Baloney- We've been laying Grave DW's for Decades.. You Grade it for Drainage, Good MediumSize Rocks for the Foundation, Lasy your Same Grvel your State Hwy Dept uses ( Rock Dust packs it Hard as Concrete) Add Top Color Layer you want( Brown, Gray, Black, etc) add Top Gravel Lerl( 2-3",- Ave $300) ave every 10 yrs.. or before selling your home & to dress it up? Add some Black Charcoal Bricks on the Sides boarding your Lawn.. Weed Control? Simple- You use a 6 mos Weed & Grass Control- 1 gal $10-$15 with its own Manual Spary or Pour it in your 1 gal Sparyer in Spring.. Snow Plowing ? Have them Plow when 4" or more and keep their Blade Guides 1-2" above the ground so not to plow up the gravel onto your Lawn..

I would certainly use what you are suggesting on a long, rural driveway, just not around my house where dust and gravel can be brought inside, moved around the driveway, onto neighboring surfaces, or otherwise. Our foundation is dust free, rut free, you can put table and chairs on it, wheelchairs, you can use decorative rocks without needed to top dress over time. It is more of a substitute for pavers, concrete and asphalt, not so much for road crush (or decomposed granite). The final surface is clear, stable and aesthetically pleasing, similar to hard surfaces, but permeable. Comparing our LEED, ADA, and SUDS compliant system to a packed gravel system is not what we aim to do. Our offering is a hard surface substitute, staying permeable over the long run with the benefits per above. A compacted gravel surface hardens over time (amongst other things), so quickly becomes a non-permeable surface. Just depends what you are looking for! Thanks for your input.

Sounds like a close rendition of John Fahey's 'Sunflower River Blues' to me, mate.
Especially the second section (refrain). Check it out see if you don't agree.

How many years will this last without dealing with weeds? Thanks.

THAT we can't answer! It would most certainly depend on how many seed sources are nearby. Having said that, seeds that land in our system, are landing in 'clear' gravel, so no compacted material where the roots can get a hold. As such, very easy to pull out. Thanks for your comment and apologies for the oversight and delay.
