Not sure why you are having such a hard time sliding the guide in the rails. The fence is flimsy and needs to be held down with your free hand to keep it in place. I was able to make what I thought was some pretty good builds for my railway using the Proxon. After a year I was pretty happy with it and knew I would continue using it. So I invested in a better fence and some shingle cutting templates.
This cutter is completely useless, as the fence is only fixed at one end, the other end which becomes sloppy as you slide. You will never get perfect cut

The cutter itself is fine, when holding the fence in place by hand, it wire cuts well. However, the original fence could be improved yes.
