Reasons why there are no more manuals in this price class and format of cars: 1. The new European Emission Cycles/Standards. It is easier to achieve with a automatic as you can program and set it up accordingly. 2. Even when you make it so it works for the regulations, the certification process is quite expensive. 3. The Tooling and Development costs in relation to the amount of cars you will sell with that option. Golf R is still a rare Model of the Golf. Combined with maybe 20% of customers considering to buy a manual the sales numbers overall are not that big to consider the afford in 2024.
Volkswagen stated that roughly 95% of total **global** sales of the Golf are automatic. It was **only the US** where manual demand, at around 40%, was strong, but only made up a very small percentage of VW's global figures. The Jetta GLI is a North American exclusive so that maintains its manual transmission (since Americans buy more manuals percentage-wise).
idk in Germany its also like 50/50 95% doesnt seem reasonable. The REAL reason is way WAY more simple: in the EU if you are a big car maker (obvious VW is) you need to compy to more and more harsh emissions and anybody know that its almost impossible by now to comply. And a DSG is "easier" to comply with than with a manual so.. the manual must go.
They'd already killed the stick in other markets - can't be any demand if you don't offer it. I'm sure it would have been lower than stateside, but still.. this is ridiculous. Now I'll definitely keep my Mk7.5 indefinitely. For that reason and that hideous iMax screen tacked onto the dash. Absolute non-starter for me.
I want to see what you think about the 2025 facelifted Jetta. Personally I think it was a massive improvment in design; and shouldve been what the Mk7 Jetta looked like in 2019.
It is so much better were all long time vw/audi fans in my family and that jetta is just horrible looking we start complaining about it every timr we see it on the road. That facelift is great
they give their run-around for the R but its because the R has a special button on the steering wheel and it would cost too much to make another config all for 1 button. The GTI can just adopt the standard button module for the wheel because it doesn't have any special driving modes. The touch buttons aren't bad though. I live with em, they're fine
Also to note North America was the only market that got the Golf R with a manual and even though we got what we wanted, they didn’t sell that many in manual form.
I love the exterior design of the Golf R, super aggressive and perfect for this type of car. What is the fascination these day with car interiors- massive screens, and an almost complete removal of physical buttons. I can see an increase in road traffic accidents, caused by drivers struggling to change heater settings whilst driving. Hopefully manufacturers will realise for some functions physical buttons are so much better. As an employee of a German brand with a round blue and white logo, I can’t stand what they are doing to their interiors and don’t get me started on the exterior styling on the new cars!!
I agree with you but have to admit that of all German manufacturers I like the older models better than the newer ones because they didn't have the "aggressive" label on them.
@@sithxle7546 but last year people thought the same about the M2. Look at the comments about a year ago. So ugly, I will never buy that. etc etc... Todays BMW are very shitty, you are right. Time will tell. Thank you for your comment..:)
The changes up front are a regression. Even if you approach it from the angle that they visually opened up the DRG by creating a giant black swathe across the valance, it reduces what little visual interest that made the pre-facelift look distinct. The pre-facelift MK8 R’s front end needed tweaking, not a visual overhaul. It had an overbite that didn’t balance the pre-facelifted bumpers jutting nose in the midsection. All they needed to do was enhance the trailing lower section with some additional lines to pick up light, or add some type of mild splitter element-body colored, or even black-to increase its jawline. The refresh is arbitrarily busier at the sacrifice of design purity.
100% a better car. You can look at Benni Leuchters Videos how they developed this car on the Nordschleife. Brakes, Engine, Suspension, Torque Vectoring, TPU, are all MUCH better then anything the MK7.5 ever had.
I'm in a car to drive not look at a 12 plus inch screen, it looks really out of place in a performance car. Also the newer one does have a better tune, where the paddles can control the shifts way better and wont force changes at unnecessary timing and will hold he gear you want, react to braking and accelerating responsively as well. Just got the 2024, and luckily the changes are basically software for me on the newer car however complicated they may have been to create, so would love to get my hands on the latest tune file, they can keep the info screen etc.
