  • Chopin’s broken engagement to Maria Wodzińska was his first major heartbreak. Though the blow might’ve been softened if only her family had been more straightforward with their intentions…

      Okay before anything. The ending caught me off guard with that portrait of Big Beet.
      One: I did tear up, the whole story was very heart wrenching and I really did feel horrible for him.
      Two: You did an amazing job with this. Commentary is amazing, transitions are superb. All i want to say is, your time and effort payed off, this is fucking amazing.
      Still can’t believe how horrible Chopins life traversed through. His music may convey emotions of all types but his stories really reach to the heart of man..

    before having seen the video, i just want to share this amazing coincidence. I had no idea when the video was going to be uploaded, and i was sitting by my piano as always by this time. I was specifically playing Chopin’s Nocturne in B major op 32. no.1, when a notification popped on my screen, my phone being nearby. I usually don’t look, but i did, and it was about you uploading this video. I had such a strange feeling because, the nocturne i was playing, is said to be about Maria Wodzinska, about how a beautiful promise of love was abruptly ended, and how it affected Chopin for the rest of his life. If you listen to the nocturne, composed in 1837 so around the breakup, you will perfectly understand how it matches with this whole story. Anyway, knowing the video subject beforehand and me seeing the notification while playing this nocturne was such a coincidence.

  • @jin_cotl
    @jin_cotl Před 6 měsíci +8

    Wow. What a watch. The betrayal he felt from the family, that he could’ve marry into, is something I really connected with and understand. I had experienced something similar as well. I used to love this thing fervently, and yet, I couldn’t continue pursuing the passion I used to enjoy, because I was betrayed by certain people, and I couldn’t continue on without feeling bitterness.
    Nothing else filled that void, and certain topics brings me back to the bitter times; it may have been like that for Chopin, despite finding a lover after Maria. Maybe he also felt incomplete and unfulfilled inside even after marrying. And when they argued, he may have been reminded about Maria and felt sad. Poor chap.
    I don’t want to make assumptions about how he felt or how he processed grief, but my heart goes out to the composer. I offer my deepest condolences.

    The part where Chopin played in front of the two Russian nationals was stomach-churning for me.

    I can only imagine what that must feel like. A relationship in the making for a long time, slowly drifting away to nothingness. I've had a few emotional losses in my life, but they were quick to both onset and recovery(at least, quick in comparison to Chopin's heartbreak). 2 lost pets, a cat and a dog, and a lost "friend" who saw me as more than just a friend, when I was only wanting a friendship at that point. And that mixed relationship was with a guy, of course. He kept asking me, pulling me towards intimacy and I was like "Can we just be friends first?" out of discomfort cause I'm not one to just fall for romance, I need a strong friendship bond before I even consider it. And he would reply to me "Okay", but as I would come to find out a couple months later, it was never genuine.
    Fast forward a month and this guy I had been having daily calls with did not come to the reunion with me and my other friends like he said he would. Something was off. Another month goes by and he came to the reunion, but then the next day, on our call, he told me that I did something that I *knew* I didn't do and I ended the friendship right then and there out of anger cause I do not tolerate lies very well. The next day, I was crying in my sleep. This was my first ever significant bond besides family and pets, so the loss really hit me hard. I was sad the whole day. By the next month, I had mostly recovered emotionally. But I would not pursue any sort of closer friendship for a few years, I was back into the acquaintance zone that I had been in for most of my life.
    A few years later, in 2023, I start feeling sad again, but of a different sort of sadness, it wasn't the grieving type sadness that I had before, nor was it a monthly mood swing, nor was it just everyday upsetness, it was loneliness, the sadness over me not having any strong friendships. In the same year, I started getting these motherhood dreams where I was taking care of kids. It's like I was getting a signal that I need to do something to further my life beyond just myself and my family and hobbies. A signal that I'm too isolated socially, that being with my mom and dad and brother everyday was no longer sufficient. I would only start trying to ease this loneliness when the year was almost over, cause a) I wanted to be absolutely sure this wasn't something that would go away on its own and b) I had a hard time figuring out how exactly to phrase it to my mom.
    As of now, I'm still lonely, I still don't have any close friendships. But I'm trying. I'm looking for groups related to my interests, I'm talking to people, all in the efforts of trying to forge close friendships and build my support net to sufficient levels before I start pursuing any sort of romance. So I can simultaneously sort of relate and not relate to Chopin's situation you describe in the video.

    good fairy tale. Chopin was gay. he was the most sought after man in Europe but he never had a physical relationship with any woman. he had a psydo cover relationship with Georges Sand. Sand states in her writings that there wasn't a physical relationship between them, she was a mother to him. Sands had several relations with heterosexual men while she was in a supposed relationship with Chopin. Chopin never had a physical relationship with any woman, but professed his love for a Polish childhood friend, Tytus Woyciechowski. this love letter has been hushed up because people are offended at the thought Chopin was gay. you can read the letter in any book containing Chopin's letters. Chopin was well aware that being gay would have been a death sentence- even for a famous person. Oscar Wilde was put in prison for 2 years for being gay- it didn't matter how famous you were.

    The family was right. Chopin would make a lousy husband for their daughter. He was of feeble health and, as is hypothesized today, suffering cystic fibrosis, a condition that made him infertile and sickly, also doomed to die by 40, which he did! Although reasonably affluent, he was not rich, and might not have been able to maintain their daughter in the style she was accustomed to. He suffered financial difficulties towards the end of his life when his productivity crashed.

      Did he die of CF? I thought it was TB

      @@Isuzu81 He never infected anyone with TB, not even George Sand with whom he slept, but had no offspring (a CF symptom). He may have contracted tuberculosis in the last year or two of his life, but his health had hugely deteriorated already, so the TB would have been the last straw. Back then CF was unknown as a condition and was commonly diagnosed as TB. It was recognized as a different condition in 1936 only, I think.

      @@zdzislawmeglicki2262 I can't imagine the songs we would have had if he had lived to 80. Perhaps one day AI can extrapolate on his talent and provide us with an estimate in posthumous manuscripts of the genius we were cheated out of by his malady.

      @@Isuzu81 Late Chopin was less melodic, more structural, more contrapuntal, and harmonically complex. Examples to listen to are the Cello Sonata, and the two unusual nocturnes op. 48.

  • @PJGRAND
    @PJGRAND Před 5 měsíci

    This 2 week production is very out of date we know now that Chopin was gay because we found all his love letters to men a gay man can be close to women but the real reason why it was heartbreaking was that Chopin was gay and he never wanted to marry any woman also the woman that played the biggest role in his life is George Sand but the relationship was an abusive one and the reason why Chopin was so sick it's because he was suffering from tuberculosis he got around :32 and died at age 39 false biographies like this make me and the rest of the lgbtq community very angry trying to write us out of existence and also it doesn't tell the real story story what about talking about how Chopin was was suffering over hiding being gay? The true story is way more interesting and relatable

      Probably a troll - no reputable historical sources claim Chopin was gay. Some gays want to claim all sorts of famous men as being gay. Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves?
