@@scuunjieng Truly a privilege to hear from someone who is not involved in politics or has to be careful because of possible retribution. I'm a member of Brother Bo Sanchez wealth club & we too get some insights from Edward Lee of COL Financial. Hope to one day meet you in person Sir. Happy Holidays

In the name of public service, ANC management please find a way to accommodate Sir Cuunjieng for at least 1 hour of airtime once a month I think that’s not too much to ask and give your viewers what they want. Listening to him is so worth it.
many thanks for the kind words
Exactly.

Always not enough time, we need at least 1 hour discussions with Sir Stephen! His thoughts and insights are always good nourishment for the mind.
Many thanks
"I don't think I have the patience to be in government." -- This made my day. :) Please make Stephen as your regular guest in ANC. I like his thought process.
Many thanks
This guy Cuunjeng explains it so well. That's the kind who deservedly called "Prof"!
Many thanks
Best explainer on the Maharlika Fund and our demographic dividend delusion. Thanks Sir @scuunjieng and ANC. Sound and pragmatic analysis.
many thanks
Been waiting for this since the start of the week. I just hope that our lawmakers and cabinet officials are taking notes from this. We almost have no reason to fail when have good sources of knowledge like this.
Many thanks
Probably most of those making noise haven't really done their research andstudied the pros and cons of a sovereign fund. They only have a superficial or surface knowledge of it.
A person with legit knowledge and perhaps experience and expertise in investment aspect. High caliber guest speaker.
Many thanks
Most of our Current Policy Makers are bunch of know it all. If I was PBBM, I would hire this person " Name your Price Approach for the sake of Pilipinos...
The most lucid, thoughtful, and contextualized analysis on the matter thus far. Always a pleasure listening to your insights.
Many thanks
When anti gov't and pro gov't present their own agenda, there is Cuunjieng in the middle. Even a person who is not versed in Law can understand his explanation. He always has a balanced viewpoint on every topic.
I try my best to be fact and logic driven rather than personality based or tribal. Happy you appreciate that.
Thanks to Stephen for sharing his expertise on this issue. I always look forward to watching this program every month.
Market Edge, thank you for guesting an expert about these funds! I wish he can go to congress and lecture those intelligent guys(romualdez, marcos, salceda) who are authoring this- their fund from contributions of working pinoys!

Stephen's view is like a buffet of knowledge. It is delish. Thank you!
deeply appreciated
I look up to this guy. Always analytic, truthful and pragmatic.

@@scuunjieng good evening sir,i just hope that you still have the enthusiasm in dealing what the present admin will give for 6 years.stay safe po
Awesome explanation. It shows that we still have to learn. These are infos that are not easy to understand, but Stephen explains it as easy as eating peanuts. This issue is really complicated , and we need to expand our knowledge about economic development and investment.

Always always never enough time with Stevie😉. Please ANC, we need his expertise… give him more time🤗.

Cons for the common ordinary average citizens. 😩

I totally agree with your guest. Am afraid the proposed fund will just fund the extravagant compensation of so-called experts who will managed the proposed fund.

Refreshing insights...first time hearing him 👌

Very informative and pragmatic.

Consider these:
(1) The fund was proposed by three lawmakers related to Marcos Jnr - his cousin, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, his cousin’s wife Yedda Marie Romualdez, and his eldest son Ferdinand “Sandro” Alexander Marcos.
(2) There is a very particular section in the legislation that barred lower courts from stopping the fund’s investments, leaving that power only to the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals.
(3) What can stop Marcos from injecting his ill-gotten wealth by participating in the Maharlika [Fund]? Is there a possibility that this proposed fund serves as a money-laundering channel?
(4) Under the bill, which would create the Maharlika Investments Corporation, its board would have the power to “approve the issuance of debt and debt-like instruments”. No restriction is imposed on who the buyers are. That's right, anybody could be a buyer, including you know who?
(5) What would the Maharlika fund be able to do that the SSS, GSIS, DBP, and LB are not already doing?
However, such a fund is not risk-free, and it boils down to how good the fund manager is. It could also fail if transparency, controls, checks, and balances are not established.
Stevie Cunjieng has the knowledge to stem the tide of the toxic Filipino culture of corruption. Mimi on your question, "Can the government afford Stevie Cuunjieng?" Maybe not, so let's crowd-fund Stevie and bring him up front and center. 🎯🎯🎯
Many thanks but I don’t think I am best suited to govt work
angaw nga niya eh, and he is honest enough to say that this is a specific field of expertise, kaya doubtful siya na may taong qualified to manage this.
Awesome info.

True they should do that as some people are hoping for.

The President doesn't seem to know but just a spokesperson for goals - broad as they are, difficult to fathom. Does he know what is needed and the risks involved? Good explanation fr Stephen!

Great interview. There should also be a tagalog version of this so that more can understand. The points made about the demographic nightmare is true. Too much Filipinos with very low productivity domestically

Ganito na lang, lahat ng politiko sa Pinas. Bawasan ng ten percent yung salary. Yung author at co author ng bill twenty percent. Tapos yun gamitin nilang start funds. Gawin nila sa buong term nila. Sigurado babantayan nila yan. After ten years saka nila invite mga pension fund .
too good to be true yang proposal nina salceda...sweet talks as if investing is as smooth as butter.
Philippine labor law is not friendly to manufacturers and also the energy is not stable.
We are babes in the woods on this and they want the bill to be approved in 2-3 weeks! Risk management please and tell the story of losses and gains!
If this government failed to restore the robust national economy then the more it's not deserving to set up a Centralized Government entities like Maharlika Sovereign wealth funds.
Maharliks nga problema don't simplify a complex problems.wete not even a graduate of economocs to ha better understanding
As always, kulang! I don't always agree with him, but his opinion is always valuable.

