💙
Anyone who raises someone with autism is incredibly strong, especially when they do it alone.
Tish is true^
My brother has autism there is also something with his nerves (he feels pain hot and cold things a lot less).
He wants to eat way too mutch because he can't feel that he is full. So we restrict him on eating witch he doesn't like at all.
But he also helps a lot around the house but that doesn't fill his day so he is bored all the time. Because of that he can be more difficult to handle.
My mom and dad are doing their best they have 5 kids and are both working (part time and full time)
If you ever see someone that looks or sounds weird or differend please consider they can't so anything about it and treat them with respect

"I'm very worried about Duane's future when we are not here"
😢
Yeah. Thats the sad and scary part 💔
I pray for this family and I hope that Gods mercy is upon this brother when the time comes for his parents to depart this earth.
Fineapple Felicity my brother has severe form of autism. Chrome-some 2 deletion. He will never live by himself and he gets startled and agitated very quickly. Hes 14 now my mother is 45 she will be taking care of him until she dies. I asked her me being the oldest if shed want me to do it. She said she didnt want ti burden us with him that shed give him to her brother my uncle. Because to her thats her child she wants her children to live thier lives. Now of course id gladly take him but still you have to understand where the mother is coming from

People in the same situation understand this. I am no different. I can't stand to think about what will happen after we are gone. But my child is growing little by little, day by day. @@sarahu.5446 but he was saying the truth
