  • Match powder is great for a lot of projects as a weak substitute for gunpowder. This method involves a coffee grinder and boxed matches.

    You can use the fluff with residual match powder as a fire starter for survivalist with a flint and steel or a fire bow ash.

  • @Irishrebel092
    @Irishrebel092 Před 9 lety +23

    just put the ground fluff directly into the strainer and you can get all of the powder in one go. so instead of it falling to the bottom of a container, it just falls through the strainer into your bowl

    If you have access to cheap distilled water you could just put the coffee grinder slurry into some distilled water, mix it around and skim off the wood fiber, then let the water evaporate. at room temperature the good stuff in the match heads (potassium chlorate) should be relatively water soluble.

      There is the possibility of match powder getting stuck between the wood "pulp" and never making it into the sifter. It's like decanting before filtering, it's not efficient to put all the solution through a filter when it's possible to isolate the compound you want through density.

    you should extract the chlorate with acetone afterwards, and do a 6,5:3,5 mix (chlorate:sugar), this is about as powerful as Pyrodex by weight. for priming powder you can then mix this stuff with scraped off striking surface matter from the books.

    cool idea with the coffee grinder. I use this to grind my pyrotechnic chemicals up. It is a lot faster than a ball mill when you can use it for such. I would try to not grind your match tips quite as long. I think it might work better for you and not make that fluffy paper mache ball you had when you were done. try just pulsing it on off for a few seconds and then check in between to see what you've got in the container. put a match on a metal surface and hit it with a hammer. It explodes like a primer. I was doing this when I was 12 years old. I'm 73 and still know NOT to strike a common match even with the high speed blades of a coffee mill. This author is just plain lucky HE hasn't burned himself badly or set his house ablaze. I made lots of MATCH HEAD cannons in my youth and my brother in law found out the hard way to NOT ram match heads into a steel cylinder. He did so and it blew the ram rod through his hand. I was sitting at his kitchen table 10 years later and he was still picking festering paper match residue out of his hand with a needle. 10 years later. I was the one who brought him to the hospital after we threw the HOMEMADE cannon in the river. All the flesh of his palm was removed. I laughed for 2 hours at how STUPID he was. DO NOT IMPACT MATCH HEADS BY ANY FASHION. NOT A HAMMER, NOT A MORTAR AND PESTLE, DONT SQUEEZE THEM WITH PLIARS. I CAME TO THIS VIDEO TO SEE IF THERE MIGHT BE A WAY TO RE LIQUIFY THE TIP TO RE USE THE SUBSTANCE TO CREATE A QUICK CANNON FUSE BY FILLING A COPPER TUBE FOR MY GOLF BALL CANNON. TO EXPLAIN HOW I LEGITIMATELY FOUND THIS IDIOTIC METHOD TO CREATE MATCH POWDER. THIS IS BAD. BELIEVE ME. YOU CAN EASILY END UP IN THE HOSPITAL, IF YOU LIVE.

The video is to merely get people to start purchasing matchbooks in bulk and coffee grinders. (here's how it works: if you own stock in something and what you invested in isn't doing so well just find a project or make a video using what you have stock in. supply and demand. it also works in reverse.)

Did it when I was a kid. A friend (not to bright) used blue tip matches and of course during compression it went off and blew off a couple of his fingers. The idiot. You sure are doing a lot of work for little result. The paper from the match that is left over like dust from a silo explosion is highly combustible. Use it too.