Mining company why taxes is very low Its time for the country to be benefitted by increasing its taxes to raise more funds. Natural resources are dwindling with very low government revenues. Seemingly no one from our lawmakers touching this issue?
I nominate Stevie Cuunjieng to manage this sovereign wealth fund.
In the Philippines where political corruption is a problem, wealth funds can be used as a slush fund for nepotism by awarding loans and equity investments, and high-fee management contracts to allies and family. More blatantly, flat embezzlement of sovereign wealth for the personal use of corrupt leaders who control the funds, often not revealed until long after it happens, is not uncommon.
Stevie Cuunjieng is more than qualified to stem the tide of corruption and make us all rich and prosperous. 💰💰💰
Many thanks
ayaw nga niya eh
Good data

THIS IS NOT THE BEST OF TIME TO RISK PEOPLE'S MONEY. On-going pandemic. War. Climate change. Geopolitical tensions. Food shortages. Shore up local resources first, remove deficit spending, and fight corruption. Then we'll go invest our surplus funds, if any.
By the way Stephen explained it Maharlika is likely to fail if we just follow the whims of the current government.
Sir Steve, government must first add more renewable energy sources, to bring down the cost of power. No manufacturing can survive otherwise
Maybe there is some politics sportmanship going on. Shoot big so that the negotiations can dwindle it down but ultimately it can pass through when everyone is happy.
Very interesting insight about demographic dividend. In Canada the government is proposing a 500k invitation for immigrants. Not counting the people who were here already this proposal will add workers and taxation that will add to the system. Because of the strenous cost living and competition here they may decide to stay or leave the country whereas in the Philippines the government itself pushes its citizen to migrate. So where will be the pension fund coming.
did Marcos jr ever run an investment fund? can someone dig out his portfolio performance
I wonder if Salceda know these technicals?
LEARNING😁😁
Many thanks
But Norway is far more different from the Philippines and for us to take high risk now. Economic managers pioneered M I Fund? Tell names Ms Quimbo.
The point here is just invest domestic first. Take care of your own backyard. The government is not serious. They should have consulted experts like Mr. Cuunjieng. Also, there are international investment banks. Our government is good at redundant agencies....
Thanks
If only Sandro Marcos and Romualdez were listening to this, the they wouldnt have to embarrass themselves for their ignorance
how about the Marcoses and the Romualdezes bring back the ill-gotten wealth or the back-taxes they owe the government and put this into either this asset management fund or a sovereign wealth fund, that may even be a good starter
They'll most probably just invest it in quick rich/poor schemes like cryptos thinking bad things will never happen. It's better to invest in good fund manager like Michael Pento but I don't know if he will accept sovereign wealth funds. But frankly I think it's too little too late. It's just much better to invest in gold.
Obviously he made a little research on sovereign funds before he gets to be interviewed. In fact, there is nothing new on what hes saying. But interesting to hear him say private equity fund. global pefs are down at least 40 percent year to date, what about that for quimbo and diokno
al contrary rich nation dont get increase their population..italy, france, japan,
i'd prefer listening to this guy than Prof. Monsod
Many thanks
@@scuunjieng welcome, i like on how you explain things and not blinded by any political views
Why are we even listening to a director of Phoenix which deferred from div payment twice?
Very complex thing but the authors are in a hurry to have it approved. Listen to experts n establishing a fund like this should be studied very well. Ang galing ni sir stephen. After listening to him, it would now appear that the authors of the bjll are short of knowkedge of tge who, the when n thd what of setting up such kind of a fund. Magaral muna sila.
many thanks
The Philippines has badly managed the funds it has. We now want to give more money for them to manage? I would rather see the efforts of this gov go to restricting power of gov officials rather than expanding.
INVEST IN FIRMS contributing to building machine tools! I can't even buy a Laguna-made CNC spindle servo motor, or milling tools made and distributed locally. Never mind PCB pick and place machines. Of MSWF, I'm expecting the "local firms" they'll dump money into instead to be inefficient cronies, and/or people to whom this bunch of 'leaders' owe public office.
Why not offer their general appropriation funds or offer their salaries, sacrifice to our country.
If SSS and GSIS as an asset manager investor...why they interested to invest in Maharlika Investment Fund? Anong meron?
its about time to be above than the rest, bakit sila lang? Make the Philippines Great! to Sovereignty it is!
@@alflo4625 not specifically sa bill but ang ilalagay sa Bill ay to be handled by the CHairman of the board which is Si Marcos Jr. and his Board of directors which is kahit cno pwede maupo lalu na kung ka aalyado. Di yan nlalayo sa mga govt corrupt projects, i award ang prject sa isang contractor na supporter ng admin. ganun din ito un wealth fun i invest sa mga investment ng kaalyado sa private, sa tingin m i invest ba ni MArcos Jr yan kay Cojuangco, Aquino, or Roxas family business hindi. Weather weather sa politika, un form of corruption binabago na
@@alflo4625 ang advantage tlga nito is un hahawak ng pera, ksi i invest un pera sa isa proiyekto ng private so un private wla sya uutangin bagkus gagamitin nya un pera as equity so may share na dito un wealth fund kaso wla mgagawa ang pesnioners kung magkno ang % nila dahil controlled by the investor yan, so kung malugi ang proyekto wlang pnanagutan ang Maharlika bagkus ang mag babayd ng nalugi pera ay tax payers
See all media entities keep on comparing sovereign fund to Temasik without really doing a research that it wasn't even a soveriegn fund. But a private entity. GLad there is someone like this guy who explained it.
