    "Stands up and starts slow clap". Sir, after this video I feel like reading a book. I am a youtube veteran and also an old Mercedes enthusiast (owning and making videos about them occasionally as well), but this was pure gold among the senseless toxic content that has plagued the site over the years. Thank you and I hope you find peace and harmony in your diesel drenched journey, which I will definitely follow.

    I suspect the mileage is low because no-one can stand being in a red interior for long! Seriously, it's a fine choice and that car will run forever with regular maintenance. I have an R129 which has similar underpinnings and if you aren't afraid of having a go after watching numerous YT content you can buy the parts cheaply and upgrade it yourself, those suspension and steering bushes are relatively easy to do. As a bonus I don't think you'll find a comfier place to sit and if you can stop being American for a short while just resist buying one of those half gallon drinks.

    • @aj_nichols
      @aj_nichols  Před rokem +6

      You may be right about the interior! I love the R129! I think that is the pinnacle of Bruno Sacco's designs. I plan on doing all the suspension sometime this summer after I get caught up on the differed maintianance . It can't think of a car I would rather drive for any extended period of time!

      The car I drive in high school was a Rabbit GTI. My favorite thing about that car? The red interior. What I wouldn’t give to have a car with a red interior again, especially if it’s a dark red like this - no bright red for me.
      I hate that most cars these days have black interiors. To me it’s just claustrophobic, especially if the headliner is also black. Give me red, or green or brown or blue - something other than black or grey.

    From Japan. I currently drive a Porsche 996 GT3 and an old Land Rover Discovery 1, but I must say my old 320E (W124 sedan) was one of the most balanced, comfortable cars I'd ever driven. If Tokyo allowed diesel cars, I'd would love to have bought a 6 cylinder diesel wagon.

    Someone imported it from Canada to Portugal some time ago and it ended up being stopped for a bit of a long time before I rescued it.
    Being from Canada it inevitably does have some rust but it does also have a swapped 5-Speed manual gearbox and a #22 head!
    It’s currently having some mechanical fixes, including new injector nozzles from Monark and I intend to sometime in the future also repair the rust and give it a fresher look ❤😊

Kept it 10 yrs. Best car I've owned. Wish I still had it. But, I must admit, the frustration in finding parts for it today would be a problem for me. I'm not sure the MB dealer 3 kms away would be interested in working on it; I'd likely have better luck with the Indy Porsche mechanic who also handles VW & Audi diesels, and specializes in vintage Porsche. He maintains my not so vintage 09 Boxster for things I can't handle. Best of luck with your 300TD. Subscribed

    Speaking as the proud steward of a W116 300SD and questionable-life-choice-making W210 E300 Turbodiesel owner, your logic seems 100% sound.
    The 116 had 75,000 miles on it when I picked it up 3 years ago... cosmetically excellent in and out, but tired from sitting for 20 years. Went through EVERYTHING... now it drives like new and should last the rest of my life. I've added 20,000 miles.
    The 210 is a fresh acquisition with 103,000 miles... I've wanted a 606 turbo car for years and finally found one with a nice body and interior. An electronic problem child, but it'll get sorted over time... the computer complexity makes me pine for a 124. I like to think if the 116 300SD and the E38 750iL I used to own had a baby, it'd be the 210 E300 Turbodiesel.
    Great video, great collection! Liked, subscribed and rang the bell!

    I once had the 3 liter gas version of this which eventually committed suicide on the London orbital motorway when the head gasket blew. It was a great barge, but was a bit thirsty. Probably the worst things about these (for Americans) is the rear suspension that was derived from French Citroens and was shared by Rolls Royce. It was fantastically comfortable, but would be fiendishly difficult to comprehend if you have never worked on a Citroen suspension before.
