Just changed my cammed highly modded 5.3 03 silverado to flex fuel and finished tuning the MAF yesterday. Wemt with a gm sensor and since it was a v6 truck its a return style fuel system. Holley rails and regulator on the return side. It turned out really clean. Did a segement swap and retuned everything. Im gonna say i picked up 15hp and 20 tq by the seat of my pants. Was able to add 2 degrees to the base map and added 2 degrees to my flex fuel multiplier table as well and no knock at all. The thing hauls ass now. Also runs smoother and more crisp. The benefits for e85 are more than just hp numbers. This is all in preperation for a turbo this winter. Truck put down 362 rwhp on 93. Looking to hit 375 rwhp before the turbo goes on. Great content!!!
Whats cool is how you gained 40rwhp with the headers. Headers on a stock cam 4.8/5.3 will only gain 20+/-rwhp, so it's neat to see how combination of parts work together to help the engine be a more efficient air pump. Meaning headers with stock cam will gain 20hp and say the cam with manifolds gain 30hp, but cam with headers gain 60-70hp, so you gain extra 10-20 hp when the parts benefit each other. Same goes for the blower. blower on stock cam/engine might gain 100 hp at 6-7psi, but blower with cam and headers on 6-7 psi might gain 130hp on top of the 60-70hp the cam and headers make.
I couldn't have asked for a better set of videos, so thanks for doing all this testing. I've been wanting to get more out of my own Tahoe, and this series is pretty much a cost per horsepower gain on everything.
My 03 yukon is is l59 truck. It's on e right now. Fixing to order hptuners btr stage 1 turbo cam ls7 lifers and ls9 head gaskets with posted 243 heads with a ebay 76mm turbo
You need gear and a stall for those tall rims and tires. If I had to guess I'd say you funny have the 3:73 gearing. You'd want at least 4:10 if you still plan on freeway driving. Love the build. Keep up the good work! Subd for progress!

Also what are your thoughts on injectors should I upgrade them as well at the same time and if so do you have any links to those as well for some that you might use give him I set up is greatly appreciated thank you so much!!! Hey man. Nice info. What type of header you guys used? The jump is big man.Shorty or long? wich tube size? 41Hp extra with the tune right? so change headers and tune the car? what changes must be done? timing fuel? what?
When we put headers on a car or truck we retune everything. Even the transmission. We normally use Kooks, Stainless works or Pacesetter. Always Long Tube
Do you still have the front driveshaft installed? On some of the older trucks the transfer and front driveshaft still spin and it just uncouples the 1 front axle so the spider gears get super angry if the front wheels aren't turning. Does it have a cam? Seeing what kind of power my burb might make.
Go to glenns auto performance and get the 50lb delphi drop ins. Get a tune and E85 sensor and you should be okay to run blends of E85 until you run new lines and pump.
I am not being a smart ass here at all I legitimately asking ... .....how can you get 40 rwhp out of just headers ? It looks cold in the north I believe they run weaker ethanol blends because when it's real cold the ethanol does not like to start so they go more gas but I have no experience with it just what I have heard
So you went from 260hp to 300 hp with by just adding headers? Thats ant amazing gains in hp for just headers. Sorry if im mussing something im not too mechanically inclined
What all was changed to hurt the torque I know y'all have wheel numbers but stock it's like 295 hp and 325 or 330 torque at the crank why do y'all numbers not seem to reflect that

Yes. That's headers, cat delete and a tune combined. Usually you net 30 rear wheel with headers

How exactly do you tune the computer to run electric fans? Might be a stupid question but I'm a little confused.
Yo u have to add a patch to the pcm that allows it to output a signal when commanded. PCM for less has a bunch of info on their website.
Is it only e85? I want to do this to my 2000 Silverado 4.8 but I want flex I fuel cause there’s not a lot of e85 pumps around my area

No, you can run a four-wheel drive truck on a two wheel drive Dyno, just not an all wheel drive truck
