  • Enjoy a detailed review of the Daiwa Sol 3 Fishing Reel. The first of Daiwas LT reels. The majority of fishing retailers have dropped the price of this reel from $529 to $389 and with a saving of a $140 this reel is now at a price point in that mid-market sector that will appeal to many anglers.
    With a With 7 models to choose from including the 2000, 2500D, 2500S, 3000, 4000, 5000 & 6000. This was the first of Daiwas reels released with LT technology. LT stands for light tough and that simply means that the new reels weigh less and are more durable. The LT concept started with the Sol 3 but has since flowed into most of Daiwas range of reels including the Aird, Freams, exceler, Luvias, Certate, Exist, Emereldas, TD black, Silver Creek and others.
    The Sol 3 as a quality all rounder. A very versatile reel capable of many different fishing applications.

    Another good review, mate! I have three lower-end LTs - Legalis, Exceler, and Tierra. I am mostly impressed with how light they are, and how affordable for that kind of weight. They all feel fantastic in hand.

    G'day Alan, have to say your timing is impeccable! I actually had added this exact reel to my shopping cart from an online retailer yesterday and your review came at a perfect time lol. I was looking for a reel that had to be light, compact, a decent spool with close to 300m with PE 1.5 and also needed good drag power - referring to a 4000 or 5000 size reel. From a price point, I was also considering the latest Saragosas' however the sheer weight of them put me off. This reel seemed to match what I am after - mainly will be targeting gummies and snapper in WP. Great review, looking forward to using mine matched with a Shimano Raider 762 rod. Even the colours shouldn't be too far off from each other!
    Cheers

      @@fishingmad Haven't bought it just yet as was contemplating other options but your review basically made my decision easy. I might go for the 5000 size as the weight difference between that and the 4000 is minimal.

    Nice review mate. I have the 2500 sol 3 and I also used to own a 4000 size. They are nice reels no doubt I just think the price point at around $400 is a bit close to better quality reels like the Luvias or even the Certate. Since upgrading to the Certate Lt it’s really chalk and cheese in terms of quality and definitely worth the extra $200 or so. The gears in the monocoque body’s of the new Certate and Luvias should also last a lot longer then Sol’s 2 piece Zaion. If the Sol 3 was selling closer to $300 then $400 Daiwa would sell at lot more in my opinion. Cheers

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety +1

      I agree 100%, i would be very tempted to upgrade to a Luvias or certate. There probably the next reels on my shopping list that ill feature.

    • @AMLuc1320
      @AMLuc1320 Před 3 lety +1

      You won’t regret getting the Certate. Basically the Exist with an aluminium body instead of magnesium.
      Also on the Sol 3, I found the tightness of the gears changed a little after only a couple of outings, however the Certate lt is still like new after plenty of abuse.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for letting me know. Yeah I have been thinking of a certate for my saltwater fishing and a luvias for my ultralight fishing. They look fantastic. The feedback really helps.

    Hi Alan these vids have been killer and great info and experience!! Just wondering if you can shed some light I am looking at upgrading and getting a decent 2500 reel mainly for inshore, estuary and rock fishing. The reels I am looking at are, TD Sol 3, Penn Clash 2, Daiwa TD Black and Shimano Vanford. Which one would you recommend cheers 🤙🏼

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 2 lety

      Personally I like the Vanford the most out of that list. I bought a Vanford, Sol 3, Clash 2 all at the same time and had a TD black already, i found i just kept going for the vanford. Its light, handle feels great in the hand, has the better drag sound out of the lots, and a good buy when the major retailers have them on special. Nothing wrong with the other reels, they are all good choices, just my personal preference

    Hi Allan, you really are going the extra mile to provide us with valuable content. Its much appreciated. Can i get some feedback from you on your preferred method when it comes to spooling line on a reel. There is alot of talk on line twist and even the preferred knot used to initially tie the line to the spool. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks George

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for the positive feedback, its very much appreciated. When spooling you reels you cant beat having it professionally done from the tackle store you buy it from. This is where they remove the spool and fit it onto a spooling machine. The line goes on tightly and straight. I must admit i do many of mine at home, Ive never had any issues I just make sure the drag is set tight so the line goes on straight and tight, no where near as good as having it done in the shop. I know there are some home grade spooling devices but i haven't seen any real improvement using those. I hope that helps.

    • @GG-rj4oj
      @GG-rj4oj Před 3 lety +1

      @@fishingmad thanks. When i purchase a new reel i do get the tackle store to spool the reel. Every so often i like doing it myself, like during the restrictions. Busted fishing who is local, makes a line spooling device. I might go see him when we can travel.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety

      Good idea, some of those spooling devices will work fine. Just keep the tension nice and tight when you do it, by setting the drag nice and hard.

      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Lochie, i really appreciate the positive feedback. At this stage im still 50/50 on which i like better out of the Vanford or Sol 3. They both have some similarities practically same weight, size and drag capacity. The drag sound is better on the vanford and the vanford is a little bit smoother plus 10 year warranty. However the Sol 3 looks nicer and has slightly higher drag capacity and feels really nice in the hand. I wreckon I need a few weeks on the water testing both extensively. I wasn't sure about the vanford at first but it has grown on me.

    Is it smoother than the vanford. And is there less or more play in the handle than the vanford

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety

      Its a really good question. Both reels are very similar almost the same weights, size and drag capacities. Yet the feel quite different in the hand. The sol has the circle handle which is quite soft and the Vanfords have the rectangle handle which is quite stiff. The drag nobs are very similar however the sound of the drag is better on the vanford and its probably a touch smoother. But the Sol looks nicer. But both very very good options.
