- ABRSM 2023 & 2024 - Grade 6 Piano exam - A:3 Allegro ~ Friedrich Kuhlau
Friedrich Kuhlau was a German-born pianist and composer who settled in Denmark. He studied music in HambLIIg, but when Napoleon invaded the city in 1810, he fled to Copenhagen, where he became well known as a concert pianist and composer of piano and flute music. This Allegro is a pleasing mixture of keyboard brilliance, as in bars 24-29 etc., and cantabile writing in the dolce passages.

TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
ABRSM’s recommended tempo for this piece is between 120 bpm and this piece is typical of the Classical music style.
Playing legato throughout is advisable and be aware that the left hand Alberti bass figure (at Bars 1-6, 17-20, 32-38, 50-55 and 66-69) is only supplying the accompaniment to the melody, so be careful to not allow the left hand part to sound louder than the right hand part. In the opening bars, it might be a good idea to think of the left hand part as pp and the right hand part as mp when practising in order to achieve this.
With regards to the scale runs which occur later in the left hand part, (bars 41-44) be careful to aim for very evenly played notes - don’t rush these passages too much when practising, unless you are really good at playing left hand scales fast and evenly!
Practising some of these passages with a metronome at a slower tempo could be a good approach once you know the notes well enough.
Dynamics are straightforward.
love the written notes- very helpful
tysm this is so helpful i just need to practise a little bit more with this notes to do my grade 6 exam!
Thanks for these notes they are really helpful!
nice!
being a left handed person is torture for this. the left hand scales feel too easy but the g major scale with the right hand is really hard
I got distinction for grade 6 piano because of you
😊😊😊😊😊
ima break my chain of doing a piece titled “Allegro” for every grade lol
But I’m still listening XD
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO😢
I skipped grade one cuz it had no allegro!
Literally every piano and violin grade has a piece name allegro and giga I swear
Ikr

After learning this just after learning Mozart Piano Sonata No.16 in C Major, they are hilariously similar
It's the same piece 🙄
SAMEE I know how to play Sonata in C major and now i'm learning this piece for my grade 6 exam
Thats what i was thinking omg
Got so confused at the beginning, thought it was the mozart sonata.
no it isn't???@@talithawilliamson
The colours are so nice

I was learning this for my piano and this helped this so much thanks !
So good 👍👍👍😀
Amazing
Great
Great playing dude!😎😎😎🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍
how are you sure its a dude😂
you are the best that i see of all to play this song
any tips on how to play the very fast bits, i always struggle with playing them 😭
i might be too late but what works for me is playing at a super slow pace, and finding the fingering that flows the best for me. Then using a metronome super slowly and playing it 4 times in a row. Once i can do it clean 4 times in a row i’ll speed up the metronome slowly until i can play it smoothly at full speed. I know it kinda goes without saying to do it slowly first but i find myself getting impatient and trying to rush it at full pace too soon and it doesn’t sound clean enough. So yeah do it painfully slowly and speed up a little bit until u can do it
Great🎉
In bar 19 there is a mistake in your book instead of A D E C it’s actually A D E D the old books are wrong they probably fixed it.😊
Yea
👍👍👍
Am i the only one getting theme and 3 variations vibe from this
it helped me alot!thank!❤❤
You’re most welcome and thanks for watching! 😁🙏
What other tempos can I use besides 120 bpm?
In bar 19 in the second group of 4 quavers the last two notes are e then d followed by a minim d( what i can see from my gr6 book) whereas in the vid he played a c instead of d. Otherwise amazing vid and it helped me alot
Pov:The grade 6 piece is easier than the grade 5 piece
I don’t think it is:(
@@X_X10932 o
@@ChocolateSo0819 imo the beginning to middle is easier than grade 5 but the fast part is so hard
true
I felt it is. Grade 5 (21-22) took me 2 or 3 months to complete, 1 earliest.
This song, I completed by 2 weeks.
I’m playing this for grade 6 rn😂
Nice playing
Thanks!
Did you use pedal??

fr
Lmao yh
Agreed sounds quite similar
Yea
Yes
I mean how did this piece get squeezed into grade 6. feel this is like grade 3. easier every year with abrsm
The grades are getting easier but this is not grade 3 at all.
this is not like a grade 3 piece
I think its like grade 5
Tbh I think it’s bc of the scales and this piece is generally relatively fast
I've been comparing grade levels from my youth in the 50s with these ones and I agree. The levels are much easier to achieve nowadays
Do i need to use pedal?
No, my piano teacher says so
Optional, up to you ig..
No
You can do this thing called “finger pedaling”
It's sound like sonatina op 20 no 1😯
It is sonatina op 20 no 1
Do we need pedal?
nope
Yes, for some bits overvise, it would have a bit more dry sound, but... it's up to interpretation
I learn it in q second🎉🎉
I'm in grade 6 and I did it in grade 5
It sounds like Mozart’s piano sonata no. 6 at the start
sup people🎉
I am grade 3 but I am learning this song😅
Grade 6 is how you play it not you know playing it
I hate the selection of songs in section A mann
Yh they’re all worse than grade 5 2021 & 2022 book. They’re meant to be better
If u say He is bad Then look at yourself first ☠️
