    Thanks for pointing out Amberdy-bamberdy, looks good for when there's no more Iroshizuku Ina-ho left. My recommendation: Sailor Manyo Nekoyanagi, it's one of those inks that can't decide if it's purple or blue, but in a cool way, like an artistic exploration of that so-blue-it's-purple/so-purple-it's-blue phenomenon.

    Loved some of the recommendations, but noodlers is really hard to get here in Germany and - if you even manage to find it - also quite expensive.
    Diamine is basically the only brand you can find regularly in shops, besides montblanc and Pelikan

    It makes me so happy Drew is such a Nightshade fan! It was my first bottle of ink and to this day I have never bought an ink I love quite as much. May not be the most fancy Noodler's ink but something about the color brings me back to it everytime, it's my daily writer.

    I like the Noodler's inks that I have tried. A while ago, I had ordered Noodler's Liberty's Elysium in a sample vial and like it a lot compared with some of the other blue inks that I have tried. Today, when I ordered my new pen, I also ordered a bottle of this ink. It really is a pretty blue.

  • @jamesaritchie1
    @jamesaritchie1 Před 2 lety +7

    Noodler's inks are mostly great stuff, but seldom my first choice. For pink, I love Iroshizuku Tsutsuji, for orange it's Private Reserve Orange Crush, Purple is Watewrman Tender Purple and De Atramentis Lilac for normal writing, and Rohrer & Klingner Sulferino when I feel like shouting. For green it's impossible to say. I love green ink, and have dozens of shades. Yellow is Buttercup. Gray is without doubt Montblank Wood and Tobacco scent Gray. I don't like blue inks, but I love Noodler's Navaho Turquoise. For a truer blue, the only one I actually love, which I used to hate, is Noodler's Baystate. Brown is a tossup between Waterman Absolute Browen, and Monteverde Canyon Rust. Burgundy is definitely Black Swan in Australian Roses. I love a dozen red inks, but while my solid favorite was Red Dragon, it has switched to Private Reserve Vampire Red.
    I tried Vampire Red because it was Halloween and the name seemed to fit. As soon as I used it for the first time, though, I knew I liked it more than Red Dragon. I don't really have a favorite black fountain pen ink because I think real, high quality India Ink black is so much superior that there's no comparison. I know they make "India Ink" for fountain pens, but this really isn't new. Artists have been doing this for a hundred years. The problem is that the shellac is left out, and it's the shellac that makes India Ink special.
    But what about inks that I have trouble placing in a color group. I absolutely love Diamine Ancient Copper. I use a full bottle each year. My all-time favorite journaling ink is Montblanc SE James Purdey and Sons Single Malt. This, too, is a scented ink. This blasted stuff cost ninety dollar a bottle, but it's more than worth it. I've never found another ink like it. I spent about six months' worth of my yearly ink budget buying enough bottles to be pretty sure I'll die before I run out. It has been discontinued, but it can still be had, though the places I know that still have a supply are charging from one twenty to one thirty a bottle. I think it's worth it, even at that price. It'[s just a fantastic ink.
    There are other inks I have no idea how to classify, but that I love. It's only a problem when I try to list my favorite colors of ink.

    @bikkies Před 2 lety

    I drift between Saguaro Wine and Cactus Fruit Eel and, even when pushed, I can't quite decide which I prefer. I have more Noodler's inks than I'll ever use in a dozen lifetimes & some of them are a bit too exotic to risk with my more expensive pens. However those are two that I'd have no hesitation inking up. Another vibrant ink, less likely than Noodler's to set fire to your pen's soul & summon forth all the demons from Hades, has to be Iroshizuku Murasaki-Shikibu.

    I love the colour of Baystate Blue, but it's the only ink I have encountered that is completely unusable on Tomoe River because it feathers and bleeds through like crazy.

      Agreed. Baystate Blue is truly beautiful but problematic with regard to feathering; so much so that I am setting it aside. Also, another Noodler’s that is pretty but has issues is Apache Sunset. I love the color, but it takes a remarkably long time to dry. 😕

    And for the next version of the list, can you do one without noodler's ink? I think noodler's ink is over-represented in these list. I do own a lot of noodler's ink but ended up rarely using it because the bullet proof quality actually made it feather and bleed through like crazy in the crappy paper I am forced to deal with at work... (mainly company printed forms and generic cheap copy paper)
    Or alternatively if you still want to include noodler's, then make it so you give 3 choices for each category.
    Also, noodler's red black and nightshade is very similar colour in my eye (I have both) unless I compare it side by side...