I’m impressed by how much better the 8,5 looks compared to the pre facelifted golf 8! Just hope the golf 9 will be all electric built on a bespoke EV architecture.
I agree on giant ipad what a bummer, I like a manual but they havent improved it for years not one review I've seen mentions how they like it (like current civic R for example), that aside they have to lower the engine output on the manual that tells me all I need to know, if they put a little into improving it shorter throw update some components to handle the power etc. yeah then manual but not gonna happen so not going to miss it. For me for the price why not throw in the 5 pot from the RS3 I mean whats a few thousand more tacked on to the price when its allready over $50k. In the USA they are purposely keeping control of inventory to keep price high so that alone is a huge turn off. I mean its $10k us dollars cheaper to buy in Canada FThat. I doubt I ever upgrade to a newer one. czcams.com/video/PxSU5AXTXzo/video.htmlsi=bkDX_kxM-fuV9C_i
VW already has stated that they will bring back physical buttons for the climate control settings. Strangely enough, the first new car with this "new feature" is the Skoda Superb. So I think what we see in this interior is short-term damage control by VW to fix at least some things customers don't like. E.g. these stupid volume sliders are backlit now at least. Also it got better hardware and performs less bad now. They did fire Herbert Diess, who is responsible for the current infotainment systems. So there is hope.
i wrote to Volkswagen about the Arteon black edition, but i guess it got lost somewhere in the translation E: and they replied actually and said they will pass it to their engineering team
The omission of a manual transmission makes perfect sense: nobody bought them. At least not enough to make it financially viable for the company. But its not all bad news -- the automatic is quicker, and more powerful.
If you make the screen that big, your software experience better be elegant and premium. VW software experience is not. It’s getting better, but it’s still a bit dated and cheap.
Just 2 details I dont like. The Wheel Design is trash to me and the wings on the bumper before to short now to long it needs to be in between I think to work for ME. OTHERWISE this IS the 8R as it SHOULD be, looks good - oh and inside we only need a non Touch Wheel aswell but other than that.. NOW its a Golf you can buy again. :)
VW trying to overthink everything.. 2024 looks so much better inside and no manual trans for 2025 but they are having a man trans for the Jetta though, makes zero sense!
I've always liked the proportions of the VW Golf, but I can't like a small detail that appeared in the most recent generations, which is that small glass triangle next to the A pillar.
I don't know about Golf R automatic transmission but I know that the normal Golf and Passat have the slowest automatic transmission I have ever driven Opel Corsa 2003 model year had better automatic transmission than Volkswagen does in 2021 and 22 and 23 model years that I have driven
meh, I mean I agree but not much better exterior. I actually like how this generation looks. I do think the mk7s look better but this looks better than a mk6 imo.
It didn't look good in iterior pre face lift I think Volkswagen, Seat, škoda and also Audi have the most boring interiors in that order it's just borning if I had to drive it every day I would probably fall a sleep in the mornings driving ro the work
I see they're still fitting Bridgestone Potenzas from the factory. What utterly garbage tires. My Mk7 GTI came with them, and they totally ruin the car, even with the LSD. No traction whatsoever. Rain on the ground? Forget about it.

The new Jetta GLI gets the 6 speed manual

Funny that you call it a TV! 😂
I love this design
Both look fantastic!
That actually looks good. I agree that manual should at least be an option. Even if it would cost a bit more I think people would get it.
Ok this LOOKS better than the mk 7/7.5
Is it a better car? Its up for debate, but i dont get why people think this design is bad

That infotainment screen will creat too much wind resistance and ultimately affect performance.

Do a video on the new Bentley Continental GT!

I don't get why people actually prefer manuals over automatic transmissions
It's more fun
If you've ever driven a good manual, you'd know
You're in total command of the car. Hi boy, it's such a thrill
Yes exactly❤
The big screen is comical. Absolutely ridiculous and a deal breaker for me.
It's probably great to use. Easier to see/read/navigate etc. If you're that hung up on aesthetics, you may want to rethink your priorities.
Yeah but that means you will never buy a new car again I guess.

the 6 speed in both cars are inferior to other offerings from Honda and Toyota. The DSG actually makes the cars special and improved performance.
