    My biggest mistake was not being semi-freeform from the beginning! Haha if I had to do it all again I would skip the whole year I wasted trying to maintain perfectly manicured parts every two weeks

      Haha! Love it!
      It's hard to trust the process in the beginning though. The feeling that one little mistake will mess it up.
      It was so freeing to be less worried about the parts over time

    The weak areas of your loc’s as you have described them are nothing more than simple maintenance needs. I noticed on my own loc’s, as you showed on yours, places where my locks have stretched and thinned. I use a crochet needle 5 mm, I rough up the thinned frayed ends overlap them about a half an inch and crochet them together until the density feels even and tug on them to be sure they are well connected. By doing this the loc stays consistent with no weak spots and the place where they were joined is no longer detectable. You may need to practice a little to get more consistent with your crocheting and feeling the density. Any locks that have this problem crochet them back together and your hair will look fine! You seem to have the perfect hair for loc’s! I use a three prong 5 mm crochet needle. I find this locks the hair the fastest and the tightest. I learned by watching DXLYN’s videos! she has many videos depicting the very problems you are speaking of with great reparative results! You have a great hair! I hope this is some help to you. Good luck I’ll be watching your videos!

      Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I haven't tried that method yet. I'll check out some of her videos and look at options for repairing locs.
      Yes. I am very thankful that I have hair that locks very easily. Even if I completely destroyed my locs, it's nice to know that they'd lock quicker if I started over. When I really look at my locs, I see the story of me learning more about my hair.
      I wish you the best as you continue your journey. Thank you again for your thoughts

      @@mnotinglife7934 Please do not contemplate starting over. Your hair is not as bad as you may feel that it is. I am Sure that a Loctician can separate and repair your locks and you would never know there has ever been a problem! I locked my own here and I know that I would be able to fix yours but I’m not there. Don’t give up things are not as bad as they seem. Look at those videos by DXLYN just as I did and you will learn how to make the needed repairs yourself for far less money! God bless you I’ll be watching your channel hoping that you took my advice. 🕊

    Please let go of the ends that are dangling for dear life. Getting rid of those obvious damaged dead ends is part of taking care of your hair. I will never understand why people can't bare to get rid of obvious dead ends that are about to fall off. I can only imagine the embarrassment if one broke off in a public setting. You can free form or semi free form by practicing healthy maintenance.

    • @mnotinglife7934
      @mnotinglife7934  Před rokem +7

      While I do not share your perspective, I'm glad if you have a routine that you consider to be healthy for you. I don't consider my locs to be super healthy overall, but do find it important for me to have a healthy scalp.
      Occasionally I cut some broken ends when I feel ready and remember to do so. Knotting my hair has "fixed" some breaks here nd there, but generally i don't worry about it and consider it all a part of my journey.

    Your locs are beautiful! My hair does not loc easy and here in year two I’m attempting to semi free form so that my thin, fine hair can thicken up. I never style my locs except for a loose pony. I have a lot of loose hair, if I don’t twist them around my locs how do the loc? I’m stretching my retwist from 6 weeks to 12 right now… thank you!

    • @mnotinglife7934
      @mnotinglife7934  Před rokem +1

      Thank you!
      It's tricky to say because that depends on your hair type and maintenance. My hair really likes to get all tangled up, so I didnt have many stray hairs at all.
      My sister, however, did. She has a looser curl pattern than me and would wrap the strap hairs around some of the locs at times, but she did not semi-freeform, so I'm not sure how it would have turned out. I know this response isn't ideal. If you find some people online with a similar hair type, it may help to see what they did and how that turned out for them.
      Wishing you the best on your semi-freeform journey!

  • @VidX5

    Great video sista! I am on my second loc journey. I was thinking of not retwisting ever again. What is your take on that sista? They are about 2 weeks old right now. I was thinking of semi-freeforming...yet I am thinking about never retwisting them again.

    • @mnotinglife7934
      @mnotinglife7934  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you!
      It depends on what you want. I chose semi-freeforming because of the look and simplicity of it and I also felt it was healthier for my roots and lifestyle, while considering my hair type. I didnt want to worry about messing up a retwist. I just wanted to feel free.
      I'd recommend thinking about overall what you aim to get out of it, check out some more semi-freeform journeys here, and I'm sure you'll come to a good conclusion.
      I hope this was helpful 😊
      What led you to start a second journey?

      Yeah, I found that coconut oil was not good for my scalp. I feel like it did more harm than good. Castor oil works for me though-i just don't overdo it.
