I get so weirded out when I realise that babies born in 2000 are now, or soon to be, 17 D: I remember NYE 1999 so well, and all the unwarranted fears of the Y2K bug that would ruin all the computers :P I was 9.

I don't remember myself at 9. I mainly remember today, a bit of yesterday, and my future goals. Maybe it's time for me to slow down and remember my childhood.
25 years from now is difficult to picture. Hopefully I will be content with life and my journey. Also, have a better understanding of my story.

I laughed so hard at the Madonna comment! There's a festival in my hometown where a band comes round to peoples houses and plays any song you request from them. Little 7 year old me had NO IDEA about music, but probably heard on the TV that Madonna was just a really cool singer. And damn sure I wasn't going to request a kids tv intro song this year - no, I was going to wish for a Grown-Up song. So I persuaded every one of my friends to tell the band to play Madonna for me. The band could have played any song - I wouldn't have noticed. But I felt so cool.
I'm considering writing a letter to myself before I go off to uni and opening it after I finish. See if I've delivered on my current ambitions

at the beginning and at the end of every year i write a letter for my future self and advice and things I've learned. It's so fun to look back on the years!
That was so adorable! 😋 I think it's pretty typical for kids to be focused on home and family, since that's what we experience so much of and feel most comfortable in at that age :)
I write these types of things every year, for two years in the future. For example on my 20th birthday I wrote one to read on my 22nd, and so on. I love it.

I wrote a letter to my 18 year-old self when I was 11. I left it untouched for seven years and then opened it on my 18th birthday. It was so weird. I was about to start at my secondary school when I wrote it and was in my final year there when I read it. It's such a cool thing to do, and if I ever have kids I want to encourage them to do the same. I also wrote a letter from my 18 year-old self to my 25 year-old self, so I have that to look forward to in four years!

This was so cute! I used to writ letters to myself every year to open the following year. I'd write everything that happened in those 12 months and I loved opening them and just looking back. Even if it was just a year. So many things happen that you don't remember after a few months. What was relevant then doesn't mean is gonna matter in a year! This video reminded me that I need to get back to writing these!!
This is lovely. I wrote a letter to myself just three years in the future once but it was to say that my boyfriend-at-the-time and I had jokingly picked a day in the future to get married and I wrote an email to arrive on that day. I totally forgot about it until it arrived a week before our wedding! Needless to say I SOBBED.

I'm 23 and still picture older me slinking around my fully-furnished house with a fluffy white rug, wearing silk negligees and drinking prosecco out of a champagne flute after my day of swimming and cooking a nice dinner for later. So I'm probably no more realistic than a 9 year old....
My 16 year old self wrote to my 26 year old self as a high school assignment and I cried reading it. I said I wanted to be happy, which is a common theme in things I've written since I was small. I said I was fighting a lot with my mom, and I remember how she was up and down a lot trying to get the right mental health prescriptions and dosages and now she's come so far but when I was 26 she had just had a spiral and was suicidal after being declared clean of cancer (The cancer's returned now). Both my parents worked when I was 16, but between then and when I was 26 they lost their jobs, they filed for bankruptcy, the house was foreclosed on, they lived in Florida for 7 years, my dad had brain surgery, my mom got cancer, I started dating my now husband, moved in with him, got engaged, and I got married later that year.
I would say... have fun and be happy and do what you believe in/think is right.

I think when I started high school, I went on a camp where we apparently wrote a letter to our future selves. We open & read it when we matriculate (graduate), specifically when we have our valedictory breakfast. I have no memory whatsoever of writing it and can't wait to see how my mind worked before high school changed me.

I had an awesome book I got given when I did Brownie's that had a sleeve in the back to leave yourself a letter for ten years in the future, and I think I wrote a different one everytime my choice in the boy I liked changed, and then opened them all about one year later just to check if I still liked the same boy. My childhood was so interesting (y)

I'm 15 and although it wasn't too long ago I would say to my 9 year old self.'Don't grow up too quick because it changes your views. And be proud of yourself for all of your achievements when you can because you lose you happiness and pride when you reach high school.'
This would be such a surreal sort of thing to read.... I had a similar thing when I got a letter from myself as a kid when I graduated High School.
In 8th grade we wrote letters to our 18 year old selves and we get them when we're seniors (the school holds onto them) and I'm a sophomore but omg it's gonna be awesome!!!

I would tell my 9 year old self that you don't have to please people all the time and that getting in 'trouble' isn't necessarily a 'bad' thing, that 'bad' people do!

Hannah, as soon as you showed the 'letter', I gasped because I had the same pink fluffy diary that pull out page came from! Only I didn't fill my page out, I just took it out my diary and screwed it up because I didn't have any dreams or friends to tell future me about.
Omg I 100% remember doing that exact page! I wonder if my parents will ever find it!

Oh this is so cute! I'm such a fan of writing yourself letters, I'm pretty sure the first one I did was when I was 10 and it's to me when I'm 82! Haha I've still got it, and a few I'm written since then that I've got for when I'm 25, 32 and two to open this year actually, I haven't ever opened one just made about 6!
I'd tell my nine year old self to start writing out all his little adventures and travels because between then and when he actually starts there will be an awful lot of good stuff that will go unrecorded and get forgotten.
I actually do have a letter I wrote to my future self a few years ago, not to be opened before August 1st 2034, which will make a very interesting read one day.
