- Philosophy is meant for action. Today we think of philosophers as do-nothings at Harvard and Cambridge, but the Stoic philosophers were mostly men of action. That's what I've learned in my time reading Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus, as well as the work of Ryan Holiday of The Daily Stoic.
In this video, I'll explain one of the fatal flaws of the Jedi Order, and connect that to Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, and the Hobbits of the Shire. I'll explain a personal life update, which is that I'm running for office in my town in Virginia. Philosophy is for living. That's what Geeky Stoics is all about.

I don’t know where you lay politically. I’m from Virginia, and it’s good to see the people of the internet finally getting involved. It is doubly good that it is the stoics.
gotta be in the arena! appreciate you saying that
The Bible was sitting right next to him. He’s a republican
Great video. I too, having been feeling called to go out into the world and carry the truth with me. I've been isolating away from everything and everyone for years and am struggling with the idea of going back out into the messy world. No wonder I seek the stoics.
Glad this struck a familiar note for you
I'm not a fan of the ST, I have never hid that. Largely due to the fact there *are* so many excellent ideas and scenes that are thrown in seemingly without any true desire to expand upon or to use as an attempt to look 'deep'. The scene you referenced is great, period. I admire your ability to take and apply this scene and other aspects of the ST to your life is impressive. Another great video!
its its an interesting scene isnt it?? I am a big fan of searching for the value in those movies, even when I would rather not lol.
I remember being 13 years old listening to the Commentary Track on the Revenge of the Sith DVD and Lucas talking about the fall of democracy. At the time I did not know that was a thing that could happen….
I became a lawyer in part inspired by that.
You are aware the Star Wars prequels and original trilogy is socialist messaging right? Darth vader and Palpatine were based on Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. The prequels where about bush administration and the OT was the Vietnam war. The empire was America and the rebels where Vietnamese communists
Tears were forming in my eyes by the end of the video. That’s how beautiful it was as well as Stoicism in general
wow....so glad you liked it that much. Means a lot!
The best kept secret in America is the influence people can have in their hown town or city by involving yourself in local politics. Even showing up and speaking at local city council meetings can make a big difference
Just as a Jedi is more than his Code or a pile of old books, and Luke more than his anxieties about the past or the future, we are more than the thoughts, feelings and desires we experience throughout the 24 hours of every day.
Whether it be a Jedi, Luke Skywalker, Bilbo or Frodo Baggins or even ourselves, a human being is the power and the will to shape the outcome of events, and the discipline to use that power wisely.
Remember that as you fight for your home, and may God be with you!
I'll need it, thank you for that.
Best of luck from Harpers Ferry, WV
hey cheers!
I'd vote for you
Maybe your campaign slogan could be "I love democracy..." 😜
I'd vote for you! Best of luck.
