Alex Smith doesn’t get nearly enough credit for the influence and leadership he showed Mahomes. Mahomes seemed to have nothing but praise for Smith. Alex Smith is the man.

Mahomes started out breaking Dan Marino's records, and now just six years later he's toppling some of Tom Brady's. Andy Reid is getting close to Don Shula and Bill Belichick. Travis Kelce is eying Tony Gonzalez and Jerry Rice. Steve Spagnuolo, Dave Merritt, and the front office have gradually put together a monster defense. Life is good for Chiefs fans.

As a Broncos fan who hates the Chiefs, I got to admit, it's impressive what Andy Reid has done with that franchise. I feel like with their current dynasty status, It's easy to forget that they were snake bitten for 40 years. I remember them catching me by surprise when they started out 9-0 in 2013. Because here we had a team that was 2-14 the year prior. But then I remember their cracks started showing after their bye. I believe we handed them their first loss that year and then beat them in KC a couple of week after. I believe they lost 5 of 7 including twice to my Broncos and the Chargers as well. In their 5 years under Alex Smith, they were good enough for a playoff spot and a division title but never great enough to be a super bowl contender. But under Mahomes, they're a perennial Super Bowl contender. Even when they don't look great during the regular season kind of like last year. I hate the Chiefs, hut I've accepted that I'm just going to have to dral with them and losing to them every year.

@@patrickcochrun6828 I suppose. But I don't believe Elway and the Broncos had a long winning streak against the Chiefs like Mahomes and the Chiefs had with the Broncos. I think Elway always had his way with KC at home only losing two home games to them. Now, I wasn't alive for the Elway era, so maybe I have some research to do, but I wish I was though. I can only imagine what it was like for Broncos fans after winning Super Bowl 32. I know we were 7-1 against KC in the Peyton Manning era. It's still crazy that Mahomes hadn't lost a road game in the division until they lost in Denver last year.

He didn't have the win streak but he was so clutch and I lost count of how many times we should have won the game against the broncos only to watch Elway perform his magic and bury us. To me I relish the current Villain status we have amongst NFL fans because never in my life did I think this organization would ever win 1 super bowl let alone 3 with a chance to go 3 peat. Granted we have had a huge influx of bandwagon fans in recent years, but most of my life there wasn't a more tortured fan base than that of the Chiefs with the exception of maybe the Lions and Browns.
@@patrickcochrun6828Oh for sure. That's how I've felt with Mahomes and the Chiefs during our 16 game losing streak to them. There were times I felt we should've beatem them only for Mahomes to pull his magic. NGL, it was really nice finally getting a win vs KC last year. That was undoubtedly our SB last year, lol. Mahomes is still our daddy though, because we're still 1-12 against him and 1-16 vs KC in the last 17 meetings.
What's crazy is Mahomes worst is an overtime loss in the AFC championship. Both those losses could have gone the Chiefs way if one play goes their way that didn't.

Chiefs special team will stand out as either the best, the most entertaining, or both.

We will see one or more laterals when Reese-Zammit is on the field.
We'll have an extra tackler on kick-offs because our starting safety will be kicking off.
If Xavier Worthy does any return duty, we could see the return of the crossed arm x-factor sign Dante Hall used to flash.
I think there will be at least a couple of games this season when the Chiefs win purely because superior special teams play.
Dave Toub, the special teams coordinator, is an underrated and under-mentioned factor that has contributed to this teams success year-in and year-out. 2022's special teams notwithstanding, I can't remember a time when the Chiefs have not had an advantage in that phase of the game.
It will be interesting to see how the punt game fares w/o Townsend going forward, but I have faith that we'll be okay as long as Coach Toub is at the helm.

LB Willie Gay’s replacement
RB depth
I'm not worried in the least about losing Gay, tbh. Tranquill has shown to be a more than competent and versatile LB, and Chanel seems to be way ahead of schedule in terms of his development. Spagnola didn't seem to favor or quite know how to best use Gay's athleticism anyhow, I was not surprised to see him not re-signed.
As far as LT, between Morris and the rookie, I think the team is confident that one of those will stand out and be the starting LT early in the season. I'm more concerned that this is the last year we'll see the core interior linemen playing together.
And in terms of RB depth, don't be surprised if the Chiefs sign a veteran RB prior to the start of the season, or assign Louis Rees-Zammit as a RB to add depth in that group.

The reason for the Chiefs dynasty actually has more to do with the coaching and front office then it does with Mahomes. Andy Reid is one of the greatest coaches of all time and the front office was able to draft key pieces in the later rounds that have contributed since the beginning of the dynasty (Kelce, Jones, Hill). If the Chiefs had Dak as their QB, they would have won 5 Super Bowls by now instead of 3.
