- Scotland fans after beating England 1-0 in the Euro 2000 qualifier second leg. Unfortunately poor refereeing in both legs and some criminal finishing by Kevin Gallagher at Hampden meant England qualified.
It wasn't all bad though. Who can forget Phil Neville's last minute "tackle" that gifted Romania a last minute penalty and knocked England out?

I watched Craig Brown bottle this. He should have kitchen-sinked it in the final 15 mintes, against a dreadful England side. Instead he played his usual cautious game, knowing a 1-0 Wembley win would, in all liklihood, keep his job safe.

i remember that day so well mixed feelings that night we failed to qualify yet crazy celebrations on the streets clubs pubs and house party s all over the place or at least there was ware im from wonderful memory s from that night!

It's not as though we're obsessed with England and how they do. It's nonsense to suggest we haven't been qualifying for tournaments because we have one eye on England rather than both on competitive matches.
For Euro 2008, we were desperately unlucky not to qualify out of the Group of Death. For the World Cup we were pish and the same can be said about Euro 2012. The group we've landed in for 2014 is doable. I'll be bitterly disappointed if we don't finish second at the very least.

Yes, and this attitude is a big part of the reason that we haven't qualified for a major tournament since 1998. I'd happily get gubbed 10-0 by England in a friendly if it meant we qualified for a WC finals. I'd like to think most Scotland fans share that view.

Belgium and Croatia have some world-class players, they're on a different footballing stratosphere to Scotland....Serbia are no mugs either. I seriously doubt Scotland will qualify.

The Scots seem to think every England fan goes into a tournament thinking they're going to win it but that just isn't true.
England fans go into a tournament thinking they've got a chance of making the semi finals if they play really well but they know that in reality, they'll play badly and lose at the first knock out stage.
Yes, we are shit; we do know that. Our expectations have never been lower. We had high expectations for very good reason in the 80s and 90s reaching semi finals or go out on pens or played well but luck went against us (Maradonna and Ronaldinhos goals for example) We WERE potential cup winners and if you had seen us play at our best and, well, weren't blinded by the inherent Scottish hatred of anything England, you'd admit that. But we all accept we are shit and have been for nigh on 15 years.
