    BACKGROUND
Countdown is the channel’s longest running show and the first show ever broadcast on Channel 4 when it launched 40 years ago, in November 1982. The original version of Channel 4's #Countdown is the French television programme « Des chiffres et des lettres » (literally "numbers and letters"), where the numbers round is referred to as « Le compte est bon » ("the total is right"). #DCDL debuted in 1965 as « Le mot le plus long » using letters only, and reached its present format in 1972. This year marks the shows 50th anniversary.
    SPIN-OFF
"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations ten years ago.

Second teatime teaser also had "coca leaf" possible which seemed a bit cheeky for daytime!

I was pleased to get one that no one else got!
    For 661:
    7x8=56, +9 for 65
    65x10=650
    650+7+4=661

Yep, was surprised to get it when they didn’t:
      7 x 8 = 56
      56 + 4 + 7 = 67
      67 x 10 = 670
      670 - 9 = 661

    460:
    8 + 7 + 3 = 18
    25 * 18 = 450
    2 * 5 = 10
    450 + 10 = 460
    3 * 25 = 75
    8 + 7 + 2 = 17
    75 + 17 = 92
    92 * 5 = 460
    7 - 3 = 4
    4 * 25 = 100
    100 - 8 = 92
    92 * 5 = 460
    7 + 3 = 10
    10 * 2 * 25 = 500
    8 * 5 = 40
    500 - 40 = 460

First round was trivial. 50*6=300, 7*4=28, add them together.
Second round was also really easy. 25*10=250, 5*(4+2)=30, take it away.
Third round was a lot less scary than it looked at first. 25*(8+7+3)=450, 5*2=10, add them together.
And in the final round I got 660. (9*7)+(7-4)=66, multiply by 10.

460, using all the numbers from left to right:

    328:
    6 * 50 = 300
    7 * 4 = 28
    300 + 28 = 328
    50 + 4 = 54
    54 * 6 = 324
    324 + 4 = 328
    6 + 2 = 8
    8 * 4 = 32
    50 + 32 = 82
    82 * 4 = 328
    50 - 4 = 46
    46 * 7 = 322
    322 + 6 = 328
    50 - 7 - 2 = 41
    4 + 4 = 8
    41 * 8 = 328

Always happy when you can use the numbers in order: 1st round: (50*6)+7*(4+4)/2
    For the 3rd round:
    25+3=28
    8*2=16
    28*16=448
    448+7+5=460
    For the last round:
    8*9=72
    72-7=65
    65*10=650
    650+4+7=661

    @Nullifidian Před rokem

In the first round, I saw Brian's solution, but I also had these alternatives:
    50 - 7 - 2 = 41
    4 + 4 = 8
    41 x 8 = 328
    7 x 4 = 28
    50 + 28 + 4 = 82
    6 - 2 = 4
    82 x 4 = 328
    50 + 4 = 54
    54 x 6 = 324
    324 + 4 = 328
    50 - 2 = 48
    48 x 7 = 336
    336 - 4 - 4 = 328
    50 - 4 = 46
    46 x 7 = 322
    322 + 6 = 328
In short, a very easy problem.
In the second round, I always try to solve low-target one-large problems without using the large number, so here's some "four small" solutions:
    7 + 4 = 11
    11 x 10 x 2 = 220
    5 x 4 = 20
    20 + 2 = 22
    22 x 10 = 220
    10 x 5 = 50
    50 + 7 = 57
    57 - 2 = 55
    55 x 4 = 220
    10 - 4 = 6
    7 x 6 = 42
    42 + 2 = 44
    44 x 5 = 220
    4 + 2 = 6
    7 x 6 x 5 = 210
    210 + 10 = 220
    Another really easy problem.
In the third round, I saw Rick's solution, except I multiplied by 5 x 2. I also had these solutions:
    25 x 3 = 75
    75 + 8 + 7 + 2 = 92
    92 x 5 = 460
    25 - 2 = 23
    8 + 7 + 5 = 20
    23 x 20 = 460
    25 - 2 = 23
    7 - 3 = 4
    23 x 5 x 4 = 460
    25 - 5 = 20
    8 x 2 = 16
    16 + 7 = 23
    23 x 20 = 460
    5 x 2 = 10
    10 + 8 = 18
    25 x 18 = 450
    450 + 7 + 3 = 460
In the final round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had these alternatives. First, a variant of Rachel's solution:
    8 + 7 = 15
    15 x 4 = 60
    60 + 7 = 67
    67 x 10 = 670
    670 - 9 = 671
    8 + 4 = 12
    12 x 7 = 84
    84 + 9 = 93
    93 x 7 = 651
    651 + 10 = 661
    10 x 8 = 80
    80 - 7 = 73
    73 x 9 = 657
    657 + 4 = 661
    10 x 9 = 90
    90 - 7 = 83
    83 x 8 = 664
    7 - 4 = 3
    664 - 3 = 661

  • @peterkwan1448
    @peterkwan1448 Před rokem

For the first round, I noticed that 328 = 8 x 41, which means that there are several alternatives based on factoring, with one only uses the small numbers:
    50 - 7 - 2 = 41
    6 - 4 = 2
    41 x 2 x 4 = 328
    7 x 6 x 4 = 168
    168 - 4 = 164
    164 x 2 = 328
Besides, I found other solutions as well:
    50 - 4 = 46
    46 x 7 = 322
    322 + 6 = 328
    50 + 4 = 54
    54 x 6 = 324
    324 + 4 = 328
    50 x 7 = 350
    6 x 4 = 24
    24 - 4 = 20
    350 - 20 = 330
    330 - 2 = 328
The second round is another easy round. Apart from Rick's solution, there are many ways to achieve the target, with some only uses the small numbers:
    7 + 4 = 11
    11 x 2 x 10 = 220
    5 x 4 = 20
    20 + 2 = 22
    22 x 10 = 220
    5 x 10 = 50
    50 + 7 - 2 = 55
    55 x 4 = 220
    7 + 2 = 9
    25 x 9 = 225
    225 - 5 = 220
    7 + 4 = 11
    25 - 5 = 20
    11 x 20 = 220
    25 - 4 = 21
    21 x 10 = 210
    5 x 2 = 10
    210 + 10 = 220
    25 + 5 = 30
    30 x 7 = 210
    210 + 10 = 220
For the third round, in addition to Rick's solution, I got the following alternatives:
    7 - 3 = 4
    25 - 2 = 23
    23 x 4 x 5 = 460
    25 + 5 - 8 = 22
    22 x 7 x 3 = 462
    462 - 2 = 460
    25 - 2 = 23
    8 + 7 + 5 = 20
    23 x 20 = 460
    25 x 5 = 125
    125 - 3 - 7 = 115
    115 x 8 / 2 = 460
For the final round, I got Rachel's easy solution, and I also got the following alternatives:
    9 x 10 = 90
    90 - 7 = 83
    83 x 8 = 664
    664 + 4 - 7 = 661
    8 x 10 = 80
    80 - 7 = 73
    73 x 9 = 657
    657 + 4 = 661
