All of the vault tracks for each re-recorded album were written at the same time as the rest of the album.So Nothing New was written when she was 22 and writing the original Red :)
Nothing New was written for the original Red album when Taylor was 22. It's about her fears of being replaced by a new, younger female musician and being forgotten about by the general public as she gets older. The bridge of the song "I know some day I'm gonna meet her, it's a fever dream, the kind of radiance you only have at 17. She'll know the way and then she'll say she got the map from me" sounds eerily similar to how Olivia Rodrigo came into the public eye recently and lists Taylor as a big inspiration of hers. But thankfully Taylor's anxieties in that song weren't realized, she only went up from there!
What a lovely way to put it. At her very core, she is a songwriter. I also love how versatile she is. In every era she experiments and re-invents her music a lot which I guess is why people do not get tired of her music. There's always something new to look forward to.
Looking forward to your songwriting video. She's known for her bridges. Even Our Song, which she wrote at fourteen, has a killer bridge. Yet nobody's ever asked her where she got the inspiration to write bridges in the first place. if I'm not mistaken, there are but two of her songs that don't have a bridge. And invariably, the story turns during the bridge. Could you comment on that in your video?

You know Derrik, I just love it when you jam to Taylor's songs. Seeing you enjoy a song so much that it makes you wanna bust out your guitar and play along just vibing to it is awesome to see. At times it feels like I'm just at a friends house and just hanging out to enjoy some great tunes, lol. I also enjoy hearing the tone of your voice. It goes nicely with hers. So yeah, I sometimes wonder if you just sit and sing to Taylor on your own time. Or if you get together with some friends and have a little jam sesh for fun. The young woman you heard from in "Nothing New" is Phoebe Bridgers. Her voice is amazing. First time I ever heard from her was the song "Motion Sickness". Check her out man. She's definitely worth a listen to. You definitely would appreciate listening to that sound that makes her stand out from others. She's got 2 albums out: Stranger In The Alps (2017) and her most recent Punisher (2020).
