I am 'stuck' in exactly that spot, needing my mare to maintain the roundness. I squeeze the rein, she drops down, but pops back up way too soon, especially in downward and upward transitions. This is helpful
When his poll goes up and his nose out he gets a lot heavier on his frint end, when he stays rounded up he looks really nice, I think he's going to do well!

I have a question! Does the bit affect how well he understands what you are asking? I mean, would it be harder to teach this in an o ring or sweet six? Or is it the purchase and the shank that help communicate that you are asking to bend at the poll? I hope that makes sense. I understand leverage bits and how they work but, I would use the purchase of that bit to help me lift the shoulders and also stiffen an over bendy horse. How do you get them collecting, without dumping onto their front? Do I just keep lifting the ribs with my legs? I hope this is making sense! I just need to come do a mini clinic so I can ask you my 5 million questions in person. 😅
Yes, the bit does effect how well the horse understands. There are 7 pressure points, corners of mouth, tongue, bars, nose, chin, roof of mouth, and poll. You are correct in that the purchase will lift the shoulders and straighten an over bendy horse, I use that exact thing too. To get collection you also need to add a good bit of leg to lift the back and engage the hind end. Collection comes from the ribs and hips. I've done a couple videos where I am pushing the hips in like to lope off, this exercise strengthens the muscles used for collection. I hope that answered your question?

I don’t know why you rode off center on purpose BUT I’m going to take a wild guess. So my coach said that a horse will try to catch a poorly balanced rider in the corners hence he will try to scoot under the rider, to the side that the rider is hanging out on, to try to catch you, so to speak. I use to lean into my turns because I also ride a motorcycle…It was a challenge for me to fight my body in the turns. You did it on purpose to unbalance him on purpose to actually develop better balance? I’ve never seen or heard tell of a bad lean for a good purpose. I look forward the answer of the riddle:)!
You are on the right track. I was asking for a lope departure and he was leaning into the wrong lead so me riding off center that way pulled him into the correct lead.

We use this in my sport to help them with catching leads and staying upright before the turns too! I was raised western pleasure so, when I switched to barrels, I really struggled, and still do, with not staying dead centered and using my body to help the horse.
We call it riding “soggy” in my group of friends. Lol
