      Thanks, wish we could have bought this set but alas, consignment for an estate. Of course it would have disappeared into the black hole that is my collection, not to see the light of day again til my estate is in probate! But it was nice to hold history in my hand, as you could tell by the way I was blown away by the collection!

    This is so amazing. One of my life goals is to build a near complete set like this. I've got around 15 of the T206 cards so I still have a long way to go.

      Thanks! I am slowly working on one too- very very slowly (like two cards a year slow)- the tip I'd give- if you find them in the wild (estate sale etc)- don't fret condition. I figure I'm never going to have a PSA 8 set so any card in any condition as long as not overpriced is better than no card! Was at an estate sale a couple of years ago- they had the cards priced high but it was half off day so reasonable- and I went to the estate sale guy and said how much if I took all five- got them for about 70% of guide by bundling. Hit the pocketbook a bit but on the other side, when else am I going to see them?

    This stuff amazes me everytime I see a card from 1909-1911 would be so sick to collect these. haha but don't think I have near the bankroll for this :'(

      Agree completely- that set is incredible. And honestly, condition doesn't matter (I mean obviously it does but very few people can even think of a high grade set). I pick up about two to three a year in my travels or from Mr-Magazine and deals he gets. At this rate, I'll have the set completed....in about 150 years! But you are holding history in your hands which is amazing.

    Is a photocopy be worth anything... If it's off the original card ..the one with ink stamped on the back ...sweet Caporal factory no.25. 29 DIST.VA.

    I had a question on a drum back Walter Johnson (350). Do they know how many of those are known to exist? I was arguing with a friend and I believed those were as or more rare than a Wagner. Are you familiar with the Drum back Johnson?

    • @TheMillionDollarPeddlers
      @TheMillionDollarPeddlers  Před rokem +1

      Super rare- back in 2010 REA sold one for almost 40k- and that was way before the booms- super low population at the grading services too. Just don't have the cachet of the Wagner which has been the face of the hobby forever if that makes sense.

    • @buckstarhymes
      @buckstarhymes Před rokem

      @@TheMillionDollarPeddlers WOW! Thanks for the quick response! Someone just told me that there were only 250-400 Drum back cards in general known to exist. Does that sound right?

    • @TheMillionDollarPeddlers
      @TheMillionDollarPeddlers  Před rokem +1

      @@buckstarhymes I think that might be a little low as if two Walter Johson's are graded- some of the other players might not have been graded by the old timers who didn't worry so much about it- but I would bet all in, under 1000 across all players exist (known and unknown if that makes sense- in other words let's say I have one in my collection but never paid attention, that would be part of the ultimate population). But as the old-timers have their collections come back into the hobby, the cards will definitely get graded. Will be interesting to watch to see if the numbers creep up over time- could be some big collector with a "hoard" of them- like maybe been buying them as he sees them ungraded and has since the 1970s- he might have 100 backs himself- there are lots of weird little things like that which exist and no one knows! What was the one card- someone tried to buy everyone of them- it's some 1950s card- if I remember the story right, it was a relative and they just bought every one and never sold so that card is scarcer than the others from the same year. Wish I could remember more but I did read that story fifteen years ago. Who knows what's going on out there! People have their own little collections that they amuse themselves with!

      @@TheMillionDollarPeddlers You're absolutely dead on there! It could all be about the timing of when you sell an item. If there's only 2 known in the space the price would be way higher than if there were 200. Ain't supply and demand great?? hahaha. As Ronald Reagan always said, trust in the magic of the market place. To go along with your point, I have a few Drum cards that I'll be looking to get graded that nobody knows I have. So there's 3 more added to the 250-400.

      @@buckstarhymes And one of these days I'll check my collection. I bought back in the late 80s and early 90s and there wasn't as much emphasis on backs- doubt I have any but who knows.

      Oh wow, thanks for counting! I've been collecting for a long time and 30+ years ago, backs weren't as important as they are now. One of these days I'll pull out my own collection and see if I have any rare backs. Probably a few I would guess! Thanks for the comment.
