Excellent video again, Alex. I must admit I've started using partridge - and pheasant tail feathers - for tails on my nymphs more and more as I think that grayling in particular seem to 'hold on' to them better in colder water or difficult conditions . I only use softer fibred tails for winter grayling fishing now as I have a lot more confidence in them when it's very cold especially (which is half the battle really!). They are a lot less durable, I admit, but do seem to make a difference when it's tough. I want to experiment a bit more with Brahma hen feathers as they may be a good compromise. Many thanks.

Thanks Carl. I do enjoy tying with Partridge for tails. I can't say I have noticed the same with grayling but I do predominantly use tags and bug style flies rather than longer tailed nymphs so that might be why. Will definitely pay attention to this in future seasons though. The Brahma hen feathers would definitely be a good option, still less durable particularly for toothy fish like trout but they are marked beautifully.

@@AlexJardineFlyFishing thanks. I'm sure it is down to confidence, mostly, and thinking about it, I tend to use tags as point flies and unweighted pheasant tail and hare's ear nymphs fairly close to the weighted point fly with the softer tails so they can have maximum movement and 'softness'.
