James O'Barr 1 | Diary of a Struggling Comics Artist

FLASHBACK INTERVIEW: Chris Wisnia meets James O'Barr, creator of the Crow, for the first time... back on June 3, 2011! Chris had been compiling Diary interviews for about a year at this point, and his best friend, Anthony Leano, had been witnessing what Chris was up to, even though nothing had been posted yet to the public. Anthony hosts James for a Sacramento comic con, and introduces the two, suggesting that Chris is doing a worthwhile and smart comics project, and James acquiesced to an amazing sharing of his comics career experiences. They do so at Anthony's house, where James (here) discusses the beginnings of his comics career, difficulties finding a publisher for The Crow, quitting the day job, and various idiocies of Hollywood execs he dealt with to get The Crow made into a film! James is so intelligent, entertaining, intense, friggin' hilarious, and profound, Chris found himself enrapt with every word and heartbreaking, amazing story.
