Abstract - Dental education is a challenging course that requires both theoretical and practical skills. This field is a combination of traditional learning and problem-based learning (PBL) as well as simulated clinical skills training. With this kind of learning, one of the biggest obstacles our curriculum faced when the COVID-19 Pandemic transpired was the shifting from face-to-face learning to digital learning.
Whilst the consequence of the previous online learning efficiency remains a concern, especially for subjects that require the dexterity of the hand and patient management. It is undeniable that the sudden transition to distance education and the absence of practical training and face-to-face guidance during the previous semesters could leave students deprived of their self-confidence in executing certain dental procedures. It has been shown in several studies that dental students are usually confident in performing procedures safely; however, they felt unprepared and still required supervision. This could have been due to the amount of practice they had in the previous semesters. Because this course mainly necessitates close contact with human beings in which social distance cannot be always maintained, we cannot deny the fact that no virtual sessions can duplicate the close experience of learning in an on-campus laboratory especially for simulated clinical skills-in which we had been missing in the past semesters.
