    So is the F0 portion still active? Just the F1 portion of ATP synthase inactive. Or do uncouplers just create a pore through the inner matrix that allows the protons to escape?

    Hello, I tried this out by eating saturated fat + alcohol, now I am very hot. This uncoupling works, thanks. No longer need jacket in winter/snow.
    It seems palmitate is excellent uncoupling agent. Heavy cream as drink instead of water gives me plenty ATP.

    • @animatedbiologywitharpan
      @animatedbiologywitharpan  Před rokem

      An uncoupling protein is thus capable of dissipating the proton gradient generated by NADH-powered pumping of protons from the mitochondrial matrix to the mitochondrial intermembrane space. The energy lost in dissipating the proton gradient via UCPs is not used to do biochemical work. Instead, it's converted to thermal energy.
