Got our solar panels and 2 Powerwalls in May 2023 and we are very pleased as to how they perform. We also love the charge on solar function for our Model Y. It will take several years to break even with our electric and gasoline bills but we like the independence we have from rate hikes.
I did basically the same. Got my 11.34kw of solar and 2 powerwalls in 2020. They kept us going during the Texas winter blackout in 2021. Now I have a Model 3 and my wife has a Model Y that we charge for free at night with our electric plan. We have not paid for electricity since install and now we don't need to buy gas for cars. ROI is 4 years because of the savings.

Obviously factoring in things like whether the person has an electric car, how much energy they generally use and how long the amount of energy stored by these "wall storage" devices last based on average usage compared to a standard generator? Also are you talking about a petrol/gasoline generator, or a different one? Personally, I do not care about a single one of these factors as I don't believe I will ever have enough money to worry about whether I can save energy, but it would certainly strenghten your argument to provide some facts and figures regarding this information rather than posting pointless and inane comments that nobody will pay any attention to. I urge you simply to provide citable sources for any information you provide as many of the Tesla products seem excellent at face value, and while I certainly am aware of the downsides to owning a Telsa, there seems to be a lot of up-sides as well. It doesn't cover 100% of our energy usage, but nearly 85% and now we have two EV, zero gas cars as of September last year.

Where I used to live, I couldn’t charge at home. I still bought a Tesla anyways and used the nearby Superchargers instead. Now we have four EV’s, one for each family member. Charging at home or at work is far more convenient, but if you’re near supercharging locations, it’s still definitely doable. 👍🏼

Installed a 12kw solar panel system on our primary home in AZ back in 2016 (from Solar City which became Tesla). It paid for itself in Q4 of 2022 (over a year ago) still have 23 years of a full warranty (until 2046) on the solar panel system and inverters. Generates 85-90kw/day in summer (half that in winter). Figure that during those next 23 years it should save us about $70k in electricity (at current rates). Powers a 4k sq ft home where it can get to 115 degrees out in summer but keep it at 72 degrees indoors year-round. Also powers a 2023 Tesla Model Y LR (74kw battery for 330 miles of range, 7-seater). Planning to add another 12kw system on guest wing later this year with battery storage (possibly for a VPP) mainly for an eventual cybertruck and for some backyard development. In AZ (the real sunshine state), solar is the way to go.
The real question is when will we get vehicle to home (v2h) capabilities? We should be able to use the vehicle battery to supplement the powerwall battery during outages. One car is like 5 powerwalls.
@@suvari225 the cybertruck has that now but it's still really early. It can output 11.5 kw into their powerwall which is more than enough for a typical home during blackouts. So when they activate that will it be backward compatible, will it only work with newer vehicles since it needs to flow in two directions, or will they offer it as a dealer upgrade? They really need to release more details of their plan. I hope it can just be a software update and you have to install the home charger directly to the powerwall in order for them to communicate. I'd buy that powerwall right after the announcement. They need to rebrand their products as a Tesla Home bundle not just separate products.
1st in Snohomish County WA with the Powerwall 3. What an odyssey to the say the least. Public Utility wanted to have the transformer upgraded before I powered on for the first time. They installed a bad transformer, the whole neighborhood (except us) had burning electrical panels, etc. The Backup Gateway 2 really saved our bacon because it was monitoring the power when it came back on and saw that it was grossly out of spec...keeping our home safe.
Yep! We are really enjoying our solar system with the power wall - it is currently 8:41pm and the power wall is still powering our home from the solar charge it got today - every day this automagically discharging is saving us $ - not to mention the charge on solar for our splendid Model Y - life is good being a Tesla customer & I can’t help but like that all of these products are “Made by Humans - on Earth” - love it

My utilities bill has only increased since… personally I think this is less on Tesla and more on the back door deals they had to make with PG&E to stay within California… Biggest purchase regret I’ve ever made… Their model Y is amazing tho, we love it.

I’ve been living with the more affordable version of this (off-brand but still quality energy storage, self-installed solar PV) and cannot preach enough how much better of an experience it is - more affordable, reliable, democratic. Best of all - I hardly have to deal with utility shenanigans.
Only if the solar roof wasn’t so gawd dang expensive. We got a quote for one and it was 200k. We contacted the installer two years later (last year) and it went up to 250k
When Ford (and all the others) announced they were adopting the NACS, they aren’t able to update the ports for about 2 years or more. Now that FSD is proving itself, they need to jump in as soon as possible so they can begin the long, difficult process of updating their vehicles for the FSD hardware. 3-4 years to get that done? Ford will be first again but just like Volvo’s seat belts, Tesla’s FSD will become a standard feature in all cars eventually. In the meantime, vehicles that have it will have massive sales appeal compared to those that don’t. Anybody who thinks their 4-5 year old Tesla’s have dropped in value too much should brace themselves for an uptick here too. Bravo Tesla. Now you just need to come up with some various pricing models/levels.
Yes, it’s absolutely necessary to become free with autonomously produced energy and intelligent local grids with neighborhood. We now are in slave systems from big oil and think charger like gas stations are the answer but only Tesla got it to make corridors for Tesla and EV drivers that are strategically located with no reason to place them at existing places. Then most should have the home and destination charge strategy and 90% do not drive 500 km or over 300 miles per day.
I want my M Y to act as my Powerwall. No sense spending another $8K or whatever on a Powerwall when I already bought 5 or 6 of them when I bought the car. Also…the M Y is great. Can’t wait to get another one.
My biggest disappointment is the failure of the launch/ramp of the solar roofs. If only they could have partnered with a Leeds home builder. If they can ever make the cost obtainable, it’s a true game changer. ❤
