    In person the body shape actually was very appealing to me as I recently played one at a local guitar center. I really liked this guitar especially for the price .

      I agree. When I saw pics of the guitar I wasn't fully sold, but when I saw it in person there was something really nice about it and it almost looks totally different to photos... strange. It grew on me right away!

    I just bought a Sterling Majesty MAJ100 ICR on sale for 700 USD, and it came broken, beat up, and chipped. Sucks cause it was my dream guitar, and I don’t have enough for a new model. After returning it, I started looking for a new guitar and came across the Mariposa. Checked out reviews, saw yours, and fell in love with it. Just purchased it! So thanks for the demo! You got a new fan here

      Hey Andrew,
      Oh man, that sucks to hear. So sorry to hear your dream guitar got trashed. Did you get it second hand? Or was that from a store? Either way, that sucks. Hopefully you're able to get your hands on another one sometime soon!
      The Mariposa is a really fun guitar, I really liked it. At first, I didn't love the shape, but the more I looked at it the more it grew on me, and it plays so good! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and I'm glad that my video helped you find another guitar to ease the pain of losing the Majesty! That's great to hear. Looking forward to seeing your name pop up in the comments on other videos man! Thank you so much for the kind words!!

      @@LeighFugeGuitar yea it was secondhand! On EBay. I’m fairly certain it was damaged in shipping, and good news is I got my money back! But honestly, I’m not too upset. Bummed, yea, but it is what it is.
      And my name definitely will pop up a lot haha!

      Thanks so much. This was a really fun guitar to shoot with. I think the Sterling range are great these days. I remember when they were slightly cheaper and under the OLP brand, which wasn't as good quality. Right now, they're doing great!

    I notice that it’s more twang than a standard Gibson, and it’s because the longer neck with Fender standards makes the strings more tense. Beautiful guitar btw!!

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah the 25.5" scale definitely adds more tension. I guess it's more like a Tele with Humbuckers rather than a Les Paul. It's a great guitar, they're very well priced too!

    Fantastic demo! I'm so in love with this guitar's style, comfort, look, etc. However, I've always been hesitant with HH set-ups. Moreover, so many of the demos fail to show much more than the typical "rock" and stereo-typical HH styles. Thanks for showing more! The MM version of this is absolutely beautiful (especially that new blue with the laser-etched pickguard), but it's just so expensive. Maybe one day! But again, thanks for showing that even the Stirling version can do the job. After a great set-up this thing is worth twice the price, easy.

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  Před rokem

      Thank you for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it. It’s a really cool looking guitar, it’s quite quirky and unique which I like. There isn’t a huge difference between the Sterling ones and the MM models. There are obviously build and component changes but the Sterling’s hold their own against the full models too.

    Awesome demo. I came across this model earlier today and the look of it just struck me. It doesn't look like there are a ton of impressions or material on it, so I'm glad someone was able to do a good demo showing it off. I'm seriously considering getting this!

    Just got this a couple of weeks ago. I'm digging it! I like the two volume knob set up. Trem and locking tuners are nice. Love the shape, thought accese to high frets can be a little tough. Already did the split coil mod. Pretty versatile! I just still don't really understand how the treble bleeds work in this setup... still gets pretty dark when volume is rolled down.

    • @djencode
      @djencode Před 9 měsíci

      It's the opposite of a treble bleed actually. It is a volume and tone knob in one. And the two pickup volumes interact with each other as well in the middle position.

      Hey man,
      Yeah the current Sterling lineup is really strong! They're putting out some awesome guitars. They all sit in the £650-800 price range in the UK and they are some serious bang for your buck!
      I agree with you 100% on the shape. When I saw the photos, I wasn't sold on it, but as soon as I saw it in person I loved it!

    I was hoping to see it approach the Jazzmaster ballpark and I don't think it's terribly bad for a shoegaze/alt sound at all!

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  Před 2 lety +1

      I think it’s got a bit more kick that a Jazzmaster because of the humbuckers. You could probably get it into a similar ball park by using humbucker sized p90s

  • @magicman12b
    @magicman12b Před 3 lety +2

    What about the type of frets this guitar has. No literature any where talking about what size frets are being used.

      @LeighFugeGuitar  Před 3 lety +1

      When I was gathering specs to make this video I couldn’t find anything about the fret size either
      It felt pretty similar to the fret size on the Sterling Valentine from what I remember though

  • @psp777
    @psp777 Před 3 lety +1

    How's the neck profile. you mention "thin" ...what would you compare it to...have you tried the USA made Mariposa? How does it compare? I just picked up a Sterling Cutlass and it feels like a 59 Les Paul neck. Very chunky.

    • @dannoall8427
      @dannoall8427 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, he's a bit off on that assessment. I tried one along side the Cutlass and their necks are very similar. A good, full "C" shape.

    • @psp777
      @psp777 Před 2 lety +2

      @@dannoall8427 yes, I'm noticing the SBMM have, on average, much thicker necks than their EBMM counterpart.

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  Před 2 lety +3

      Thin is subjective. To me, and this particular model that I demo'd, the neck was thin. Thinner than necks of my own guitars that I regular play. But it's hard to quantize thin when it comes to neck size. To some people a 59 Les Paul might be thin haha.
      It's certainly not a baseball bat neck that's for sure.

    • @dannoall8427
      @dannoall8427 Před 2 lety

      @@LeighFugeGuitar - Funny, after having bought one (-week or so), the more I play it the thinner the neck seems to get. Not shredder thin, by any means, but as you said, no '59er either. Really comfortable. Glad you chimed in, Leigh. Great review.

  • @ivansloe

    Looks beautiful, but no tone control? That would stop me buying this.

    • @LeighFugeGuitar
      @LeighFugeGuitar  Před 2 lety +4

      If you use a tone control a lot that's certainly a deal breaker. The artist who designed it doesn't need one so they didn't add it. It's a great guitar though. I guess you could easily modify it to have a tone control instead of two volumes.

      Not a fan? I liked the way this one felt. I thought it felt great. I've only played 2 of the Sterling Mariposa models but a friend of mine has the full Music Man version and this wasn't a million miles apart - he also played this same Sterling one and agreed with me. Perhaps you had a bad experience with one, maybe give one a second chance if you get the opportunity.
