    I could watch these videos for hours, Phil! Thanks for gifting us with your vast knowledge of the intricacies and subtleties of these astounding tannages! Not to mention that your designs and workmanship are perhaps the most refined and tasteful I’ve seen. Glad we’ve been in touch more recently! - David

      @@AshlandLeather Thanks! so essentially both leathers can be conditioned using the same products as long as if it’s good for one it’s good for the other?

    • @AshlandLeather
      @AshlandLeather  Před 2 lety +1

      @@apilkey More or less, yes! If you are looking to increase the luster then products with a good amount of wax like Saphir Cordovan Cream or Venetian Shoe Cream will fill in scuffs and scratches and create a bright luster on both shell cordovan or CXL (or other leathers). If you are looking to condition the leather I like Tanner's Blend for both Shell Cordovan and CXL. A leather conditioner will nourish the fibers and create a more rich feel. Some conditioners will darken the leather a lot so I don't recommend conditioning unless the leather is dried out or if it has been washed with soap.

I just purchased a pair of AE Hampton Mill Chili boots and they are “ German Leather “ and I cannot find care instructions ie types of conditioner and polishes ? Thanx for the great info !

    im looking to get into leather shoes, and ive been wondering if its worth getting 1 cordovan shoe, over a cxl + deer suede. the thing thats pulling me away from getting the 1 cordovan shoe, is just having that single pair, and not having 2 pairs for different occasions. im looking to get a solid winter shoe (cxl) and the deer suede for more casual wear. but if the cordovan shoe can function as both, id pick that. what should i do?

      I don't feel comfortable wearing my shell cordovan shoes/boots in the winter so I suggest the CXL and suede pairs

    Hello, this is an educational video but I would love to have your expert opinion. I'm considering the purchase of Crown Northampton sneakers. Most CZcams videos laud the Horween Cordovan leather but I'm not yet sold. It seems to me the cordovan leather works best in dress shoes, not sneakers. What I seek is a leather that is very soft and supple, the closest to canvas for that comfortable sneaker feel. Which leather would you recommend out of the Crown Northampton line-up? Perhaps too, you would choose the cordovan leather for your own sneakers. Why or why not? Thank you.

    • @AshlandLeather
      @AshlandLeather  Před rokem +1

      I'm not familiar with Crown Northhampton's line other than seeing them online and they look nice. Personally I have some Chromexcel leather sneakers that I love and I would anticipate that shell cordovan would also be very comfortable. If you are looking for the softest temper possible I would just contact them directly to see what they can make. I do not like cordovan is too firm for a sneaker

      @@AshlandLeather First off, thank you for your lightening fast reply! Your opinion affirms my suspicion that cordovan is not soft enough for a sneaker. If you perchance took a look at their leathers and would come to an opinion, that would be helpful too. In the meantime, I will write to Crown Northampton directly. Stay awesome !!!!

      Shell cordovan isn't the whole hide. It's from a section of the rear end. More cows than horses
