When I adopted my ferrets, I was told they were abused and kept in a cage 24/7. They had cage rage, were under weight, had ear infections, were scared to death of loud noises, and would only eat kibble. After 2 years of giving them love, attention, medical care, they are happy little carpet sharks now, completely free roaming, and love their duk soup and fish oil, but still can't get them to eat raw, though they will eat boiled eggs. I have learned alot from your vids, and it has help with giving them the best life possible.

Absolutely amazing video! It’s sad to hear that many people don’t like to listen to you talk about the reality of kibble. I loved your example of eating plain cereal versus cereal with added whole foods.

The longer I am online the less I care about the pushback it seems. I become even more firm with my points I think. Yes, the horse world is a very very sad place 😞
I took my ferret to a vet and he insisted on cutting him open straight away, mentioned he would have to stay in ER when no one would be there over night … didn’t want to leave my baby alone, went with my gut and he was fine the next day. They were like is that the same ferret.. wow. Definitely agree with not believing everything you hear from professionals
Growing up with a laundry list of different animals, it always made me sad and mad to see how poorly my family would try to correct animals, being too harsh and rough with them. As an adult, I try my best to be gentle, kind and patient with them. Thank you for another great video, your channel is definitely my favorite one and it's wonderful to see you going after all these years.

Our first ferret who we got in 2014, Dobby, was very impulsive. 😳 Luckily, I also love research, so I dove straight into research mode pretty quickly.
Originally, I figured they were cage animals; but within the first month, my husband kept suggesting we let him out to free-roam. He absolutely loved it, and although I was able to find a few articles and information about them free roaming, there were not many. It’s amazing how much ferret care has improved and changed since 2014; it seems much more common for people to free roam them, which is amazing!
The original person who first spoke about dominance theory/pack theory, actually has spoken up and said he was incorrect… yet people really haven’t caught on.
And one of the big things I think harms pets is the unwillingness of people to change when pet care changes. So many people who start with pets gain knowledge in the beginning, and aren’t willing to evolve as the information changes. As a whole, humans are constantly learning better ways to care for our pets, but there are definitely people who get stuck on their old ways.
For example, in the past, parrot owners almost always clipped wings.. yet nowadays, humans have learned the mental and physical impact it has on these birds, and there are so many people who actually free fly them now. With ferrets, there was a time that a lot of people fed them fruits, veggies, peanut butter, etc; yet now we really understand they are carnivores and should not have those items. But again, there are a lot of people who refuse to evolve.
This is so true!! The refusal to evolve. I’ve seen it in many pet communities. I definitely believe in “old wives tales” and ancient remedies of food & medicine but we have to remain open!!!
Great video! Always reminding me of how I can do better as a ferret mama. In all honesty, my first ferret was also an impulsive choice (with some research but not as much as I should have had!) and I think I still judge myself so harshly on making that big leap without having as much knowledge as I should have had before jumping right in - you and your channel along with a few others in the ferret community really helped me think about the best decisions to make for my fur babies 💕

I would very much like to know how you learned to scale ferret teeth. Not saying I would attempt it myself, but where do you learn to do that and without anesthesia to keep them calm? That seems like quite the task. Lol
Its not too difficult, usually there’s only a small “cap” of plaque on the teeth that will come off with a single gentle stroke. I wouldn’t go in if it was severe calculus or anything like that. Since it’s so quick no anesthesia is needed you just have to be gentle and precise. My ferrets have learned to be calm while I’m working on something with them (nails, brushing etc) so they typically are well behaved !
The biggest mistake is taking on too much. We have entirely too many animals but it has been worth it. I am blessed enough to be a homemaker so I have the time to care for everyone but it is a full time job. You can’t come to my home and not be covered in hair when you leave 😂.
This is true!! I do that too! It’s hard not to.
How do you feel about the ferret vaccines? I am one of those who got a little upset with the vet.. I took my ferret in for heliobacter infection and she had covid, I believe we received her with these issues, but she was very sick nonetheless so I took her to the vet. The vet insisted she have a vaccine that day when she didn't even know why my ferret was ill. That damn vaccine almost killed my ferret. For 3 days I thought we were going to lose her I would not leave her side she never even got out of her crate when we brought her home from the vet. She stayed inside that crate for 3 days and barely crawled out to use the bathroom. I don't know why the vaccine couldn't have waited till after we got the test results and treated her for her illnesses. I don't know why you would recommend giving a sick ferret a vaccine that could possibly harm her as well. It was of course her first ever rabies vaccination. I'm just curious how you feel about the vaccines and if this was a normal appropriate route of treatment for her. I had taken her to other vets previously, I adopted her during the pandemic so finding a regular vet was hard at the time, but none that ever said anything about giving her the vaccine. I thought it was odd that this vet absolutely insisted it be done when she was already so very sick.
Vaccinating sick animals is an absolute NO!!! Very very big mistake. I’m happy your little one is okay. I’ve heard the same tale many times over…some vets really don’t know much about ferrets and just follow standard protocol without considering anything else - though they are generally taught not to vaccinate sick pets. I’m really sorry you had to go through that. You’re not alone.
@@Pazuandfriends thank you for answering. She is okay and she is a thriving happy little ferret. It certainly was a struggle though to see her go through that when she was already so sick. She's a little trooper and I'm glad she pulled through cuz that little ones my whole world! :-)
So weird how people still can figure out that there animal is bored, when ferrets can be so easy to read. Like with my ferrets, I can just put them on my bed and there war dancing because there so excited about the new environment.
