    Update: Made a new version of the ROTO Tool for DaVinci Resolve Studio users, it's the one next to the free version that says "Studio" on it. It's mostly the same, but minus the Resize function that was messing up the original. Let me know if anyone has issues with it.

    • @CBSuper
      @CBSuper  Před 4 lety

      Noted! There is a similar tool, but not really. You can use the Roto Assist tool to snap to predictive pixels, but I dont really use it. But I can make a video on it. As for Matte Control, its a node that allows for more control of alpha channels, i use it in Green Screen stuff and occasionally for masking. But i tend to make my own tools to fit my needs. I don't always need the spill suppression and dont like the work arounds for the matte control in roto situations.

The CPU and GPU drop back down to a normal idle level. I can navigate etc. But I cant restart the mask processing without exiting Davinchi and starting it again.
      What Im attempting to do is fix some bad lighting. Overall the lighting is good but she sat too close to a wall and there are patches that are too bright, not sure I think it might be called a light flare. Its not a bright spot its a bright area. I tried a fusion mask which worked both on the patch on the wall and also a mask around her head ' shoulders but it was too straight lineish and looked obvious. Ive never got majic mask to work but it does create a nice natural shape mask so thought Id give it another try
      . Im keeping it simple a single clip, a single node, no other tweaks. Select, person, do a single stroke, do not make any changes. It defaults to faster. I've tried run fwd from the beg and also run back from the end.
      I'm very low skilled at this, I used to use KdenLive but that wont run ( easily ) on a Mac. and now my powerful linux box is a live web / db server.

      An observation: When using a 7min clip ( my test clip). CPU about 30-40%, GPU about 70%, Mem 25G. When processing short clips. CPU & GPU about the same Mem about 7G.... All other factors being the same. It suggests it might be attempting to process the entire clip as a monolithic lump. If it is is then any jnr programmer should spot the problem. i.e. there is a finite size based on Mem. I hope they are smarter than that. Sure, roto assist just helps snap your mask to predictive pixels. Its the roto equivalent of using Auto-Focus on a Cinema camera during a talking head shot interview. I wouldn't use it, but its nice to have the option. I'll try and put out a quick tips video on it.

      @@CBSuper I've tried and not had any success with getting it to work, I've not read anyone else having better results. i could imagine it being useful to mask complex shapes such as hair. i see the suggestion of poly lines but nothing makes them stick... so yes, I'm sure you would be the first to produce a how-to

    • @CBSuper
      @CBSuper  Před 4 lety +1

      Mark hair is tough. You usually try to key out hair if possible, but if roto is needed, polygon node is your best bet. But ideally fusion would use a tapered poly, which is not an option in the current tool set. There are fuses that do this, but it would be nice to have this function.

    Hi , As you appear to know all things Davinchi, are Black Magic still going ?
    I have the paid for version and sent in 3 support requests in 6 months and dont even get a response.
    I know you are not Black Magic or connected to them but from some of your videos you do seem to have your finger on the pulse.
    There reluctance to properly support Linux is an issue for me but I can use Mac which it what I am doing.
    I'm now actively learning Blender as a backup plan in case BM have lost interest in the small guy.
    If
    anyone can offer any insight that would be gratefully received. I'm not

      I think there are some workarounds for some of the versions of Linux, but its much easier on Mac/Windows. They are still working on Resolve, but I don’t think Linux is high on their list. The BlackMagic official forums are a great place to find info on that topic. I personally havent tried to run it on Linux, but I believe Johns Films does.

      @@CBSuper Hi, Thank You for taking the time to reply. As always your very kind. Sorry, Im English, I say thank you and apologize a lot :)
      The tickets were not actually linux related they were more main stream which I guess would apply to MS,
      I tired MS for a while but Win10 did not like my motherboard and crashed every 10 to 15 mins.
      They apply to my Mac and I guess Linux. For those interested in Linux, feel free to contact me. There are some hacks which can bend Resolve / Studio into a Debain i.e Ubuntu, Mint etc but they are hacks and need a lot of lets say massaging to get fully working. The original was written for CentOs, which comes from the Red Hat stream. CentOs had the plug pulled and is no longer supported, there are old releases still available. I have tried Studio on it and although its claimed it was designed for CentOs , it has its usual hissy fit if you dont have the right Graphics Drivers.
      Also , please do not make the mistake of buying an AMD card. I have an expensive one and both Resolve & Studio cant handle it. I have to use a lower Nvidia card which I have if I want to use Davinchi even them its temperamental. If your thinking of linux and Resolve / Studio do a lot of Googles to make sure you do not waste potentially a lot of money.
      As an aside, if I have the mid end P6000 Quadro plugged in and my RX580 AMD it seems ok with that and somehow the os ( its a long time since I worked on kernel design so Imout of date) does use both. So you do benefit.
      As if anyone is interested in Linux, feel free to contact me if you need any help, I'm happy to try and help if I can.

    • @CBSuper
      @CBSuper  Před 2 lety

      That would be roto or keying. Roto is just like it did it in this video, except you would make smaller masks around body parts that don't change very much. Then keyframe the mask as it moves. Over and Over and over. Very tedious and time consuming. The other option is to key out your subject from his background, but only if the background is conducive to pulling a good key. If its on a solid color background that is different than your foreground subject, that will be ideal. Similar to Green Screen keying. Then just plop the cut out foreground subject onto a background of your choosing. Oversimplified, but about as much as I can fit into a comments section.
