@@ToikaThatOneFrenchGuy Rock Smash is Down B *only* in Smash 4, but not Brawl.
In Brawl, Charizard does not have Flare Blitz at all. Rock Smash is his Side B, and Down B turns him into an ACTUALLY Super Busted character.
ivysaur im pretty sure is decent in PM, like not a top tier or anything but definitly has tools
@@curiosityman3704 That Melee Marth grab range on Squirtle, and with a kill throw LMAO. A top tier kit extremely ruined by fatigue and to a lesser but still noteworthy extent by forced switches. R.I.P.
@@TeeKayDee Fatigue admittedly affected Squirtle the least of the 3 just because he's he somehow is still decent even with Fatigue.

Bad recovery, poor damage, fire weakness and awful frame data. He has only one good move (Up air) and that's it.
Literally he’s bad because there is 1 good move and everything else is bad
yeah but olimar has good moves and the best grab in the game while ivysaur has bad moves and the best nothing in the game :(
Olimar's is way better. I'd say olimar has a better recovery than falco even though falco has two recovery moves. Olimar's up-b acts a little like yoshi's up-b in terms of giving him height, and he has purple pikmin and whistle that protect him tremendously while recovering. He still is easier than average to gimp in a game where 70% of the cast is easy to gimp but he's way better than ivysaur.
I think olimar is overrated

Damn, hearing them talk about the low tiers makes me realize how amazing Ultimate's balance is.
It really is very good. Bottom tier in Ultimate is you just have to play extra careful and you can still win. But bottom tier in Melee and Brawl is borderline unusable.
"We are Nintendo and we spent so much loving time balancing our characters to make sure playing with any of them is a really fun time but we spent so much time doing so that we can't write the functional netcode you need to have the fun, even a year after release"

I like brawl. For as weird as it was, there was so much weird tech for each character that was discovered. It was janky but it made it unique and I like it
Describing all of this makes me feel like low tier Brawl tournaments would be incredible to watch with all this insane jank. I'd donate to see it at the eventual crossover summit with a prize pool.
Low/mid tier tournaments happened all the time. They were the most enjoyable ones for me.

probably way more infinites, smaller stagelist, ice climbers is the best character in the game and meta knight loses some of that reputation

@@fissilewhistle Nah, Melee is actually a lot more stable than a lot of people think. Sure, there were outliers like the ceiling glitch, wobbling, and Link's nair, but in the majority of matches, nothing out of the ordinary would happen. Brawl on the other hand had so much jank that would always be in play, such as tripping, jab cancelling, hitstun cancelling, momentum cancelling, infinite regrabs against Ness and Lucas, grab release combos, infinite jab locks, and more. Not to mention how Brawl's low tiers were much worse by comparison than any other game's low tiers.
Luigi Linguine Melee’s entire competitive scene is based around glitches. Things like tripping and jab canceling were not glitches nor were they unintended (Sakurai specifically states that tripping was entirely intended). As for Brawl’s low tiers, they were sorry to be sure, but let’s not pretend like characters like Roy, Kirby, and Bowser were that much better in Melee.
I used to try using Ivysaur in Brawl
let's just say his usefulness doesn't extend beyond subspace
The worst character in smash history is link in 64, imagine little Mac but within a worse ground game, NO recovery, and all of that for a projectile trade off
Dont forget the overal sluggish moveset

Back when I played Project M pretty regularly, I would do fast fall quick arrows to see if Link could use it as an equivalent to sh falco lasers. It of course wasn't as good, but I liked being able to do it since in PM Link's shield would stay on his arms when he fired a quick arrow. I gotta pick up P+ and see if I can still do that.

All I found out about this is that brawl would have actually been fun to watch if every player had the random tech skill of salem
My favourite part was the collection of old clips featuring some retired and inactive top Brawl players.
I felt both nostalgic and attacked in account of my age.
I also like how some of these clips are actually recent.

The Flying Ganondorf glitch makes sense canonically, actually. Ganondorf gets made more true to his canon appearance by a glitch.

im glad u are talking abuot Brawl because it is my favorite childhood game but its ignored in competitve eyes nowadays, and since it came out a little bit before CZcams, there is not a lot of information on it.
You can find tones of Old and New Competitive Brawl related videos, but they usually don't have nearly as many views as other games do.

This game had no place in a competitive setting, but damn was it fun. All the tech and bs, honestly felt 10 times more rewarding to learn the game's intricacies than to learn how to space back air in 4 and Ultimate
honestly this game is more fun competitivly then smash 4 was imo, it just felt more crisp and that characters generally had better tools

Characters had so much little stuff it took awhile to master them and learn to fight them. Meanwhile Smash 4 boiled down to, do you have grab combos? Your mid tier or higher. Oh Could was released? Why play anyone else.

This video is incredibly informative and interesting but I'm disappointed that you didn't really delve into matchups at all. From what I understand Brawl was extremely top heavy and most characters placement on the tier list had to do primarily with how well they dealt with Meta Knight and a select few other top tiers like ICs and Olimar. Right? Idk.
I think since brawl is a dead game they're not taking the meta in consideration, just how objectively everyone plays out

We did specifically mention Ganon against Meta Knight and said that's why he was placed above the others in that tier. And his combos against Olimar. We definitely covered match up specific things across the list!

Wow I really enjoyed playing Ivy back in the day. Granted it was super casual with my brother and friends, but he was my favorite of the pokemon trainer pokemon
Seeing all these glitch techs makes me kind of sad none of this exists in ultimate, but at the same time I am also glad its a balanced game.

Not entirely. There are characters that have actually decent to almost good match ups against Meta Knight, but then their match ups against OTHER Top Tiers & High Tiers are GARBAGE, causing them to not be as good.

As a shiek main in brawl the only time I ever switched to Zelda was to actually ko people then I'd switch straight back.

i think meta knight would have been fine if he got nerfed, because at the top level, he required skill to compete. Now Ice Climbers, that was a toxic character.

First of all, I really enjoy you guys are covering Brawl. It was my first competitive Smash game, and it's the one I remember most fondly.
Then there's the thing about Yoshi. You put a clip of Zudenka as the very first clip, who's the single most entertaining Yoshi. I think he was the only one that really brought out his potential, but he never got around to traveling much. What you're describing are players like Poltergust and Delta-cod, whom aren't necessarily the peak of Yoshi play. Delta-cod especially didn't mind timing people out, or like you saw agaisnt NAKAT, where he wouldn't mind waiting to 200 to kill a Fox. Most Yoshi players never really got around to perfecting the stuff he could do with DJEC (Double Jump Egg Lay Cancel) or Draconic Reverse (a pseudo wavedash mechanic, very technical). There's a chance a couple of characters went unexploited with the kind of technical mechanics Brawl had, like Bowser's theorethical infinite and even DDD's (against some characters).
So in otherwards, once again Mew2King's words hold value here in the sense that there's always things we SHOULD be doing that we actually aren't doing.

Pretty interesting tier list, only thing I disagree with is down b being a plus for any character because you can just not pick them from the start. Even the worst moves in the game are more useful than down b because they aren't pointless.
